After the Horn

After the Horn Ep. 39 | Are the Nuggets Slipping? Avs Push, Broncos Free Agency Strategy & Sean Payton’s Gamble

Episode Summary

The Nuggets are running out of runway. The Avalanche are positioning for another deep run. And the Broncos are entering a defining offseason. Woody Paige, Ron Zappolo, and Tom Green tackle the urgency surrounding Denver’s biggest teams — plus what Davis Webb calling plays really means for Sean Payton and the future of the Broncos.

Episode Notes

The Nuggets have 20 games left — and the conversation isn’t about seeding anymore, it’s about identity. Are they playing hard enough? Is Nikola Jokic being overworked, underprotected, or both? The crew debates the coaching staff’s adjustments, the non-Jokic minutes problem, and whether Denver is drifting toward the Play-In Tournament instead of contending for another title.

The Avalanche, meanwhile, continue to surge near the top of the NHL standings. But does the Presidents’ Trophy even matter? The guys break down Colorado’s push to finish ahead of Dallas and Minnesota, the flawed NHL playoff format, and whether the Avs should make another aggressive move at the trade deadline. They also discuss Joel Quenneville’s 1,000th career win and the complicated legacy that comes with it.

On the Broncos front, free agency and the draft loom large. Should Denver trade up? Who could be cap casualties worth targeting? And what does Davis Webb taking over play-calling signal about Sean Payton’s willingness to evolve? The conversation shifts into tempo, no-huddle concepts, offensive philosophy, and whether Payton will truly give up control if the offense sputters early.

Plus: George Paton’s contract status, how power is divided inside Dove Valley, and why this offseason could define the Broncos’ next window.

Playoff pressure. Front office politics. Offensive identity shifts. It’s all here on After the Horn.

00;00;02;08 - 00;00;43;09

Tom Green

Time for another edition of After the Horn. And today we're going to have all of our combine measurements. Ron and Woody and I, we did the broad jump. Yeah. The standing whatever. Yeah, jumping and running. And it was terrible. We're also going to talk about the Nuggets and Avs heading into the final stretch here. And hopefully they can finish strong like Shane Lowry.

00;00;43;11 - 00;00;58;29

Ron Zappolo

Hi everybody. Now that we're a war we thought for security reasons we maybe shouldn't do this show, but Tom and Woody and I had a heated discussion last night for, like, 90 minutes and under some threats with some security detail. Here we are.

00;00;59;00 - 00;01;00;11

Tom Green

Here we are. We're back again.

00;01;00;17 - 00;01;07;00

Woody Paige

Well, and I was here last week watching the me ballroom going over there. We get a shot of the new ballroom.

00;01;07;00 - 00;01;08;21

Tom Green

Guerrilla sports ballroom is, you know.

00;01;08;28 - 00;01;10;19

Ron Zappolo

Not to get off on a tangent, but I.

00;01;10;19 - 00;01;11;07

Woody Paige

Was. You will.

00;01;11;07 - 00;01;12;01

Speaker 4

I will I'm.

00;01;12;01 - 00;01;30;16

Ron Zappolo

Watching him yesterday and he's up there talking about the strategy and why we're doing this. And just out of the blue he says, you see these curtains over here? Drapes? I picked these drapes out in the first term. Look at these drapes. And if you like these drapes, where do you see the bomb? And I thought, we're just going to war with Iran.

00;01;30;22 - 00;01;35;19

Ron Zappolo

We're talking about rapes and a ballroom. Oh, my God.

00;01;35;19 - 00;01;43;07

Woody Paige

Just. But I just duplicated that because we should be talking here about the nuggets. Annapolis. Yes, I'm talking about the new ballroom.

00;01;43;10 - 00;01;44;05

Speaker 4

And it's coming.

00;01;44;05 - 00;01;45;12

Ron Zappolo

Along. It's going to be beautiful.

00;01;45;12 - 00;01;46;15

Tom Green

Let's let's do the nuggets.

00;01;46;15 - 00;01;47;13

Ron Zappolo

Let's go to the nuggets.

00;01;47;16 - 00;01;51;04

Woody Paige

Football. Can we welcome a new sponsor that.

00;01;51;08 - 00;01;51;25

Ron Zappolo

Oh yeah.

00;01;51;26 - 00;02;11;08

Tom Green

So we're really excited because our friends at Redbird Farms have become a part of our show. And you know, it's interesting. Obviously they run everything by the queen of chicken, Terry Lombardi. But she must have said okay, because they now are helping to sponsor our show. And we really appreciate, their participation and, the opportunity to have them on the show.

00;02;11;08 - 00;02;19;19

Woody Paige

And I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I'm a big fan of the Louisville Redbirds, who are farm team.

00;02;19;22 - 00;02;20;22

Speaker 4

For the.

00;02;20;25 - 00;02;21;21

Woody Paige

Saint Louis Cardinals.

00;02;21;27 - 00;02;22;10

Ron Zappolo

That did.

00;02;22;10 - 00;02;24;04

Tom Green

It, that that came up.

00;02;24;06 - 00;02;25;07

Woody Paige

To go to Red farm.

00;02;25;10 - 00;02;30;07

Tom Green

Redbird Farms. Want to check them out? Well, we'll set that up. I'm sure we can do it. You got.

00;02;30;07 - 00;02;31;13

Speaker 5

To do. We also imagine.

00;02;31;14 - 00;02;40;20

Woody Paige

That, rod goes all over the world politically, but now he's got a deal with Skechers. Man, those are. Well, I'm.

00;02;40;20 - 00;02;51;03

Ron Zappolo

Glad you like him. I'll see if I can get you a pair of Skechers. I absolutely love the shoes. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. And if there's any Skechers people out there, I will.

00;02;51;04 - 00;02;53;22

Tom Green

Somewhere to go. Hey, you're coming for my job.

00;02;53;22 - 00;02;55;15

Ron Zappolo

The three of us would love,

00;02;55;18 - 00;02;56;23

Woody Paige

Redbird, I swear.

00;02;56;26 - 00;03;03;05

Ron Zappolo

I like those those are all birds, which I have about three pair of those. And I like Allbirds a lot.

00;03;03;12 - 00;03;04;23

Tom Green

I don't I don't know who made these.

00;03;04;28 - 00;03;08;21

Ron Zappolo

Well, I don't know who made them, but they should send them back.

00;03;08;24 - 00;03;14;00

Tom Green

I'm not. I'm not the fashion guy that Ron's always out dressed me. No. Buy a.

00;03;14;03 - 00;03;14;16

Woody Paige

Clue.

00;03;14;23 - 00;03;16;23

Speaker 4

Okay, so,

00;03;16;25 - 00;03;32;09

Tom Green

So the Denver Nuggets have 20 games left, and this is an important, you know, stretch for them. They have the next six games. They're all against tough teams. Most of the rest of the schedule. They're going to see teams floating in and around the playoff picture. But they have the Lakers and the Knicks back to back at home.

00;03;32;16 - 00;03;53;08

Tom Green

They got Oklahoma City again. If Houston coming up another game of the Lakers I mean it's it's a tough schedule. And right now the nuggets look anything but tough. They look like a team that is really trying to find identity in the latter part of a season that they're still thought of as one of the best teams in the league, but certainly are playing like it.

00;03;53;11 - 00;04;24;22

Woody Paige

Have been begging all year long for them to play on us and the Joker together. And they started them together last night and I went, well, maybe that wasn't such a good idea that I had, you know, occasionally you, you go in different directions, but I thought they're they're trying every little thing they possibly can. But I told you guys 2 or 3 weeks ago that they needed a learned hand.

00;04;24;25 - 00;04;37;01

Woody Paige

I think that was the name of a judge or Supreme Court judge may have been. But I said to you, they need a really experienced assistant coach. I don't like the coaching staff at.

00;04;37;01 - 00;04;39;03

Tom Green

All, including the head coach.

00;04;39;06 - 00;05;02;02

Woody Paige

Including the head coach. They look like they're over there trying to figure out something I look at. So five of the coaches and I think they have paid to have those good seats in the second row because they're not doing anything. I just am not impressed with. They're not going to this is not going to be a situation where you get rid of a coach and yeah, like you did.

00;05;02;06 - 00;05;03;01

Ron Zappolo

Although.

00;05;03;01 - 00;05;11;06

Tom Green

Although I was going to say because of what's happening with this team, this is an ownership group that did sack a coach with four games left.

00;05;11;09 - 00;05;35;26

Woody Paige

They're not going to do that. And I'm sure the players would revolt to it to an extent as it can, but no, but the coaching staff is not doing a good job. They're out there experimenting now. We know the injury problems all year and I heard that again last night. Oh well the jazz are missing it guys. And they and I know of course the nuggets have their problem.

00;05;35;29 - 00;05;38;13

Woody Paige

Isn't everybody back except one guy.

00;05;38;14 - 00;05;39;28

Tom Green

Well Gordon and Watson or both Payton.

00;05;39;28 - 00;05;45;04

Ron Zappolo

Watson and Gordon. Here's the problem okay. They're playing a team last night. That's tanking.

00;05;45;06 - 00;05;45;26

Woody Paige

Trying.

00;05;45;28 - 00;06;04;08

Ron Zappolo

Trying to lose their one of the four teams trying to lose the nuggets nearly gave them the game. As we sit here right now the nuggets are in the fifth spot. They are two games in the loss column ahead of the Phoenix Suns, who are in the seventh spot.

00;06;04;08 - 00;06;05;26

Woody Paige

Who are also trying to think right.

00;06;05;27 - 00;06;30;20

Ron Zappolo

Yeah okay. If the nuggets aren't careful they will fall into the Play-In tournament. That would be a disaster when you consider at the beginning of the season, the nuggets had one of the best rosters in the NBA, and I do believe that the game that sent me South with them was Sunday against Minnesota. They were tied with Minnesota.

00;06;30;20 - 00;06;52;11

Ron Zappolo

They had everything to play for their at home. It's a Sunday afternoon. Jokic plays his ass off in the first quarter. They're up by 11 after one. They take Jokic shout. And by the time he comes back in the game they're behind. And they never got back in the game. That game showed me they're not really serious. The second thing and I do believe this.

00;06;52;13 - 00;07;20;02

Ron Zappolo

There's some years where sometimes and I know everybody's got injuries right. And they shouldn't use injuries as an excuse. But Aaron Gordon is so valuable to this team and more or less he hasn't played all year because of injuries. I think this is one of those years where the they will not be able to overcome their injuries, because I thought they were one of six teams that had a legitimate chance to win the NBA title.

00;07;20;02 - 00;07;22;14

Ron Zappolo

As we sit here today, I don't think that.

00;07;22;14 - 00;07;41;24

Tom Green

And it's hard to see that right now. The the thing with Gordon and Watson is that David Adelman has made it sound like he expects them to return shortly, like in this next very difficult six game stretch. These guys are going to suddenly appear and you know you hamstring guys. We all know hamstring guys. They're always on the edge of another hamstring.

00;07;41;26 - 00;07;51;14

Tom Green

And I don't know if you want to run them into what's going to be some some high speed, high intensity basketball. Unless they're a little over 100 they're not.

00;07;51;17 - 00;08;10;16

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. Even if they come back you can't expect them to be. They haven't played enough. They're going to it's going to take them mobile to ramp up. The second thing. Tom and I saw it Sunday. The nuggets don't play hard enough. I look at the hard playing teams. You give you an example. Oklahoma City plays hard every game.

00;08;10;19 - 00;08;15;09

Ron Zappolo

And even when this last stretch they had where SGA was out, Hartenstein was out.

00;08;15;09 - 00;08;17;02

Tom Green

Homegrown culture is still there.

00;08;17;02 - 00;08;37;28

Ron Zappolo

Culture is still there, and they win games. The Boston Celtics gave away most of their team. Their best player hasn't played a minute. They they played last night without Brown, without their center. They beat Milwaukee with the honest by 25. They play hard every night. The Pistons they had a couple guys suspended in that fight didn't Matt didn't stop them.

00;08;37;28 - 00;08;46;28

Ron Zappolo

They play hard every night. Bickerstaff Minnesota. Can you honestly on either one of you say that the nuggets play hard every night. Yeah.

00;08;47;02 - 00;08;54;24

Woody Paige

But circle it. One thing that we aren't really talking about Jokic is not playing like he did before.

00;08;54;24 - 00;08;56;10

Ron Zappolo

He was he's he's not.

00;08;56;12 - 00;09;18;07

Woody Paige

Did that look like the guy there was playing great MVP type. No no. Last night he almost fouled out. He is not the same player that we've seen. They are defending. Did you see the way the jazz definitive last night. They put him. Yeah. Little guy in front of somebody else behind him. And the nuggets didn't react. That's what I'm talking about.

00;09;18;07 - 00;09;35;10

Woody Paige

The coaching staff. They didn't say hey here's what we need to do. We know this that defense. And it's not going to only happen tonight because the jazz are not any good. They're a team that's trying to tag. And they are stopping. Jokic oh yeah he had what 25. Maybe 14 rebounds.

00;09;35;10 - 00;09;36;29

Ron Zappolo

But your point he's not playing.

00;09;36;29 - 00;09;53;29

Woody Paige

He's not playing well. And he's being defended well. And if you can't figure out another way to that he can it work to his advantage with the assist when you're getting four and five assist when you were a guy that was getting was getting 13. Yeah early.

00;09;54;00 - 00;10;02;20

Ron Zappolo

In. But it is the offense. Woody I don't think there's a team in the NBA that asks a player to do more than the nuggets. Well, I ask of you, I.

00;10;02;20 - 00;10;07;07

Tom Green

Think the the failed assist is a good stat for him to where he does find an open.

00;10;07;07 - 00;10;07;22

Ron Zappolo

Shoot. Yes.

00;10;07;22 - 00;10;33;22

Tom Green

And and they they have failed to deliver on the pass. Here's what I want to talk about. The incident with Lue Dort would have been a linchpin moment in most of those hard playing, tough team years where the team goes, that's it. That's the end of it. Now, Jokic certainly stood up for himself. But at that point what do you do after somebody attacks your best play?

00;10;33;26 - 00;10;47;11

Woody Paige

Well you sacrifice somebody. You send somebody out there and say you're the sacrificial lamb tonight. We're not going to let the best player in the world.

00;10;47;14 - 00;11;10;26

Woody Paige

Have to put up with that. And it happened again last night. They beat him up like he was the, at a birthday party in Mexico City. If you know what I'm talking pinata. And nobody was responding. Nobody was taking care of him. We know in hockey that you have a guy that always took care of.

00;11;10;29 - 00;11;11;20

Ron Zappolo

Wayne Gretzky.

00;11;11;20 - 00;11;12;00

Woody Paige

Wayne.

00;11;12;00 - 00;11;14;04

Tom Green

Gretzky. So Manco is going to come over the ball.

00;11;14;05 - 00;11;15;15

Ron Zappolo

He's going to be better up here.

00;11;15;19 - 00;11;21;25

Woody Paige

You send somebody if it's Bruce Brown or if it's in, you're right, somebody down that bench somewhere.

00;11;21;25 - 00;11;36;29

Tom Green

But do you send somebody or does somebody just do it like is your culture in the locker room such that everyone knows what's going to happen next? If you go after McKinnon or Makar, Josh Manson or Gabe Landeskog going to come to you up immediately.

00;11;37;01 - 00;11;54;27

Woody Paige

Well, who's responsible for that? Okay. The the lead coach is supposedly watching the game. You got eight different assistant coaches. Can't one of them call one of these guys over and say, hey, we need this from do you.

00;11;55;01 - 00;11;56;06

Speaker 4

Know.

00;11;56;08 - 00;12;17;22

Ron Zappolo

Tom's right about that? You shouldn't have to tell them. In other words, if they trip your best player who's coming off a knee injury, best player in the world and they trip him in the open floor, you shouldn't have to tell Bruce Brown or any of those guys. Hey, the next time SGA drives to the basket, knocked the shit out of him because let them know that we.

00;12;17;22 - 00;12;18;17

Tom Green

Don't need to fight for you.

00;12;18;17 - 00;12;24;09

Ron Zappolo

Dawg. You don't have to fight. Just take their best players. But you want to chip our best player waitlist. Yeah.

00;12;24;12 - 00;12;40;21

Woody Paige

But Ron, I'm going to attack your industry more so than mine. Bye. Did we hear anybody on the broadcast bring up what we're just talking about? Scott Hasting played the game. He was on the Detroit Pistons. Yes.

00;12;40;24 - 00;12;42;15

Tom Green

I'm looking at it but yeah.

00;12;42;18 - 00;12;53;23

Ron Zappolo

No, but he's right. And it's it's the sanitized version of the NBA now where nobody thinks that anybody should get hit. And a and if I touch Woody it's a flagrant one.

00;12;53;26 - 00;13;03;04

Tom Green

Well it is with Gasgas a guy who gets every call. I mean if you're going to if you're going to get called for fouling him, I recommend fouling him. Fouling him if he got hit. If you're going.

00;13;03;05 - 00;13;13;18

Ron Zappolo

It's like the old story. When Dave Collins got called for a ticky tech foul, he didn't like it. He knocked the shit out of Mike Nolan, and he turned to the referee and said, now that's a foul.

00;13;13;20 - 00;13;17;20

Tom Green

Well, they're going to see Oklahoma City in a couple of in a week or so. Good evening.

00;13;17;21 - 00;13;24;18

Woody Paige

What you got to get their asses handed to them again. Well because they're not as good there. No, we talked about that the last time that they lost.

00;13;24;18 - 00;13;25;17

Ron Zappolo

They're not as good for this.

00;13;25;18 - 00;13;30;03

Tom Green

They got into overtime in that game. It was a you know a game. Those runs that they did.

00;13;30;07 - 00;13;31;24

Ron Zappolo

With them than they do with Minnesota.

00;13;31;24 - 00;13;43;03

Tom Green

So the non Jokic minutes are interesting because it used to think the non Jokic minutes. They put a guy in for Jokic. But now it's like there's nobody. It's like they're four guys. The Nano get you.

00;13;43;04 - 00;13;49;01

Woody Paige

Know what they got. They they just hired Taris Jones. Yeah. Who was cut by the rockets.

00;13;49;03 - 00;13;51;18

Tom Green

I don't think he's going to be a big no no okay.

00;13;51;20 - 00;13;52;21

Woody Paige

Well I liked him.

00;13;52;26 - 00;13;55;08

Tom Green

So a good player. Yeah. He's. Yeah. Good player.

00;13;55;10 - 00;13;57;01

Ron Zappolo

Find down there in the end of the bench.

00;13;57;01 - 00;14;19;16

Tom Green

So, the avalanche now have a little more momentum. They continue to play at the top of the league. They beat, the Kings. They get Anaheim tonight. They two entering there. They have a few more games than 20 left. But their pursuit, if you will, of a Presidents Cup playoff position, things like that. I think they get the Presidents Cup whether they want it or not.

00;14;19;16 - 00;14;22;01

Tom Green

But the idea is you got to finish ahead of Dallas. In Minnesota.

00;14;22;01 - 00;14;28;18

Woody Paige

We should mention though, people go they started the season before the nuggets. They also just took a month.

00;14;28;21 - 00;14;29;28

Speaker 4

They had a month watched.

00;14;29;28 - 00;14;31;23

Tom Green

The Olympics get settled.

00;14;31;25 - 00;14;48;18

Woody Paige

Yeah. And you wonder if there was going to be problem because they sent eight guys to the Olympics. Yeah. And whether or not they could come back, we got to go back to the goaltending and whether it can be as strong as it was then.

00;14;48;18 - 00;14;49;13

Tom Green

Good.

00;14;49;16 - 00;15;00;22

Woody Paige

And so that's going to be the key in regard to we were talking about the fact they'll win the Presidents Cup, which is like me winning the Cup has me. No.

00;15;00;25 - 00;15;02;09

Tom Green

No, depends on the president.

00;15;02;09 - 00;15;11;05

Woody Paige

Let me go down, rod. That's like being named the FEMA. Award of Winter Cup winner or something.

00;15;11;08 - 00;15;12;19

Speaker 4

Well, well.

00;15;12;22 - 00;15;16;18

Woody Paige

Isn't it the Presidents Cup? Yeah. Well, if they give it to the president, that would.

00;15;16;21 - 00;15;17;17

Speaker 4

Be made up for the.

00;15;17;17 - 00;15;24;10

Woody Paige

Award. If I'm the avalanche, I go with you the year we know what? The Presidents Cup here. Let's take it to the white House. Give it to the politically.

00;15;24;10 - 00;15;25;06

Tom Green

So they are going to.

00;15;25;06 - 00;15;40;18

Ron Zappolo

Say one thing about this game tonight. Yeah. And I think it should be mentioned, the plane in Anaheim. Yeah. Of good friend of mine coaches Anaheim, who just last week won his 1,000th game as a head coach.

00;15;40;18 - 00;15;42;17

Tom Green

Despite being kicked out of the league,

00;15;42;19 - 00;16;09;14

Ron Zappolo

Despite having four years of a suspension that we could argue he is now the second most winningest coach in NHL history, behind Scotty Ball. Joel Quenneville, who played here for the old Colorado Rockies, is a great guy, has always been a great guy. Should have never got, fired here by the Avs. And it's turned out he's now won three Stanley Cups.

00;16;09;21 - 00;16;21;00

Ron Zappolo

He's turned around the Anaheim Mighty Ducks who weren't very good until he got there. He is truly, truly a great NHL head coach. And to think that he had to sit out this well.

00;16;21;02 - 00;16;24;22

Tom Green

That blemish is serious. It it is serious. It's.

00;16;24;22 - 00;16;25;15

Ron Zappolo

A it's a really.

00;16;25;15 - 00;16;26;18

Tom Green

Serious appointment and.

00;16;26;18 - 00;16;34;00

Ron Zappolo

We can get into it place. You know, he was guilty of not taking.

00;16;34;00 - 00;16;34;15

Tom Green

Stepping.

00;16;34;15 - 00;16;48;24

Ron Zappolo

Accusations seriously enough about people in his organization. And he was wrong, I believe. But he was suspended. He paid his price. And that aside, he is a great.

00;16;48;26 - 00;16;50;01

Tom Green

Clearly a great coach.

00;16;50;05 - 00;16;59;14

Ron Zappolo

Clearly to win a thousand games in the NHL when you get fired all the time, that's remarkable to only be behind Scotty Bowman. Yeah that's incredible.

00;16;59;15 - 00;17;08;12

Woody Paige

And we were talking about tough guys. The nuggets are playing the season without a tough guy. That he was a tough guy player.

00;17;08;13 - 00;17;09;05

Ron Zappolo

Yes. Well one of the.

00;17;09;05 - 00;17;10;06

Woody Paige

Nicest people.

00;17;10;11 - 00;17;25;13

Ron Zappolo

He really was one of the nicest guys. And I would see him kind of lost track of them a lot. But I would see him out at restaurants and stuff, you know, and I would think, I don't want to bother him. And he'd come up and give you a hug. And how you doing? I'd say, well, more importantly, how are you doing?

00;17;25;13 - 00;17;35;26

Ron Zappolo

He goes, you know, I get people get fired when you coaching hockey. It's not a big deal. And then he went to Chicago and the run that he had. Yeah was amazing.

00;17;35;28 - 00;17;38;21

Tom Green

Yeah. It he'll be he's.

00;17;38;24 - 00;17;39;27

Ron Zappolo

He's going to be in the Hall of Fame.

00;17;39;27 - 00;17;50;03

Tom Green

It's funny though now because I do one of my favorite things to do and this is not in a, in a sick way is I love to read obituaries because I learn a lot about people that I.

00;17;50;03 - 00;17;51;06

Ron Zappolo

Did, and that's pretty sick.

00;17;51;07 - 00;18;12;18

Tom Green

That I did and didn't like you, the people I didn't know stuff about. But now I think the obituary, which always used to be a glowing review of someone's life, has now turned to where most of them are. They understand the complications of someone's life. So if you're someone like a Donald Rumsfeld, when he died, his obituary was not, hey, you know, he led America's defense of this.

00;18;12;23 - 00;18;27;04

Tom Green

You know, it tells the whole story about some of the miscues, mistakes and even disastrous ones. Joel Quenneville, his life story is very complicated because of what happened in Chicago, both in victory and in scandal. Yeah.

00;18;27;06 - 00;18;46;02

Woody Paige

And you should mention what it was about. So, I mean, it was not, hockey related in the finest way in terms of about issues involving players that were with the squad and how they were being bullied and treated and sexually.

00;18;46;02 - 00;18;47;16

Ron Zappolo

And sexually abused. Yes.

00;18;47;16 - 00;18;51;01

Woody Paige

Yeah. I mean, we should mention that,

00;18;51;03 - 00;19;17;21

Tom Green

Just to circle back past Anaheim just because I want to mention this, their schedule now is tight and tough the rest of the way. And after Anaheim, I think the next couple of games are back to back, Minnesota and Dallas. And so you want to start measuring yourself like how ready are you for the postseason? The avalanche will learn a lot in the next week or so, but also just in this final two games.

00;19;17;28 - 00;19;34;26

Woody Paige

As the two of you, I didn't go that deep. This morning when I was, you know, studying the avalanche of man, just don't give them the same sort of opening round that they had to experience. Yeah. You get somebody that, you know, that they could actually like.

00;19;35;01 - 00;19;38;14

Ron Zappolo

That goes that goes Woody to the NHL and their.

00;19;38;18 - 00;19;39;18

Woody Paige

Stupid.

00;19;39;20 - 00;19;43;11

Ron Zappolo

Thank you way of putting the playoffs together. It makes no sense.

00;19;43;11 - 00;19;51;17

Tom Green

Well, it's clear that like Dallas and Minnesota likely are going to play each other in the first round, and they're two of the best 3 or 4 teams in the league by a lot.

00;19;51;20 - 00;19;52;17

Woody Paige

That makes no sense.

00;19;52;18 - 00;19;52;27

Tom Green

No.

00;19;52;27 - 00;19;55;05

Woody Paige

And it's eating. Just makes.

00;19;55;05 - 00;20;12;01

Tom Green

And it didn't make sense last year and they did nothing about it. And they will not make any sense this year. And will the league actually do something about it? Probably not. I, I would think they'd want to try to figure it out a little bit. The trade deadline, the Avs obviously would be in a buying position.

00;20;12;01 - 00;20;18;19

Tom Green

There's a lot of talk about them. Maybe, making a deal, swinging Nazem Kadri back or a Vincent Trout check back or.

00;20;18;25 - 00;20;20;14

Ron Zappolo

Nazem Kadri doing up there.

00;20;20;14 - 00;20;24;22

Tom Green

I think he's overpaid now. He left here, got paid and hasn't.

00;20;24;24 - 00;20;25;28

Ron Zappolo

You know, hasn't performed.

00;20;25;28 - 00;20;34;03

Tom Green

Well. He hasn't been in the postseason like he was when he was an avalanche player. But yeah obviously well thought of here. And maybe it could be one of those change of scenery guys.

00;20;34;03 - 00;20;45;12

Woody Paige

And speaking of tough guys. Yeah he's a guy in the playoffs that you could say we need you here to make something happen. He will make something happen. He's third way and I.

00;20;45;13 - 00;20;48;16

Ron Zappolo

Too, because not only is he a tough guy, he can play.

00;20;48;22 - 00;21;12;28

Tom Green

Yeah, yeah, he belongs on the ice. Yeah. His problem, I think, is his long term deal is such that he would get really expensive in a couple of years and you're stuck with him. But you know now's Kadri has a lot of equity in this town. A lot of people are fans of his check. You know, those guys, if they don't end up here, are likely to end up in Minnesota or Dallas, and now you're going to have to deal with them.

00;21;13;00 - 00;21;32;15

Woody Paige

Well, they made the defensive trade and now they've got to do go beyond that. Yeah, I mean, they I think it's a case of absolutely both of you being right. They have got to go find somebody that's going to give them a short spark. Spark I don't know whether that makes sense.

00;21;32;20 - 00;21;33;17

Tom Green

But a burst.

00;21;33;21 - 00;21;36;01

Woody Paige

A burst that you you come into the game.

00;21;36;01 - 00;21;39;28

Tom Green

Isn't Jared Stadium is supposed to do that. Yes. It wasn't that. No.

00;21;39;29 - 00;21;41;02

Ron Zappolo

Do we want to go there. Yeah.

00;21;41;03 - 00;21;46;13

Woody Paige

He was supposed to throw that ball into the ground past.

00;21;46;15 - 00;21;49;19

Speaker 4

Yeah. Speaking of. Yeah.

00;21;49;21 - 00;22;00;05

Tom Green

So so with the trade deadline coming, NFL free agency is also about to come our way. The Broncos, obviously being rumored in many directions.

00;22;00;12 - 00;22;02;14

Ron Zappolo

Told the Broncos what to do. Right.

00;22;02;16 - 00;22;03;06

Woody Paige

And now we.

00;22;03;06 - 00;22;04;00

Ron Zappolo

Laid out the book.

00;22;04;00 - 00;22;09;29

Woody Paige

Form. And now I'm reading these people that obviously saw that show and.

00;22;10;01 - 00;22;10;26

Ron Zappolo

They are saying, take.

00;22;10;27 - 00;22;25;24

Woody Paige

You a hall. We'll Hall is going to be we were wrong about him because, not that we were we weren't wrong that the Broncos should go after him, but they're going to the Jets are going to figure out some way. Yeah, they're going to tag him. So he's not going to get out of there. But they're close.

00;22;25;24 - 00;22;28;05

Woody Paige

They're only 3 or $4 million.

00;22;28;08 - 00;22;28;25

Speaker 4

Easy for me.

00;22;28;26 - 00;22;43;25

Woody Paige

Yeah 3 or $4 million a year away from for working it out. I'm, I'm concentrating more on of all people the combine of because they, they've got the what the next to last 30th pick.

00;22;43;25 - 00;22;50;20

Tom Green

Do you did you guys watch the combine? I find myself like you just sit there and you realize, oh my God, I spent 40 minutes watching guys.

00;22;50;20 - 00;22;57;23

Ron Zappolo

Was like, it's kind of like watching curling. You don't plan on watching it, but you sit there and you're just kind of.

00;22;57;25 - 00;22;59;25

Tom Green

0435435.

00;22;59;25 - 00;23;00;12

Woody Paige

Well, I've.

00;23;00;16 - 00;23;02;05

Ron Zappolo

Got this guy who runs great.

00;23;02;08 - 00;23;02;25

Tom Green

Vertical.

00;23;02;25 - 00;23;03;10

Ron Zappolo

Well yeah.

00;23;03;17 - 00;23;06;12

Woody Paige

I figured that out. I don't watch it at.

00;23;06;12 - 00;23;07;23

Speaker 4

All, ever.

00;23;07;26 - 00;23;09;15

Ron Zappolo

I get you, I'm not a big.

00;23;09;21 - 00;23;30;07

Woody Paige

I don't want to go to same elbows fire and have dinner with all those couple and have that, that shrimp dish that, you know, nobody that's ever had it. Once you taste it and you go, man, this is hot. And then you go back again and have the same dish. No. I'm looking at, the overall picture, if you will.

00;23;30;07 - 00;23;31;07

Tom Green

Right. Yes.

00;23;31;10 - 00;23;37;03

Woody Paige

And there's a guy that I voted third for the Heisman Trophy that I want them to pick. I want you to think about that.

00;23;37;05 - 00;23;39;26

Ron Zappolo

Should the Bronco should the Broncos.

00;23;39;28 - 00;23;41;14

Woody Paige

Rodriguez out of Texas.

00;23;41;16 - 00;23;42;10

Tom Green

Should or should they.

00;23;42;17 - 00;23;44;29

Ron Zappolo

Should they trade up in the first round?

00;23;45;02 - 00;23;45;12

Woody Paige

No.

00;23;45;20 - 00;24;05;17

Tom Green

So no, I that's why I'm in. Because free agency will change the draft for the Broncos, especially if you're picking 30th and then your appetite for moving up or down change everybody's, you know, appetite for making a deal with the Broncos or or what they're going to do. But so you go through free agency. We saw the Chiefs do some restructuring.

00;24;05;17 - 00;24;09;14

Tom Green

The Chiefs suddenly have a lot of room. They're drafting I think 10th they're drafting.

00;24;09;16 - 00;24;14;04

Ron Zappolo

Oh they gotta pay like 1 million to Tyreek Hill too because that's going to happen.

00;24;14;07 - 00;24;34;07

Tom Green

Well that's the thing. You know you start looking at. It's not just about you moving on the chess board. Everyone's got their hands on all the pieces. And so if you're the Broncos the free agency first internally like where are you with you know Alex Singleton or is he going to be your inside linebacker. And then if you do that, is Jacob Rodriguez a guy you want to draft.

00;24;34;07 - 00;24;40;17

Tom Green

And then the all the external, pickups. It's I think it's it's not a mess.

00;24;40;17 - 00;25;00;17

Ron Zappolo

I think there's going to be a team. I think there's going to be guys cut for salary cap reasons that will be out there that the Broncos should and will pounce on. I'll give you one. Just offhand, I think, John Harbaugh will cut Bobby Okereke a and I think he's exactly with the Broncos good linebacker. He's a good linebacker.

00;25;00;23 - 00;25;12;10

Ron Zappolo

He's a tackling machine. He'll stop the run. He's in the prime of his career. He will not cost an arm and a leg. That's an example of somebody I think the the Broncos would be, in.

00;25;12;16 - 00;25;13;22

Tom Green

Their case, probably excited to win a.

00;25;13;22 - 00;25;16;21

Ron Zappolo

Couple games. He'd like to win a few games. Exactly. Yeah.

00;25;16;21 - 00;25;27;28

Woody Paige

And what you're bringing up with, they're in a position now that you need a couple of guys that may be in their last year. Yeah, but they can give you one more great year. Yeah.

00;25;27;28 - 00;25;30;10

Ron Zappolo

And exactly. You're trying to win a championship.

00;25;30;10 - 00;25;40;29

Woody Paige

People would say well who are you talking about there. Were they they win. Got a guy from the Dallas Cowboys that ended up in the Hall of Fame, and he only gave them one year really.

00;25;40;29 - 00;25;41;18

Ron Zappolo

But it was a good.

00;25;41;18 - 00;25;42;17

Tom Green

One DeMarcus Ware.

00;25;42;20 - 00;25;43;00

Woody Paige

Yeah.

00;25;43;06 - 00;26;02;05

Tom Green

So but here's the thing. And we're going to get into Davis Webb with this is if you're the Broncos and everyone wants you to add playmakers are you capable of using playmakers. Get a tight end get a tight end. Are the Broncos going to actually use at tight end. You know, get a running back, get a bell cow and trust your run game.

00;26;02;07 - 00;26;22;00

Tom Green

So all those are good ideas. You still need to actually throw the ball to the tight end or commit to the run if you're going to get those players. So that becomes the balance. Trying to look forward is what kind of offensive shift do you see with Davis Webb? I think surprising to a lot of us taking control.

00;26;22;00 - 00;26;25;25

Tom Green

I think people were shocked that Sean Payton would let him let him do it.

00;26;25;28 - 00;26;42;20

Woody Paige

I thought a week ago and that was the same day he announced it, after we did the show that he would be in the in the press box, and I think he's still going to be in the press box. And he got called some place and and that if, if, Sean Payton wants to make a change here with that.

00;26;42;22 - 00;26;46;29

Ron Zappolo

Although Sean Payton still have the menu in front of him, do you think.

00;26;47;02 - 00;26;50;15

Woody Paige

I think I called that that reminds me of The Cheesecake Factory.

00;26;50;15 - 00;26;50;27

Speaker 4

Yeah.

00;26;50;27 - 00;26;55;13

Woody Paige

The book, like five pages. Yeah. And you go, I bet I forgot what I ordered, but.

00;26;55;15 - 00;26;56;03

Ron Zappolo

I bet he will.

00;26;56;03 - 00;27;08;12

Woody Paige

Have. Sam's number three was the other choice I was going to put in the column. Is it? Man? I go into Sam's number three and I said, I'd like, page three. I'd like. They have everything on. I want the Frito pie, I think.

00;27;08;12 - 00;27;11;25

Ron Zappolo

I think he will keep the Sam's number three.

00;27;11;27 - 00;27;35;14

Woody Paige

So I did a little depth, here and went back and looked at what plays he called against the Cardinals in the preseason. I went through play by play by play. And here's what you're going to get, which I think I saw, a preference of is a lot deeper passes, more often more aggressive. See.

00;27;35;16 - 00;27;36;20

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. Vertical down.

00;27;36;21 - 00;27;42;17

Woody Paige

He really liked going down the field. And he went down the field with Ingram I mean.

00;27;42;20 - 00;27;44;04

Tom Green

I remember he had one big play.

00;27;44;04 - 00;28;03;10

Woody Paige

Yeah that I think you're going to see a more wide open. Because I do think that Sean Payton brought it in. He closed it down. He was so busy with the behind the behind the play passes which got them into trouble.

00;28;03;10 - 00;28;17;27

Tom Green

Players substitutions seemed to get them behind the eight ball two. They substitute every every play and that got him behind in the play clock too. I wonder if they just need either more versatile players or to understand that sometimes you got to play with a tempo and a pace and.

00;28;17;27 - 00;28;31;03

Ron Zappolo

Force the other, and that's what's practice for. I mean, you shouldn't be there shouldn't be during the game. A problem with personnel. Yeah, because you're practicing that all week. That's what they practice. Yeah. So I mean all teams say they all used to say 13.

00;28;31;06 - 00;28;43;00

Woody Paige

But I think he is going to speed it up. I think based on seeing that he'll be in the shotgun and he'll be in no huddle. And we haven't really thought about that. Have you heard that word since Payton?

00;28;43;01 - 00;28;43;18

Tom Green

Not really.

00;28;43;18 - 00;28;44;11

Woody Paige

Not really.

00;28;44;14 - 00;28;45;17

Tom Green

In the muddle huddle kind of.

00;28;45;22 - 00;28;46;07

Ron Zappolo

Yeah.

00;28;46;09 - 00;28;54;06

Woody Paige

He brought out the no huddle during that and Arizona Cardinals game. And I said that's what I want. I want to see that in some tempo.

00;28;54;10 - 00;28;56;12

Tom Green

I would also like to play the Cardinals more often.

00;28;56;12 - 00;28;57;06

Ron Zappolo

Yeah I'd be good to.

00;28;57;09 - 00;28;58;01

Speaker 4

If we could go.

00;28;58;07 - 00;28;58;26

Tom Green

Get a five.

00;28;58;26 - 00;29;01;04

Ron Zappolo

Game, you could get the Jets at a Cardinal.

00;29;01;08 - 00;29;22;23

Woody Paige

Adam Gase told me when he was the offensive coordinator for Peyton, and he said to me, I thought it was totally we were sitting out on that platform where they do the media conferences afterward. And he said, Peyton, get so mad at me if I don't have a play there within five seconds. Yeah, because that gives him time to jack around with it if he wants to.

00;29;22;26 - 00;29;48;06

Woody Paige

And so I go to Peyton as he says. He said, yeah, he said, what people don't get is the, fast plays really are not fast. It's the having it the concept fast. Then you go to the line and then you figure out what you're doing, he said. I basically played a hurry up and wait on offense, and that's what I would like to see.

00;29;48;07 - 00;29;57;01

Tom Green

Shelby Harris talked about it with this last week about how what an advantage for the defense if you're standing there calling hut hut at 3 to 1. I mean.

00;29;57;03 - 00;30;14;18

Ron Zappolo

The you know, I think it's great that Sean Payton, is allowing David Davis Webb to do this. It'll be the first time Davis Webb has ever called plays. And I think it's one thing to call plays in the preseason. It's one thing to think about play calling. It's another thing when it's live action.

00;30;14;18 - 00;30;40;19

Woody Paige

But it's happened as a result of that because they did start talking about it. Yeah. After that. So it put it placed in in Sean Peyton's mind. I got a guy, I don't want to do Carmichael. I don't want to do Lombardi. They're my old guys that I've got a young new guy. So he did admit in in Indianapolis, he said we had several conversations during the course of the year, so Webb was thinking about it.

00;30;40;22 - 00;30;44;26

Woody Paige

But I also think there was another thing is don't go somewhere else and call the police.

00;30;44;26 - 00;30;46;09

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, that's a big part of it. I think.

00;30;46;14 - 00;30;49;16

Tom Green

You talked about like Davis Webb having to do it for the first time.

00;30;49;23 - 00;30;53;12

Woody Paige

Didn't he didn't. And you said he's never call plays.

00;30;53;13 - 00;30;54;02

Ron Zappolo

Not in the NFL.

00;30;54;02 - 00;30;56;17

Woody Paige

Didn't he write some great songs.

00;30;56;20 - 00;30;57;04

Tom Green

As Jimmy.

00;30;57;04 - 00;31;03;25

Ron Zappolo

Jimmy Webb. That was his cousin. By the time I get to Phoenix we can go down Wellington. Wellington. Well, you know.

00;31;03;25 - 00;31;04;24

Woody Paige

MacArthur Park, but who do.

00;31;04;24 - 00;31;13;14

Tom Green

You. Carter. Parker. If Davis Webb does, in fact, have a learning curve, so will Sean Payton. I'm wondering which one of the two of them is going to struggle.

00;31;13;14 - 00;31;17;27

Ron Zappolo

Let me ask. Let me ask you this. You say Davis Webb's going to have a learning curve. I agree with.

00;31;17;27 - 00;31;18;13

Tom Green

You. What about.

00;31;18;13 - 00;31;21;19

Ron Zappolo

Sean? So if the Broncos get off to a one and two start.

00;31;21;22 - 00;31;23;23

Tom Green

Yeah. And they're well they're on the.

00;31;23;25 - 00;31;25;01

Ron Zappolo

Defense's and clicking.

00;31;25;01 - 00;31;28;27

Tom Green

But doesn't it have to get better. Their offense has been pretty bad. Yeah I mean.

00;31;28;27 - 00;31;36;17

Ron Zappolo

It was so bad last year they won 15 games. Yeah I admit it's not been great. But Sean Payton is going to tell you it was good enough.

00;31;36;19 - 00;31;41;05

Woody Paige

So what's he going to do. What will be his duties.

00;31;41;06 - 00;31;41;26

Ron Zappolo

Sean Payton.

00;31;41;29 - 00;31;49;22

Woody Paige

Yeah I mean he's spent his entire career calling plays and that's all they did. He did. He never does anything. On with the defense. What he'd never have.

00;31;49;22 - 00;31;56;07

Tom Green

Maybe he maybe metal more with Vance in the defense maybe. And he'll certainly clock and time out.

00;31;56;09 - 00;31;59;03

Ron Zappolo

I think he's still going to have the menu in front of him.

00;31;59;06 - 00;32;00;09

Tom Green

And he's going to shake off.

00;32;00;10 - 00;32;03;19

Ron Zappolo

I think he's going to you know, he's going to shake off a couple of.

00;32;03;22 - 00;32;04;02

Tom Green

From like.

00;32;04;03 - 00;32;16;01

Ron Zappolo

Biola. He's going to be like Frank viola. You're going to get the head. I do think he will because I don't think he can just cold turkey say that's it. Yeah, I've seen guys do it. Well, Brian De ball did it a couple of years ago and.

00;32;16;03 - 00;32;18;20

Woody Paige

Said carries his round and he.

00;32;18;23 - 00;32;20;25

Ron Zappolo

Well yeah he's got a great like down there.

00;32;20;27 - 00;32;22;20

Tom Green

Well Dan Campbell jumped back in.

00;32;22;27 - 00;32;28;11

Ron Zappolo

Dan Campbell jumped in I think an under duress coaches jump back in. And like if the Johnny.

00;32;28;11 - 00;32;30;18

Tom Green

Morton ended up getting Kennedy coming back here.

00;32;30;19 - 00;32;34;23

Ron Zappolo

If the Broncos get off to a slow start, don't be surprised if Sean Payton.

00;32;34;23 - 00;32;51;16

Tom Green

Well, the last few years we haven't seen the schedule, but the last few years their schedule has opened so soft. I mean, they just needed you got to go three and one four and oh whatever. Because you're you're ended up playing you know these non non divisional games against nobodies. We'll see what the schedule.

00;32;51;16 - 00;32;52;15

Ron Zappolo

Will see what it looks like.

00;32;52;22 - 00;32;55;00

Tom Green

This year to be tougher as a first place team. Yeah.

00;32;55;00 - 00;33;02;25

Woody Paige

Let me give you a history lesson for just a moment though that the the NFL schedule used to be done by one guy.

00;33;02;28 - 00;33;03;09

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;33;03;09 - 00;33;04;24

Ron Zappolo

And I do remember there's a.

00;33;04;24 - 00;33;06;03

Woody Paige

Former.

00;33;06;05 - 00;33;08;22

Tom Green

There's a pin everybody do it or did Dow pinch.

00;33;08;22 - 00;33;10;16

Ron Zappolo

Back. Yes I think it was Val Pinchbeck.

00;33;10;16 - 00;33;19;18

Woody Paige

Yes. And he had been the PR director for the not for the Broncos. So he's doing it. He's got.

00;33;19;20 - 00;33;22;10

Woody Paige

You know when they have a murder mystery.

00;33;22;13 - 00;33;26;12

Speaker 4

The red and red wall yard. Yeah.

00;33;26;14 - 00;33;41;21

Woody Paige

Did he go. Well I can't do this because I got the Raiders at three spots Sunday okay I can't do that. And now of course it's all done by computers and filled in the blanks. But the Broncos used to have some of the greatest start to the season. Thanks, bro.

00;33;41;24 - 00;33;42;17

Ron Zappolo

Thanks, Val.

00;33;42;22 - 00;33;44;03

Woody Paige

Because, Val. Hey. Hey.

00;33;44;06 - 00;34;04;00

Ron Zappolo

Speaking of murder mystery. Yeah. Are either of you surprised at how much press Savannah Guthrie's mother has gotten? Well, are we? Do we just live in a celebrity, driven culture that any sort of connection to celebrity makes a story massive?

00;34;04;00 - 00;34;10;28

Tom Green

This one can be connected to everyone, though. It's just it's a it's a mystery about an elderly woman. It is. It is.

00;34;10;29 - 00;34;17;21

Ron Zappolo

Could be any of our moms. But there's a lot of elderly women. I'm going to assume that.

00;34;17;24 - 00;34;18;08

Speaker 4

They want to.

00;34;18;08 - 00;34;20;25

Speaker 5

Stick to targeted demographics.

00;34;20;27 - 00;34;43;20

Ron Zappolo

Well, I mean, and Savannah Guthrie on some level is kind of America's sweetheart, whether you like her or don't like her, whatever you think of her. But there's a lot of people that go missing all the time. But up until the war here for 30 days, it was amazing how much coverage that story got.

00;34;43;20 - 00;35;13;08

Tom Green

So to tie that into Iran, I will say that I was working at an ABC station starting my career in 1979 when the embassy was taken in, Tehran, and ABC started to do a nightly 1135 update on the situation there, and it was called America Held Hostage. Day 23, day 28, day 57. And when it got into the two and three hundreds and they realized this wasn't ending anytime soon, that's what became Nightline.

00;35;13;11 - 00;35;24;12

Tom Green

But they kind of got saddled with this. We're not going to let go of this story until and especially for NBC. This story is not progressing right now.

00;35;24;17 - 00;35;33;04

Ron Zappolo

No. In that story, you make a great point that made Ted Koppel's career, and that was a story that the nation had an interest.

00;35;33;06 - 00;35;35;20

Tom Green

Lost interest in a day, but it was.

00;35;35;20 - 00;35;37;06

Ron Zappolo

Still not an important story.

00;35;37;06 - 00;35;37;29

Speaker 4

Yes.

00;35;38;02 - 00;35;52;19

Ron Zappolo

The fact that an 84 year old woman was abducted. While it's sad I get you, it's very sad. It's not a story that in the bigger picture of what's going on in America, it's not that important. It's really. You mentioned.

00;35;52;19 - 00;35;54;15

Tom Green

Murder mysteries. They're they're popular.

00;35;54;16 - 00;35;55;00

Ron Zappolo

They are.

00;35;55;05 - 00;35;55;11

Tom Green

The.

00;35;55;18 - 00;36;05;04

Ron Zappolo

But I do believe if it was somebody other than Savannah Guthrie. Right, it would not get this type of coverage.

00;36;05;04 - 00;36;29;01

Woody Paige

Yeah, sure. And I got a call from an ex-wife who said, you know how much I love Savannah Guthrie. What's going on with her? You go. And I said, well, I had a dream the other night. They found her mother in a pond. That's two miles away. And she said, that sounds like it could happen. I said, well, if it does happen, then give me credit for what I said.

00;36;29;03 - 00;36;47;20

Woody Paige

Why am I dreaming about that? I don't care, I don't care much for Savannah Guthrie. I don't get, what's the today show? Which was a funny story. I did a show opposite Today show right on the old picture, and I brought my mother from Memphis to see me, and she said, can I stand outside the window?

00;36;47;20 - 00;36;50;03

Woody Paige

It today instead of watching you?

00;36;50;05 - 00;36;51;24

Ron Zappolo

I rather do that.

00;36;51;26 - 00;36;53;06

Woody Paige

That's what. No, I don't.

00;36;53;06 - 00;37;09;19

Ron Zappolo

Know why I brought it up. It was just that I remember, you know, watching the news and it was constantly the first ten minutes of these national news programs or the search for, Savannah Guthrie's mother. And I thought, yeah, okay, I get that. But day after day after day of really?

00;37;09;19 - 00;37;11;12

Tom Green

No, no update.

00;37;11;14 - 00;37;23;29

Ron Zappolo

No update, no real significant change in, it just took me to the war. It took it took the Epstein files and the war to drive that, off the front.

00;37;23;29 - 00;37;26;05

Tom Green

Page is always the next biggest thing. Yeah, there's.

00;37;26;08 - 00;37;27;18

Woody Paige

Like, the Epstein files.

00;37;27;20 - 00;37;40;25

Ron Zappolo

Like, it's funny how the Epstein files were a huge story last Wednesday and Thursday with Bill and Hillary Clinton both testifying. And then on Saturday, we haven't heard one word about the Epstein files. What a coincidence.

00;37;40;25 - 00;37;42;11

Tom Green

Yeah, they'll be back.

00;37;42;13 - 00;37;43;28

Ron Zappolo

They will. They're not going away.

00;37;43;28 - 00;38;07;06

Tom Green

I have one last Bronco thing I want to talk about. George Peyton and his contract. I give him an A. I think he's been a terrific general manager. He he wrote some some hard road early, and now he's, he's one of the reasons the Broncos, enjoyed their success this year. It's never perfect, but, I'm actually a little bit surprised that he hasn't already.

00;38;07;06 - 00;38;10;12

Tom Green

And I presume he will soon, be afforded a new coach.

00;38;10;12 - 00;38;14;02

Ron Zappolo

Sean Payton came out and supported that.

00;38;14;05 - 00;38;24;21

Woody Paige

Yeah. So I, I wrote about halfway through the season that he'd earned it, that I was one of those that wanted to drive him away early. I mean, after Russell Wilson, if you survive that.

00;38;24;21 - 00;38;25;10

Tom Green

The contract.

00;38;25;15 - 00;38;36;15

Woody Paige

And he has managed to accomplish that, here's what I believe. And I did talk to someone. There is an agreement. They just don't want to deal with it.

00;38;36;15 - 00;38;37;11

Tom Green

No time at.

00;38;37;13 - 00;38;42;08

Woody Paige

The this is the timing for announcing it with all the changes.

00;38;42;11 - 00;38;59;23

Ron Zappolo

Let me ask you, because you're way closer to this because you still work this. If we cut it by percentages, Sean Payton and George Payton, how much power to Sean Payton have? How much power does George Payton have?

00;38;59;25 - 00;39;02;07

Woody Paige

I think it's Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

00;39;02;09 - 00;39;04;20

Ron Zappolo

Okay. You think it's closer than what I would.

00;39;04;20 - 00;39;10;23

Woody Paige

They split it. So you got one guy and that's a no. Such a terrible.

00;39;10;23 - 00;39;13;20

Ron Zappolo

Old. Well, I, I'm old enough to get it. Natasha.

00;39;13;23 - 00;39;19;14

Woody Paige

But it's not about it's not Sonny and Cher, where Cher was 90% of it. And Sonny was. Well, I'm.

00;39;19;14 - 00;39;20;13

Tom Green

Going to go for Abbott and.

00;39;20;13 - 00;39;26;29

Ron Zappolo

Costello, Abbott and Costello, Hall and Oates. Maybe I'll go with you. But Daryl Hall had more. Okay.

00;39;27;02 - 00;39;31;04

Speaker 4

What are. He's like you old guys.

00;39;31;07 - 00;39;34;04

Ron Zappolo

All these people. Oh, come on, she knows Hall. Yeah, let's.

00;39;34;04 - 00;39;36;11

Woody Paige

Let's bring it up. The sobbing again.

00;39;36;13 - 00;39;39;18

Speaker 4

Yeah.

00;39;39;20 - 00;39;41;27

Woody Paige

Oh. Who today is a team.

00;39;41;29 - 00;40;03;13

Ron Zappolo

Educate me on this because I always thought. And I'm open to you telling me because you're closer. I thought Sean Payton had about 75 to 80% of the power. And the George Payton was kind of like Joe Shane. Now with what happened, go scout do that stuff. But all the big decisions are running through Sean Payton.

00;40;03;16 - 00;40;27;10

Woody Paige

Payton would have been gone. George would have been gone if they hadn't hired Sean Payton, because what Sean Payton decided was he got 75% right, whatever money. But the more he got comfortable this is from inside the right, the more he got comfortable with George. He made it more of a team game.

00;40;27;10 - 00;40;28;03

Ron Zappolo

Yeah okay.

00;40;28;04 - 00;40;51;14

Woody Paige

Tween the two of them of saying yes, take all of this off my plate. Come to me with fourth round picks that you really like. Let me pick the quarterback. But you get two, three and four. You get the contracts. You have people doing contracts. I don't want to deal with that at all. I don't want to deal.

00;40;51;14 - 00;40;52;09

Tom Green

With the guy.

00;40;52;10 - 00;41;01;01

Woody Paige

Facility over there. Yeah, you go through it. But I want to be the guy that names my offensive coordinator. Right?

00;41;01;01 - 00;41;04;26

Tom Green

Sean was named the former New Orleans Saints that he wants here.

00;41;04;26 - 00;41;14;11

Ron Zappolo

But the Sean Payton, he has control. When they cut the roster down Sean Payton's got more control right. That's his.

00;41;14;11 - 00;41;21;20

Woody Paige

I think that's that brings bring Joseph into the he lets Vance Joseph choose the.

00;41;21;20 - 00;41;22;25

Ron Zappolo

Defense.

00;41;22;28 - 00;41;26;21

Woody Paige

George let's Vance Joseph you're looking at me for.

00;41;26;22 - 00;41;52;02

Tom Green

No because I'm thinking, you know, the real power structure of the Broncos is blessed with the ownership they have, right. Because Greg Penner does run the team not from he's not in there, but he definitely. When you look at what happened with with Sean Payton, a ceding control of the offense, the play calling to Davis Webb, some of that had to come from outside the room.

00;41;52;02 - 00;42;16;00

Tom Green

Sure. And I'm thinking Greg Penner is the perfect example because we just went through it a year ago with with the nuggets and Josh Cronk. He watched it happen. It's Calvin Booth and Michael Malone just kind of burned down while they're screwing around with each other and didn't get the best out of both of their jobs. I get the feeling Greg Penner is the guy who referees this so that it's okay, that it's a moving.

00;42;16;04 - 00;42;18;15

Tom Green

I think it's sometimes George gets gets what he.

00;42;18;16 - 00;42;42;10

Ron Zappolo

So here's what I'm driving it. So in a couple weeks from now when they're meeting on the first big meeting before the draft and they're all in the room, the scouts, George Payton, Sean Payton, Vance Joseph, whoever else, and it comes out that Sean Payton likes one guy in the first round, George Payton likes another guy, and maybe Vance Joseph likes the third guy.

00;42;42;12 - 00;42;48;21

Ron Zappolo

Does Greg Penner settle that? No. Or does Sean Payton say, here's what we're going to do.

00;42;48;21 - 00;43;02;08

Tom Green

Payton has a has a big hand up this year. This year especially because of Josh Barron last year, Jordy Barron was the proper draft choice for a general manager to make. Didn't help the coaches look. Not at all. So that's also.

00;43;02;11 - 00;43;03;08

Ron Zappolo

What you're saying. I don't know.

00;43;03;08 - 00;43;08;17

Tom Green

Who the coach is going to draft, but with Josh Barron in their rearview mirror, Sean saying he won't be a great.

00;43;08;17 - 00;43;12;29

Ron Zappolo

Player, but you're saying that Sean Payton will make that.

00;43;13;01 - 00;43;13;09

Woody Paige

This.

00;43;13;10 - 00;43;14;06

Tom Green

I believe this is.

00;43;14;06 - 00;43;23;05

Woody Paige

A great bar conversation and I'm enjoying this because I remember Dan Reeves making a pick. He made a pick that almost destroyed the franchise.

00;43;23;06 - 00;43;25;21

Ron Zappolo

Tommy mathematics, Tommy Maddox.

00;43;25;23 - 00;43;30;13

Woody Paige

Nobody. Carl, nobody else had anything to do with that. And that was Dan Reeves.

00;43;30;13 - 00;43;34;06

Tom Green

But they knew that Elway only had 8 or 10 years left.

00;43;34;08 - 00;43;35;04

Speaker 4

There was the.

00;43;35;09 - 00;44;01;26

Woody Paige

Worst pick in the history of the year that, oh, John, we need somebody to backup John for six years or seven years. I mean, that that was a green Bay Packers got a Brett Favre Aaron Paul got a deal. But here's what you don't know about Peter. And I'm not speaking down to you guys. He went to Joe Ellis in 2013.

00;44;01;28 - 00;44;03;16

Tom Green

Way back before and.

00;44;03;16 - 00;44;08;11

Woody Paige

Said if because the word was out about the owner.

00;44;08;11 - 00;44;09;08

Tom Green

About Pat having.

00;44;09;08 - 00;44;25;21

Woody Paige

Some problems, and he said, if you decide you're going to sell the franchise, I'd like to be on that list. And there's some comparisons to the two ownerships. And they both did the, the, the triathlons.

00;44;25;24 - 00;44;52;08

Woody Paige

They both were successful businessmen. One had a lot more money presented to him. But what I think happened with the previous owner was that he learned the game enough and knew of the game and actually played the game in high school in the back at Oklahoma, that he was a football person.

00;44;52;08 - 00;44;54;26

Tom Green

His that his view was valid.

00;44;54;29 - 00;45;23;25

Woody Paige

Peter is an athlete and he's been on the, athletic director board at Stanford. He's a football guy. I think that he has more input than maybe you get a credit for, because he is not a he comes out and does a press conference and he'll answer questions. And he's pretty honest. I think about most everything, but he doesn't look for a place at the front of the line.

00;45;23;27 - 00;45;42;20

Ron Zappolo

And that's what was of great about Pat Bohn knew that. Had Pat. Yeah, Pat played football. Pat knew football. But yeah, Pat never, got in front of Dan Reeves or Mike Shanahan and said, here's what we're doing. He said, you guys do it. You got to report to me and you let me know what you need to be successful and I'll do it.

00;45;42;20 - 00;45;59;13

Woody Paige

Here's what I think happened with Bo Nix. Peyton comes back and says, that's my guy, Sean. That's my guy. Yeah. Sean Payton yeah. He comes back and says it. And George says, well, let me do some, deep diving.

00;45;59;13 - 00;46;02;16

Ron Zappolo

Here. He says, you don't need to.

00;46;02;18 - 00;46;03;27

Tom Green

Find out whatever you want to find out.

00;46;03;27 - 00;46;04;21

Speaker 4

Yeah.

00;46;04;24 - 00;46;05;27

Woody Paige

If he means that much to.

00;46;05;27 - 00;46;07;04

Tom Green

You, what do you got? The Jersey man.

00;46;07;07 - 00;46;21;11

Woody Paige

Yeah. And then Peter said, prove it to me. Prove it to me. Come in and talk to me for five hours. Yes. I'm going to go with you on this. I think that's how this owner approaches that. He did do that.

00;46;21;16 - 00;46;32;14

Ron Zappolo

But is this owner always going to side with Sean Payton as opposed to anybody else in the organization? Yes. Yeah, I think so too.

00;46;32;16 - 00;46;33;21

Woody Paige

But he knows.

00;46;33;21 - 00;46;34;27

Ron Zappolo

He's the guy.

00;46;34;29 - 00;46;41;11

Woody Paige

He knows that George Payton is a guy that he needs in this to.

00;46;41;11 - 00;46;57;11

Ron Zappolo

For all the reasons that you pointed out between. But let's say free agency is right around the corner. And let's say Sean Payton is in love with Isaiah likely. And the money's decent. And George Payton says I'm not sold on him. I got some other guys I think I Sean Payton.

00;46;57;11 - 00;46;57;24

Tom Green

Isaiah like.

00;46;57;24 - 00;46;59;01

Speaker 4

I think he'll be here.

00;46;59;07 - 00;47;13;11

Woody Paige

Yeah. If I were Penner at this point I'd say, guys let's talk about bringing in guys that have injury histories. Look at what happened with our running back, what happened with our, linebacker,

00;47;13;13 - 00;47;15;16

Tom Green

Who worked out? He stayed healthy.

00;47;15;16 - 00;47;29;27

Woody Paige

And go one out of four guys, I put four. Yeah, because that was the joker. You know this. And he's been a joke as far as I'm concerned. They gave him the wrong nickname. Ingram. I'm talking about. Really? There's not much left in that tank.

00;47;29;27 - 00;47;32;01

Ron Zappolo

When you're. Deal. He'll be moved on.

00;47;32;03 - 00;47;50;22

Tom Green

00;48;39;22 - 00;48;40;07

Ron Zappolo

Well done.

00;48;40;07 - 00;48;58;23

Tom Green

Tom. Thank you very much. Hey, hey, I want to talk to you guys a little bit about the rockets. Had had a fun, deep dive. I was, remembering how, how fans can get excited in spring training. You know, you win a couple games, they start to look decent, and you think, here we go. Maybe we won't be as bad as people say.

00;48;58;25 - 00;49;22;00

Tom Green

And so then I was saying to someone, you have to give people some false hope at some point. So I looked up last year, which was fantastic because they never they never they, they went through April. They won on the last day of April to finish the month five and 25. And then they won one fewer game in May.

00;49;22;02 - 00;49;38;26

Tom Green

They were 27 games out by Memorial Day. So the question becomes, you know, can you are you any much better? Can you start faster? Does anyone have any any excitement, reason to believe in any way, shape or form.

00;49;38;28 - 00;49;42;23

Woody Paige

As the number one?

00;49;42;25 - 00;49;45;26

Speaker 4

Enemy to the Colorado Rockies?

00;49;45;29 - 00;49;53;02

Ron Zappolo

I think you know, I would, but I'm kind of as a retired guy. I'm coming up on the outside quickly.

00;49;53;05 - 00;49;55;06

Tom Green

You got to put more effort in. I know you got to catch what?

00;49;55;09 - 00;49;56;08

Ron Zappolo

What is more concerned they.

00;49;56;08 - 00;50;00;21

Woody Paige

Got they didn't get rid of the manager last year, but but should have gone.

00;50;00;25 - 00;50;01;13

Tom Green

Right.

00;50;01;16 - 00;50;22;16

Woody Paige

So they that was his team. They have gone to the younger guy that I actually about two years ago said that should be the guy because he worked with all what they had and players with roster in the minor leagues. And I said, you know, he did a good job in Albuquerque. If you look at it, and he was into Hartford, that he'd got did a good job.

00;50;22;21 - 00;50;41;27

Woody Paige

He deserved that. And the new, leadership out there felt like after interviewing him, yeah, he's got some great ideas. We're seeing more of a coaching spring training that I've seen.

00;50;41;29 - 00;50;42;23

Woody Paige

Maybe ever.

00;50;42;23 - 00;50;45;11

Tom Green

Well, at least they're changing direction. Maybe they're going straight down.

00;50;45;11 - 00;51;07;06

Woody Paige

So any direction is looking at it. You're diving from that direction. I'm looking at the roster now and I like McCarthy. Jake McCarthy I think, that they have a lot of 600 batting average right now. That's terrific. So you can't beat Hunter Goodman. Goodmans not, hitting his son's weight in. The son's about six years old, but.

00;51;07;08 - 00;51;22;07

Woody Paige

And that's your big time hitter from last year? I like what they're doing in terms of speed, defensively and on the base pads. I've told you guys a week ago that you got to have home run hit.

00;51;22;08 - 00;51;24;12

Tom Green

This is the most optimistic I've ever heard you.

00;51;24;13 - 00;51;45;15

Woody Paige

Yes, but I'm doing the positive aspects. I like that they went out and got veteran pitchers who know how to pitch. They know how to pitch. They are trying to do things, adding a pitch to some other guys say, you know, let's try this pitch in spring training. They are 6 in 4.

00;51;45;16 - 00;51;46;01

Speaker 4

Oh I don't.

00;51;46;05 - 00;51;49;04

Woody Paige

Yeah, seven and four. They're they're like third in.

00;51;49;06 - 00;51;50;16

Tom Green

Wins and losses in.

00;51;50;18 - 00;51;53;05

Woody Paige

Cactus. No I didn't even watch.

00;51;53;05 - 00;51;55;28

Ron Zappolo

A spring training game. They are completely.

00;51;56;00 - 00;52;19;00

Woody Paige

Covered. And where I I've had two years where I was, optimistic because of what I was seeing down there. But I would say this, I think turning over the roster as they have, getting away from that total feeling of always being able to say draft and develop, which was bullshit every year because it ended up with 16 guys that they didn't draft, drafted.

00;52;19;00 - 00;52;19;28

Tom Green

Nor developed whatever.

00;52;19;28 - 00;52;34;07

Woody Paige

You know. But, I'm impressed with the attitude, I think, that a former pitcher for them who's now with, that the angels said, you know, it's not. No. The Padres.

00;52;34;07 - 00;52;35;12

Tom Green

Oh. Herman Marquez.

00;52;35;12 - 00;52;39;03

Woody Paige

Yeah. And he said, you know, it's nice to be with a team that wants to win.

00;52;39;04 - 00;52;42;29

Tom Green

Well, that's pretty that's that's a pretty.

00;52;42;29 - 00;52;43;29

Ron Zappolo

Listen to them anyway.

00;52;43;29 - 00;52;45;23

Woody Paige

I'm, I think.

00;52;45;23 - 00;52;46;28

Ron Zappolo

That he's being honest.

00;52;46;28 - 00;53;14;28

Woody Paige

This is this is a a better team a better coached team. That's what you got to at least start with. I think it's better prepared outside the team. Meaning it's not Dick Monfort just running off his mouth or, saying we're going to win 95 games this year, which he did one year. And I think that they put the two Suns kind of okay, you're over here.

00;53;15;01 - 00;53;31;09

Woody Paige

You win. You run the, business aspect. You stay with that. And you can you give the scout and you can you give offer opinions. So they do have a a new leadership form that hasn't existed ever.

00;53;31;12 - 00;53;35;05

Tom Green

Ever. I'm afraid when you stop talking, Ron's going to jump in there.

00;53;35;07 - 00;53;36;09

Speaker 4

Let him let him out.

00;53;36;12 - 00;53;38;27

Woody Paige

But I'm more optimistic. What does that mean?

00;53;38;28 - 00;53;40;17

Ron Zappolo

I'm not disagreeing with this.

00;53;40;24 - 00;53;44;02

Woody Paige

They're going to win maybe 70 games. Maybe they.

00;53;44;02 - 00;53;44;27

Ron Zappolo

Win. You know what.

00;53;44;27 - 00;53;45;21

Tom Green

70.

00;53;45;21 - 00;54;11;09

Ron Zappolo

70 games? I will bet your I'll bet you what is important to you right now. I know you know 2070 games are you seven are out of your ever loving mind. Let me just succinctly wrap up what would you said and I don't disagree with them. The roster sucks. It sucks. It's so far behind every other team in the division of which they play 19 times.

00;54;11;09 - 00;54;31;18

Ron Zappolo

It's not close. They would have to improve by 20 games to not lose a hundred games 20. They lost 119 next year. You know what I want to talk about? Let's talk about the World Baseball Classic. I never thought that that was going to be, catch on. I think it has. Yeah, I think it's I really do.

00;54;31;19 - 00;54;32;21

Tom Green

Because there's a real it's way.

00;54;32;21 - 00;54;40;07

Ron Zappolo

More important what's going on with the Rockies, the World Baseball Classic coming off the Olympics. I actually think there's some juice.

00;54;40;10 - 00;54;42;18

Woody Paige

But you say they have the players, but let's say they.

00;54;42;19 - 00;54;44;02

Ron Zappolo

Have no players.

00;54;44;04 - 00;54;46;24

Woody Paige

At this, that 8 or 9 of their players or.

00;54;46;27 - 00;54;47;00

Ron Zappolo

The.

00;54;47;00 - 00;54;50;19

Woody Paige

World Baseball Classic. Just whatever flavor is real, you.

00;54;50;19 - 00;55;06;15

Ron Zappolo

Just rendered everything you said meaningless. In fact, I'm going to quote the famous John McEnroe you cannot be serious, Chuck. 70 wins six and you're going to go.

00;55;06;18 - 00;55;07;21

Speaker 4

You're 16. It's oh.

00;55;07;21 - 00;55;09;20

Ron Zappolo

Wait a minute, I did I hear 70.

00;55;09;20 - 00;55;12;20

Woody Paige

I quit, I didn't get to finish that sentence. You jumped in when I said to.

00;55;12;20 - 00;55;14;22

Tom Green

Me next this year he meant in the next couple.

00;55;14;23 - 00;55;17;06

Ron Zappolo

The next two years okay. The next two.

00;55;17;06 - 00;55;19;25

Woody Paige

Okay. I hope you live long enough.

00;55;19;28 - 00;55;20;26

Ron Zappolo

Well, I mean, not one.

00;55;20;26 - 00;55;21;10

Woody Paige

Of us.

00;55;21;15 - 00;55;23;23

Speaker 4

But I.

00;55;23;25 - 00;55;37;25

Ron Zappolo

How about just a dinner at either one of our restaurants? Says that I know they will not win 70 games, and Tom will come along and get the free win, no matter who wins. 70, 70. Listen, honest to God, if they win 55.

00;55;37;25 - 00;55;41;20

Woody Paige

I can't believe we're sitting here talking about 70. Is that I.

00;55;41;26 - 00;55;43;07

Tom Green

Unattainable?

00;55;43;10 - 00;55;47;00

Ron Zappolo

They lost 219 games last year.

00;55;47;00 - 00;55;52;02

Tom Green

They'd have to be 27 games better. And I don't know that they've made the necessary changes to improve 20.

00;55;52;02 - 00;55;56;09

Woody Paige

Do you see that team last year. Yeah. That was this is a better team.

00;55;56;09 - 00;55;57;16

Ron Zappolo

That's not that much.

00;55;57;17 - 00;56;01;17

Woody Paige

It's better managed than that team. No, it's got better coaching than that team.

00;56;01;18 - 00;56;02;06

Tom Green

There is one.

00;56;02;06 - 00;56;03;14

Ron Zappolo

Player who has.

00;56;03;16 - 00;56;26;07

Tom Green

There is one player who stood out this year more for his story and his size. Zach Veen, who was their next best thing for several years and was about to become another one of their draft busts. Zach Lean showed up this year tacking on 40 pounds, mostly upper body strength and he attributed to stop smoking weed and trying to take the game seriously.

00;56;26;07 - 00;56;33;21

Tom Green

Now he's hit a couple walk off home runs. He's he's you know, it looks like he is more of a major league player, certainly more of a potential like I.

00;56;33;21 - 00;56;35;11

Ron Zappolo

Think people are following all this.

00;56;35;18 - 00;56;50;24

Tom Green

No, that's why I'm bringing it up because he's an adult now where he. He'd been living in the fantasy land. You know where I get to, you know, finish the game, go smoke some dope. And I don't care who we're playing tomorrow if we're playing tomorrow. So maybe this is one young man who would be an interesting story.

00;56;50;26 - 00;57;09;27

Ron Zappolo

I just said there's Ryan Rocky fans. And that's a that's an interesting term because I don't know how many real fans there are. The Rockies, there's fans, of course. Field I think people go to the ballpark. They root for the Rockies. They don't know who the hell's playing for the Rockies. They don't know the backstories. They don't follow him.

00;57;09;27 - 00;57;27;01

Ron Zappolo

They've been, they've been deluged with bad baseball for so long. I think if you went out there and there were 30,000 people out there, and you actually questioned all of them about who were the guys in the home team uniforms, I don't know that they could tell you.

00;57;27;03 - 00;57;29;14

Tom Green

You might get. Yeah, people could name for.

00;57;29;17 - 00;57;59;17

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, they could name a couple guys, but they're they're used to what it is. And to Woody's point, maybe they've improved, but not on any. You can't give me the name. We've talked about this. It was so easy to bring in a slugger. They refused. You know what else bothers me about the Rockies? Well, we're on it. I just got read a story this morning in the Boston Globe where Pedro Martinez, the best pitcher of all time on his own every year.

00;57;59;23 - 00;58;02;17

Ron Zappolo

Well, he is, but hold on, let me finish my point.

00;58;02;20 - 00;58;03;04

Woody Paige

Over.

00;58;03;07 - 00;58;13;28

Ron Zappolo

On his own. He goes down to the spring training thing for a week and he works with all their pitchers. And I read the quotes from all the pitchers. They're, they're.

00;58;14;00 - 00;58;14;08

Woody Paige

They're.

00;58;14;08 - 00;58;33;02

Ron Zappolo

Mesmerized by him that he would even deign talking to them. And he tells one guy how to throw a curveball. He tells another guy what to do with the changeup. He told the young kid they got from Pittsburgh. He throw it like a roll. This Chapman, let me ask you something. They got Goose Gossage sitting here living in Colorado Springs forever.

00;58;33;07 - 00;58;41;12

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, he knows a little bit about pitching. Why the hell wouldn't you call him even if you want to be stupid enough not to hire him as a pitching coach, I don't want.

00;58;41;12 - 00;58;41;25

Tom Green

To listen to.

00;58;41;25 - 00;58;43;00

Ron Zappolo

Goose. They don't want to.

00;58;43;01 - 00;58;43;28

Tom Green

Tell them the hard truth.

00;58;44;02 - 00;58;51;29

Ron Zappolo

What would goose tell a guy about, you know, how could goose help a guy in the ball? Well, he I don't know. I have no idea. They, you know, he.

00;58;51;29 - 00;58;54;11

Woody Paige

Tried to get involved with them more often and.

00;58;54;19 - 00;58;55;13

Ron Zappolo

They basically.

00;58;55;13 - 00;58;56;14

Woody Paige

Blew him off. They know.

00;58;56;17 - 00;58;57;17

Tom Green

He's an honest guy.

00;58;57;17 - 00;58;59;01

Woody Paige

But that's not the guy you.

00;58;59;01 - 00;58;59;11

Ron Zappolo

Want us.

00;58;59;11 - 00;59;09;17

Woody Paige

For. Let's see what's interesting now. Turning that this way a little bit in the conversation. But I'm going to stick to 60 to 70 game.

00;59;09;17 - 00;59;12;17

Ron Zappolo

Wait a minute. That is don't let him do. That's where I was.

00;59;12;19 - 00;59;23;12

Woody Paige

With it okay? I'm going to live with 70 games. I'm living with 70 games. I hope you live. I hope this show lives well. Anyway, I.

00;59;23;15 - 00;59;24;06

Ron Zappolo

Strongly.

00;59;24;06 - 00;59;24;21

Tom Green

Question.

00;59;24;21 - 00;59;25;03

Ron Zappolo

About, you know.

00;59;25;03 - 00;59;34;28

Woody Paige

Said something that was great. Except don't call him the best pitcher of all time. They didn't name Cy Young Award after him.

00;59;35;01 - 00;59;36;20

Ron Zappolo

You put him in the top five.

00;59;36;22 - 00;59;38;05

Woody Paige

No, no, no.

00;59;38;07 - 00;59;41;14

Tom Green

He might be in my top five, but he's up there. I mean, I.

00;59;41;15 - 00;59;42;21

Ron Zappolo

Can make the argument.

00;59;42;21 - 00;59;47;10

Woody Paige

Yeah, okay, let's do it. That's a let's just do a show on the road. Oh no no.

00;59;47;10 - 00;59;48;23

Ron Zappolo

No, we're doing it. I'm throwing the.

00;59;48;29 - 00;59;51;24

Tom Green

He's more likely to be in the top five than the Rockies are doing.

00;59;51;24 - 01;00;09;20

Woody Paige

About what you say is if you were the Rockies, forget a relief pitcher. He threw fastballs. That's what he threw. Goose Gossage. So he's not going to teach him any pitches. Why not bring back the best pitcher in Rockies history to do that? Come down and work with you for 12. Who would that be?

01;00;09;23 - 01;00;12;14

Ron Zappolo

Oh, let's see, there's a lot of options here. I'd go with.

01;00;12;14 - 01;00;15;14

Speaker 4

There's nobody. There is nobody. There is.

01;00;15;14 - 01;00;15;29

Woody Paige

Nobody.

01;00;16;06 - 01;00;16;29

Tom Green

A Baldo.

01;00;17;00 - 01;00;21;07

Ron Zappolo

Osvaldo. Let's see. David need never.

01;00;21;10 - 01;00;21;24

Tom Green

I'm not a.

01;00;21;25 - 01;00;23;06

Ron Zappolo

Smart ass here.

01;00;23;08 - 01;00;23;29

Woody Paige

Who was.

01;00;24;02 - 01;00;25;15

Ron Zappolo

That? Be.

01;00;25;17 - 01;00;27;29

Tom Green

Pedro. Be one of the best.

01;00;27;29 - 01;00;37;14

Woody Paige

Pitcher I thought they ever had. Two. I'm going to give you two, and I'm not going to give you the name of. It was the sidearm relief pitcher, Steve Reed. Steve Reed.

01;00;37;16 - 01;00;38;16

Tom Green

Yeah. Nice guy.

01;00;38;17 - 01;00;40;16

Ron Zappolo

I think he still lives in Denver.

01;00;40;19 - 01;00;51;03

Woody Paige

That was the. And they did put him on. They did make he was the bullpen pitcher. But the the hard throwing relief pitcher the right hander.

01;00;51;03 - 01;00;56;22

Tom Green

Not hard enough didn't throw hard enough. Well that's a we're going to need a little more than.

01;00;56;25 - 01;01;00;10

Ron Zappolo

Hard, hard throwing relief pitcher is kind of vague.

01;01;00;11 - 01;01;05;06

Woody Paige

During the. But Don Baylor really hard throwing.

01;01;05;08 - 01;01;05;26

Tom Green

Like.

01;01;05;29 - 01;01;11;27

Ron Zappolo

Really Andy Ashby Bruce era homes. There was rough rooms, you know.

01;01;11;29 - 01;01;14;19

Woody Paige

In hopes he did serve as a.

01;01;14;22 - 01;01;15;22

Ron Zappolo

He was there pitching.

01;01;15;26 - 01;01;22;24

Woody Paige

But they don't have a starting pitcher. You know, a ball you're going to they don't have a starting now.

01;01;22;24 - 01;01;30;09

Ron Zappolo

But you know what. Let's go back to goose for a minute. Yeah. He threw fastballs. Goose could talk to pitchers about some.

01;01;30;11 - 01;01;30;17

Woody Paige

I know.

01;01;30;19 - 01;01;32;02

Ron Zappolo

Things that have to do with.

01;01;32;05 - 01;01;38;15

Woody Paige

And a mindset is a good friend. And I looked over the years. He hates them. He hates them. Like every I.

01;01;38;15 - 01;01;44;17

Ron Zappolo

Know why he hates them. I've talked to them. No, why? But I think and you know what? He's right. Yes, but he's right.

01;01;44;17 - 01;01;46;02

Tom Green

I do think I do think.

01;01;46;07 - 01;01;53;02

Ron Zappolo

They're crap because they had Goose Gossage wanting to come and help them, and they gave them the finger.

01;01;53;05 - 01;02;00;14

Woody Paige

Yeah. You know who else lives in Colorado Springs? It was a pretty good pitcher. Not for the Rockies. Steve. Carl.

01;02;00;14 - 01;02;03;27

Tom Green

Steve Carl is down in Durango. But yeah, he was.

01;02;04;00 - 01;02;06;02

Ron Zappolo

Is Tippy Martinez still down in low Hunter.

01;02;06;04 - 01;02;07;05

Tom Green

But,

01;02;07;08 - 01;02;09;10

Ron Zappolo

You know, it's funny. I do think a lot of good pitchers.

01;02;09;10 - 01;02;13;14

Tom Green

But I agree with you about because I think goose, you know, just listening to goose talk.

01;02;13;14 - 01;02;14;29

Woody Paige

About any market, you.

01;02;15;01 - 01;02;19;02

Ron Zappolo

You could not it could not hurt you to bring goose in.

01;02;19;02 - 01;02;36;01

Tom Green

I would say this to your pitchers, I think so many teams now the Rockies catching up with it. Analytics and goose isn't going to talk about spin rate and know you know all that sort of stuff that everyone is trying to teach now. So I don't know. You know, I, I.

01;02;36;01 - 01;02;43;17

Ron Zappolo

Don't know, I think that, you know, I think goose could talk about pitching inside. Yeah. Pinch hitting ahead of the count off, being tough.

01;02;43;17 - 01;02;44;08

Tom Green

Unafraid.

01;02;44;14 - 01;02;55;26

Ron Zappolo

Unafraid on the mound, being intimidating on the mound. Have a presence about, pitching in Colorado. He could do all of that, but. But why bother to bring goose?

01;02;55;29 - 01;03;04;17

Woody Paige

The hardest sound I've ever heard in sports was Yankees. Dodgers, 82, 81, 80 to 82.

01;03;04;17 - 01;03;05;00

Tom Green

Both years.

01;03;05;00 - 01;03;13;00

Woody Paige

Maybe, Goose Gossage hit rod, say in the head. That was the heart I was in. Well, first level of.

01;03;13;00 - 01;03;16;05

Tom Green

Say he's head is legendarily hard and percussive.

01;03;16;08 - 01;03;17;02

Woody Paige

That was the.

01;03;17;05 - 01;03;30;18

Ron Zappolo

When goose went into the Hall of Fame. He was nice. I called him and I said, could I come down? You're going to get in. Could I come down when you get the call and spend a couple hours with you? You go, sure. So we go down there and he sign me a ball, which was great and everything.

01;03;30;18 - 01;03;47;02

Ron Zappolo

So I did the interview with him, and at one point I made the mistake of asking goose a question, and I prefaced it by saying another Yankee reliever, Mariano Rivera, the greatest reliever of all time. And he said, stop.

01;03;47;05 - 01;03;48;19

Woody Paige

Cut, I love this.

01;03;48;20 - 01;03;49;10

Ron Zappolo

He was I.

01;03;49;10 - 01;03;49;21

Woody Paige

Choked.

01;03;49;21 - 01;03;50;11

Tom Green

Rivera had it.

01;03;50;11 - 01;03;51;19

Ron Zappolo

Easy. Go see.

01;03;51;21 - 01;03;52;08

Tom Green

Someplace.

01;03;52;11 - 01;03;55;05

Ron Zappolo

He goes. He had it easy. Let him do what I did.

01;03;55;06 - 01;03;56;05

Tom Green

Come in. My name was Evan.

01;03;56;07 - 01;04;00;14

Ron Zappolo

Come in. In the seventh with two on and one out and had to get eight outs.

01;04;00;17 - 01;04;10;04

Woody Paige

You're a great interviewer, but you should have started saying who was the greatest pitch relief pitcher in the history of Japanese baseball, because Gus spent three years.

01;04;10;05 - 01;04;10;28

Ron Zappolo

Over there.

01;04;11;03 - 01;04;17;28

Woody Paige

And he was. They didn't know what to think of goose because nobody threw as hard as he did. He was throwing in the 19.

01;04;17;28 - 01;04;25;25

Ron Zappolo

And I tried to tell this to goose. I said, you and Rivera had something in common. He goes, no, he didn't. I got you had one thing. The hitters knew what was coming. They just couldn't get it.

01;04;25;25 - 01;04;26;09

Tom Green

He couldn't deal.

01;04;26;09 - 01;04;26;28

Ron Zappolo

With it, couldn't deal.

01;04;26;28 - 01;04;42;00

Tom Green

With. Although I will say this, I played golf with goose a couple of years ago, and he's still the same cantankerous, competitive. Yep. And he swears like golfers swear. But most of his anger, most of his agita is is aimed at goose.

01;04;42;02 - 01;04;42;12

Ron Zappolo

Yeah.

01;04;42;12 - 01;04;58;24

Tom Green

He's so you know what I'm talking about. But wait, I want to finish this with one thing. We halfway through the back nine or something, and I started to go into kind of a joke bit about how instead of having your best friend and duck you at the Hall of Fame, you should pick some guy who you struggled with.

01;04;58;25 - 01;05;02;24

Tom Green

I said, like George Brett.

01;05;02;26 - 01;05;06;28

Speaker 4

I kind of hit a kind of hit a nerve. He,

01;05;07;00 - 01;05;09;00

Ron Zappolo

I was going to say we should get Goosen here.

01;05;09;01 - 01;05;09;26

Tom Green

Oh, yeah. I'd love the.

01;05;09;26 - 01;05;10;14

Ron Zappolo

Game. He'd be.

01;05;10;21 - 01;05;12;10

Woody Paige

Great. He's it. Yeah.

01;05;12;12 - 01;05;20;18

Ron Zappolo

People who should get the baseball season starts off. We're still doing this. And let's have goose. He would be. Can you imagine, goose love it. About the love.

01;05;20;18 - 01;05;21;02

Tom Green

It.

01;05;21;05 - 01;05;39;28

Woody Paige

Yeah I, I said to him once, I said I look back and you didn't have a number when you're going into the Hall of Fame. I mean, you were 63. You were 19. You're. He said whenever I was going bad, I changed my number. It had changed his pitch. He changed the number on his back. If you go.

01;05;39;28 - 01;05;40;22

Woody Paige

I read up at.

01;05;40;22 - 01;05;59;10

Ron Zappolo

Oh, I remember talking to him. This is the same interview. And I said, did you ever fear anybody goes, no, I never fear anybody. I respected Jim Rice, but I feared no one. He goes after you fought Cliff Johnson in the locker room. You weren't afraid of a hitter. I was more of to Cliff Johnson.

01;05;59;10 - 01;06;01;12

Tom Green

Who broke their thumb in that fight. It was either.

01;06;01;19 - 01;06;03;14

Ron Zappolo

It was either Cliff Johnson, I think, or.

01;06;03;14 - 01;06;04;04

Tom Green

Glues. Yeah.

01;06;04;04 - 01;06;08;20

Woody Paige

I think they should bring him in the spring training. They should for two weeks. Just.

01;06;08;20 - 01;06;11;16

Ron Zappolo

That's after the get or go. Why not bring.

01;06;11;16 - 01;06;15;14

Tom Green

Him or take give $1 million to Pedro Martinez? Yes.

01;06;15;14 - 01;06;16;23

Ron Zappolo

To come in because he come in.

01;06;16;23 - 01;06;20;09

Tom Green

No, I don't think he is the single greatest pitcher.

01;06;20;11 - 01;06;25;29

Ron Zappolo

How many pitchers read the top of your head? And we can argue this guy. Well, I got the information.

01;06;25;29 - 01;06;30;22

Tom Green

Well, one of the other guys I'd bring in is one of his Maddux. Maddux would be a guy who could teach you a little bit about pitch love.

01;06;30;22 - 01;06;38;22

Ron Zappolo

Greg Maddux, Cy Young. Okay, Whitey Ford, Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson. Yeah, yeah, Pedro's right in that.

01;06;38;22 - 01;06;49;05

Tom Green

Oh, no. No, he's in the discussion, no doubt. Because I remember he threw a one hitter or two hitter at Coors Field when he was an expo. He threw a and it was the it was the most dominant game I ever saw.

01;06;49;05 - 01;07;11;09

Ron Zappolo

He was I got I was fortunate to see him pitch 7 or 8 times in person. I've never saw a guy who could throw three pitches for strikes at any time in the count. Yeah, that's hard to do. And his confidence out there, I saw that. I remember that game in Yankee Stadium in 97. Yeah. When you've seen a hit, a home run, I'm not sure you've seen, who was the outfielder?

01;07;11;11 - 01;07;13;21

Ron Zappolo

I can't remember, but it was he gave up one hit.

01;07;13;24 - 01;07;16;11

Woody Paige

If you one hit 70 games, how many games do you.

01;07;16;11 - 01;07;18;11

Speaker 4

Lose that way? Okay.

01;07;18;13 - 01;07;20;05

Tom Green

That's 92 LS.

01;07;20;07 - 01;07;20;25

Speaker 4

Oh, and.

01;07;20;25 - 01;07;22;11

Woody Paige

You're thinking that I'm just.

01;07;22;11 - 01;07;33;20

Ron Zappolo

I'll tell you what they got. What they got. They got. No, I know you're getting older. They got two chances of getting seven.

01;07;33;23 - 01;07;35;27

Tom Green

That is, going to wrap up this edition.

01;07;35;29 - 01;07;36;12

Ron Zappolo

Dawn.

01;07;36;17 - 01;07;40;01

Tom Green

Yeah, well, we always like to end on a high note, though.

01;07;40;01 - 01;07;42;03

Ron Zappolo

We ended on a goose note, which I thought was.

01;07;42;03 - 01;07;43;21

Woody Paige

See, you're saying that.

01;07;43;24 - 01;07;46;16

Ron Zappolo

Well, who do you like in the World baseball Classic?

01;07;46;18 - 01;07;48;06

Tom Green

Me. I always like the Dominican.

01;07;48;09 - 01;07;49;29

Woody Paige

Well, the the.

01;07;50;02 - 01;07;50;23

Ron Zappolo

I always kind of.

01;07;50;23 - 01;07;56;09

Woody Paige

I got the best odds but win it. Who's favored you know is.

01;07;56;09 - 01;07;56;20

Ron Zappolo

The US.

01;07;56;20 - 01;07;59;21

Woody Paige

Favorite. Yeah. Yeah. I always think big favor with me.

01;07;59;26 - 01;08;03;13

Tom Green

I haven't looked at the rosters closely enough. But I know the Dominican is going to be ready as well.

01;08;03;16 - 01;08;04;10

Ron Zappolo

But there's a lot.

01;08;04;10 - 01;08;05;28

Woody Paige

Of great players now Japan.

01;08;05;28 - 01;08;20;05

Tom Green

And second difference being I think the D.R., many of the Caribbean and Central American countries really want a win. And the Americans have oftentimes showed up like this is still spring training us.

01;08;20;05 - 01;08;20;23

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. That's right.

01;08;20;24 - 01;08;23;10

Tom Green

Japan has some intensity to they in the right about.

01;08;23;11 - 01;08;39;00

Ron Zappolo

Aaron Judge, the US captain got up there and made a pretty, impassioned speech to his teammates about, based off the Olympics and that that the world is going to be watching this and let's not screw around on this thing. And I gave Aaron Judge a lot of credit for that.

01;08;39;03 - 01;08;41;16

Tom Green

It'll be it'll be it'll be interesting fun to see though.

01;08;41;17 - 01;09;06;23

Ron Zappolo

And there's a lot of great thing about it. I never thought I'd get excited over a tournament in March. I kind of wish they would hold this tournament in a warm weather place, maybe in January or February in Hawaii, where everybody could go to can, because this is weird, where these guys have been in spring training for like a week now, they've all left their teams.

01;09;06;24 - 01;09;09;24

Tom Green

What about just taking three week break in the middle of the season?

01;09;09;26 - 01;09;16;21

Ron Zappolo

And you think the owners would go for that? And you think, how would they squeeze 162 and they'd be playing till Christmas.

01;09;16;24 - 01;09;18;12

Tom Green

Got us going to start earlier.

01;09;18;14 - 01;09;21;04

Ron Zappolo

You know I just think when Ohtani struck out trout.

01;09;21;06 - 01;09;22;14

Tom Green

Yeah that was big.

01;09;22;14 - 01;09;31;29

Ron Zappolo

That was big. That kind of put this thing over. And now I'm kind of I'm like, I know USA plays Brazil on Friday off. I'll take it in.

01;09;32;02 - 01;09;34;09

Tom Green

Well it's great to see competitive baseball.

01;09;34;09 - 01;09;45;06

Ron Zappolo

What's really cool too is like the Olympics. A lot of these guys that were born and raised in the States because their great grandmother grew up in wherever that's where they're, you know, signing up.

01;09;45;06 - 01;09;49;23

Woody Paige

Yeah, I don't know the name of it, but one of the Rockies is playing for Israel. Yeah.

01;09;49;26 - 01;09;57;13

Speaker 5

I think 12 Rockies total. Yeah. Going to be competing so well I mean they'll be competitive in their game has.

01;09;57;15 - 01;09;57;20

Woody Paige

I.

01;09;57;20 - 01;09;59;12

Ron Zappolo

Mean there's quite a few take the Rockies.

01;09;59;12 - 01;10;01;19

Woody Paige

Get to win. You want to.

01;10;01;19 - 01;10;02;23

Ron Zappolo

Get in on this.

01;10;02;25 - 01;10;04;11

Speaker 5

I.

01;10;04;14 - 01;10;06;26

Speaker 4

Okay.

01;10;06;28 - 01;10;07;26

Tom Green

Hey right behind Woody.

01;10;07;26 - 01;10;11;28

Speaker 5

You want to get yelled at by Ron. But I also I don't want to just go ahead and agree with.

01;10;11;28 - 01;10;17;17

Ron Zappolo

What you would. It's been a 45, 50 year love thing where we yell at each other.

01;10;17;19 - 01;10;20;29

Speaker 5

Right? And you have to be nice to me because I picked the a Tom board today.

01;10;21;03 - 01;10;21;13

Ron Zappolo

Oh, you.

01;10;21;13 - 01;10;22;12

Speaker 5

Did, instead of it coming.

01;10;22;13 - 01;10;31;26

Tom Green

For you. So the chalkboard that Natasha goes first right behind Woody, I want to read it for our listeners. It says when I cross my eyes, I can see Tom's point more clearly. You know, I.

01;10;31;26 - 01;10;32;20

Ron Zappolo

Like that because.

01;10;32;26 - 01;10;33;29

Speaker 4

It's not me.

01;10;34;01 - 01;10;44;05

Tom Green

You know, it's nice of Natasha to to pick the needle going into me this time. Oh, thanks as always. Great group, great chat. We will be back, of course, next week with another.

01;10;44;06 - 01;10;48;18

Woody Paige

Get a lot nastier were in the sketches, so I thought those were kind of like a.

01;10;48;21 - 01;10;50;10

Ron Zappolo

Oh, you know, you want me to bring it?

01;10;50;10 - 01;10;51;13

Woody Paige

Don't you know the Atlanta?

01;10;51;13 - 01;10;52;26

Ron Zappolo

You want me to sit here.

01;10;52;26 - 01;10;59;20

Woody Paige

And get you there before now? I think it's Atlanta that has outlawed Crocs. I think Skechers in there.

01;10;59;23 - 01;11;07;13

Tom Green

But this now these shoes these shoes are give him the all of the the tools you need to be a great linebacker. Never thought I just I.

01;11;07;13 - 01;11;12;14

Ron Zappolo

Never thought I quote John McEnroe but that was you cannot be serious. Do you remember that.

01;11;12;15 - 01;11;15;24

Tom Green

Those shoes have made you more agile, mobile and hostile?

01;11;15;25 - 01;11;17;01

Speaker 4

Yes. All that.

01;11;17;03 - 01;11;18;17

Tom Green

Like Jack Lambert.

01;11;18;19 - 01;11;26;16

Woody Paige

Oh, John McEnroe came to call pizza. They had this concept of where Skip Bayless and I were going to debate.

01;11;26;23 - 01;11;28;10

Tom Green

You know, the burning issue.

01;11;28;10 - 01;11;32;21

Woody Paige

And so they brought in John Elway, put in a like an umpire's chair.

01;11;32;24 - 01;11;33;15

Tom Green

Oh, McEnroe.

01;11;33;17 - 01;11;39;10

Woody Paige

Yeah. McEnroe. Yeah. Yeah. And he said it and was yelling at me.

01;11;39;13 - 01;11;40;12

Speaker 4

You were.

01;11;40;15 - 01;11;42;19

Woody Paige

Fighting. Go. How did you get out on the show.

01;11;42;19 - 01;12;06;23

Ron Zappolo

Why can I give you one quick I'm not sure. This was a long, long time ago, in the early 80s, the late Gary Cruz, God rest his soul. Gary and I played tennis at McNichols arena with John McEnroe and Venus Gary light us, and we were nervous as shit, and they were so nice. So it's McEnroe and I against Gary and Vasculitis.

01;12;06;25 - 01;12;22;22

Ron Zappolo

So McEnroe is ready to serve. There's a few thousand people, but not my knees or no. Yeah. McEnroe is ready to serve. And he walks up to me. I'm at the net and he goes. He looks at Cruz and he goes, do you like that guy over there? I go, he goes, okay, I'll take care of him.

01;12;22;24 - 01;12;44;11

Ron Zappolo

He throws a bullet by my ear that Gary couldn't get the racket back, and it was up in the air. And the whole place is laughing. So now it's my turn to better serve from Venus. Gary lies. God rest his soul, too. Yeah. And he pushes me way back. And so I go way back and he goes, that's not far enough.

01;12;44;13 - 01;12;59;17

Ron Zappolo

Further back I'm in the stands trying the two hand one right, and he hits a court serve that goes out 30ft in front of me. And everybody laughed. And McEnroe and Gary ladies were delightful that whole night.

01;12;59;23 - 01;13;07;13

Tom Green

Well, I love the two. Obviously, Venus, died far too young, but, McEnroe continues to be a great sport. Yes.

01;13;07;17 - 01;13;11;08

Woody Paige

What a great show this was. I didn't know that he loved obituaries as much.

01;13;11;12 - 01;13;12;01

Ron Zappolo

I didn't either.

01;13;12;01 - 01;13;12;13

Tom Green

I oh, my.

01;13;12;13 - 01;13;15;04

Ron Zappolo

God, all these years I lived with him. I didn't know you.

01;13;15;06 - 01;13;18;14

Tom Green

You always. You always read them. And you learn so much about somebody. You say, I should have known.

01;13;18;14 - 01;13;40;15

Woody Paige

And my years ago, my aunt, when I was writing obituaries at the Memphis Commercial Appeal. That was my job. My aunt came over on a Sunday and said, you know, I love your bitter was a read your obituary every day, and I'm going to like that. And she said, but I have a question. Why do people die in alphabetical order?

01;13;40;18 - 01;13;41;03

Speaker 4

Okay.

01;13;41;06 - 01;13;52;06

Tom Green
