Episode Summary

The Olympics take center stage as Woody Paige, Ron Zappolo and Tom Green break down the medal race, Mikaela Shiffrin’s pursuit of gold, and the mental pressure facing elite athletes. From US–Canada hockey to Denver’s salary cap flexibility, it’s a wide-ranging, opinionated edition of After the Horn.

Episode Notes

The guys open with Olympic storylines, including the medal race, US–Canada hockey anticipation, and standout athletes before diving into a deeper discussion about pressure, performance, and how athletes like Mikaela Shiffrin and Ilia Malinin handle the biggest stage. 00;00;02;03 - 00;00;32;25

Tom Green

coming up today we're going to break down the biathlon. Nobody breaks down the biathlon like Woody Page talking about the Broncos and free agency. We're also going to pay tribute to a couple of great Americans that we lost this week.

00;00;32;27 - 00;00;38;27

Ron Zappolo

Hi, everybody. After the horn, Woody Page, Tom Green runs a polo. We're all happy to be here.

00;00;38;29 - 00;00;46;22

Tom Green

Yes, well, we're also happy that our friends at Furniture Row have provided us with these comfy places to sit at our tables to, to house our plants.

00;00;46;22 - 00;00;47;21

Ron Zappolo

So get out of the way.

00;00;47;23 - 00;00;53;14

Tom Green

As always, we want to thank our friends at Furniture Row for for making our place so, so lovely.

00;00;53;16 - 00;00;56;11

Woody Paige

I'm laughing because rod said, I think I'll put two plants.

00;00;56;11 - 00;00;57;00

Speaker 3

Oh yeah?

00;00;57;02 - 00;01;04;00

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, you know what? Before we started, because Woody and I have a joke. I said, Woody, let's do one, let's do two. It's really make it shake.

00;01;04;00 - 00;01;06;16

Woody Paige

And people at home to send us something?

00;01;06;16 - 00;01;07;03

Speaker 3

Yes.

00;01;07;08 - 00;01;15;13

Woody Paige

Send it to us. Careful what you wish for us, but, bring it by my house if you want to, of something that we can put on the coffee table.

00;01;15;13 - 00;01;22;11

Tom Green

So here we are, mid Olympics and, the metals race. What is one you've been keeping an eye on?

00;01;22;14 - 00;01;32;27

Woody Paige

This is really important to me. And there's three countries involved that I feel close to Norway. I was there for the Olympics and I love Norwegians. They are the they're the most.

00;01;33;00 - 00;01;37;16

Ron Zappolo

As somebody once famously said, why can't we get more people from Norway in this country?

00;01;37;16 - 00;01;40;02

Speaker 3

Yeah. Okay. Go ahead. Yeah.

00;01;40;04 - 00;01;47;18

Woody Paige

Every one of them a every one of them is beautiful. The men are beautiful.

00;01;47;21 - 00;01;49;04

Tom Green

It's 100%.

00;01;49;04 - 00;02;08;01

Woody Paige

Secondly, they speak English better than we do. There's that because they have to take 5 or 6 years of English, like we take Spanish or whatever. And the third thing I found out when I was over there for the Olympics, I'd say, have you ever been the United States? They have to serve one year, either in the military or at Disneyland.

00;02;08;03 - 00;02;10;22

Speaker 3

But the truth. And so every one of them.

00;02;10;22 - 00;02;17;28

Woody Paige

Would tell me, I chose Disney World over military choice. That that. So I love Norway.

00;02;17;29 - 00;02;19;05

Ron Zappolo

How about their first?

00;02;19;07 - 00;02;33;06

Woody Paige

Italy is second and they should win. They put all the, congressmen and man, I'm watching beautiful. They know Iceland. We've all been to Italy. If not, that's your mistake.

00;02;33;09 - 00;02;36;26

Ron Zappolo

But look at me. I've been six times.

00;02;36;28 - 00;02;38;24

Woody Paige

What is your favorite city?

00;02;38;27 - 00;02;55;25

Ron Zappolo

I can tell you right now, I like southern Italy. I like flying down to to go to Palermo in Sicily, which I think is the most beautiful place in the world I've enjoyed. Rome. Milan is like going to New York. Venice is great. There's a million other.

00;02;55;27 - 00;02;57;13

Tom Green

I like Florence, Florence.

00;02;57;13 - 00;02;58;21

Speaker 3

Florence, Florence.

00;02;58;24 - 00;03;01;00

Woody Paige

Look for. It's Harry's Cafe on the river.

00;03;01;00 - 00;03;02;18

Ron Zappolo

I'm a Palermo guy. I just have.

00;03;02;18 - 00;03;04;03

Speaker 3

You know, Stone Street.

00;03;04;03 - 00;03;10;25

Woody Paige

Tell you what the problem is. Italy. There's a good side. They have the greatest McDonald's in the world. You're really what I'm saying?

00;03;10;29 - 00;03;12;02

Ron Zappolo

No, Woodrow.

00;03;12;02 - 00;03;12;18

Woody Paige

It is.

00;03;12;22 - 00;03;16;04

Ron Zappolo

We don't go to McDonald's in Italy, but it's the best.

00;03;16;04 - 00;03;21;04

Woody Paige

For us, okay? It's difficult to find a bathroom somewhere.

00;03;21;07 - 00;03;23;22

Tom Green

But if you go to Palermo, he's your guy. You got a guy?

00;03;23;22 - 00;03;25;16

Ron Zappolo

Well, I got it. You got it. You got.

00;03;25;16 - 00;03;27;05

Speaker 3

A guy.

00;03;27;07 - 00;03;30;03

Ron Zappolo

He's your so inside joke. Got a guy.

00;03;30;03 - 00;03;43;00

Woody Paige

But I would like to see Italy overtake Norway. And third is the United States. I'm going. Yeah. We're not having, you know what the World Series is called. What is what is the title of the World Series?

00;03;43;00 - 00;03;43;13

Ron Zappolo

The World.

00;03;43;13 - 00;03;44;29

Woody Paige

Series now. But it's called the fall.

00;03;44;29 - 00;03;46;20

Speaker 3

Class for class. The Fall.

00;03;46;20 - 00;03;49;25

Woody Paige

Classic is what's happening with the.

00;03;49;27 - 00;03;50;22

Speaker 3

Class.

00;03;50;24 - 00;03;55;20

Woody Paige

Everybody is falling down. I mean, they're falling down on the hills. They're falling down on the ice. They're falling.

00;03;55;20 - 00;04;00;02

Ron Zappolo

Down. Can I give you one more? But I just think it hasn't been now yet. It's not over yet.

00;04;00;02 - 00;04;03;02

Speaker 3

Yeah. I don't think it's been that compelling.

00;04;03;05 - 00;04;08;00

Tom Green

There have been moments like. Like every Olympiad in it's created some stars.

00;04;08;02 - 00;04;18;18

Ron Zappolo

But the US, Canada, men's hockey and women's. That in the women too. Yeah, but especially the men because we're so familiar with everybody. That'll be on the ice. And it's.

00;04;18;18 - 00;04;20;05

Tom Green

You got to get there first.

00;04;20;07 - 00;04;22;03

Ron Zappolo

True, but I would be.

00;04;22;05 - 00;04;23;13

Speaker 3

Stunned.

00;04;23;15 - 00;04;25;13

Ron Zappolo

If either one of them got knocked off.

00;04;25;14 - 00;04;44;15

Tom Green

I think because it is set now, the US, against Canada in the women's final, we can talk about that directly. And the American team has mowed everyone down, including Canada, on their way to the gold medal game. Canada, without their legendary star, Murray Philip Poulin, who will play in the gold medal game. But, they're on a run.

00;04;44;15 - 00;04;50;29

Tom Green

When you talk about maybe some Americans falling and failing the American hockey team has outscored everyone 31 to 1.

00;04;50;29 - 00;04;54;25

Ron Zappolo

Americans never fall and fail. Americans are perfect.

00;04;54;27 - 00;04;55;18

Speaker 3

We're falling.

00;04;55;18 - 00;04;59;18

Woody Paige

In speedskating. We're doing American ice skating.

00;04;59;18 - 00;05;01;05

Speaker 5

We're in democracy.

00;05;01;05 - 00;05;07;02

Ron Zappolo

America's the best, right? Right. Natasha? Americans. Everybody's better than everybody else. And then there's the.

00;05;07;02 - 00;05;10;10

Speaker 5

Number one in everything, right? Well, that's what they they tell us, you.

00;05;10;10 - 00;05;19;14

Ron Zappolo

Know, as, as, what they famously said, an easy rider, a great film before your time, America. Love it or leave it.

00;05;19;17 - 00;05;20;13

Speaker 3

There you go.

00;05;20;16 - 00;05;22;05

Tom Green

Going back. Going back away.

00;05;22;05 - 00;05;23;16

Ron Zappolo

What a great film that was, though.

00;05;23;16 - 00;05;24;16

Tom Green

Well.

00;05;24;18 - 00;05;34;29

Ron Zappolo

I think about a Jack Nicholson in his first role, Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda. Pretty good. Now only Jack is left. But, what a great film.

00;05;34;29 - 00;05;37;12

Woody Paige

They used to play golf with Dennis Hopper in Hawaii.

00;05;37;12 - 00;05;38;17

Tom Green

What was that like?

00;05;38;17 - 00;05;41;12

Ron Zappolo

Because that's the story about. That might be fun.

00;05;41;16 - 00;06;03;23

Woody Paige

I actually met his wife on a plane. She she liked horses, and she would come to Colorado and buy horses. And I was on a plane when Detroit was playing the avalanche in the playoffs. And she was from Detroit. She was in, 3 or 4 movies with, okay, this Hopper Hopper, I thought, played a great part in Hoosiers.

00;06;03;25 - 00;06;04;28

Speaker 3

Oh, yeah. Yeah.

00;06;05;01 - 00;06;09;24

Woody Paige

He had a lot of good parts, but people remembered just the one,

00;06;09;26 - 00;06;11;11

Ron Zappolo

Great news.

00;06;11;13 - 00;06;22;18

Woody Paige

I said this at the Super Bowl in Ford 48. I interviewed Kevin Costner, and I was talking about I said I loved Waterworld, and I was the only person in the whole.

00;06;22;18 - 00;06;25;06

Speaker 3

World say, yeah.

00;06;25;12 - 00;06;39;08

Woody Paige

But the point was. And I said, I was over there when you were making Waterworld, and I was staying at the Monica Beach, same place where most of the actors were staying. And I said I was on the golf course and on the practice tee, and this guy comes up to me and said, you got a game? And I said, no.

00;06;39;08 - 00;06;53;17

Woody Paige

And I turn around and said, are you Dennis Hopper? And he said, yeah. I said, what are you doing here? He said, I'm, I'm the villain in Waterworld. If you remember the movie, at the peak, few people have watched it. And he said, you want to play? And I said, yeah. And he said, how long are you going to be here?

00;06;53;17 - 00;07;09;06

Woody Paige

I said, I'm to two weeks. And he said, I'm going to be here about two weeks doing this when I'm not doing the movie. Would you like to play golf? Yeah. He wasn't. He was about like me. I was like 15 or 16 and that's about what he was. And so when I interviewed Costner just got a good idea.

00;07;09;09 - 00;07;21;12

Woody Paige

I said I was playing with your villain, the villain in Waterworld, and he said, how often were you playing? I said, but every other day, he said, we were looking for him all fighting.

00;07;21;14 - 00;07;23;09

Speaker 3

I'm guessing that's a secret for me.

00;07;23;17 - 00;07;25;11

Woody Paige

Plays golf with you, watch Waterworld?

00;07;25;11 - 00;07;26;10

Tom Green

No, I never saw.

00;07;26;13 - 00;07;30;03

Ron Zappolo

I actually did you not in the theater, but you know, on.

00;07;30;03 - 00;07;33;11

Woody Paige

Cast, the customer had ears. Yeah. The the head. Yeah.

00;07;33;11 - 00;07;37;28

Ron Zappolo

I remember was the female lead wasn't it. No I do, Jean Tripplehorn.

00;07;37;29 - 00;07;42;21

Tom Green

Oh, sure. Sure, I know that. Remember the name. So while we're doing this since we moved off the Olympics.

00;07;42;21 - 00;07;43;15

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. But you know, we.

00;07;43;15 - 00;07;44;01

Woody Paige

Were talking about how.

00;07;44;07 - 00;07;45;24

Ron Zappolo

Justifiably, I think.

00;07;45;24 - 00;08;05;26

Tom Green

But I want to I want to, since we're talking movies and people. I mean, Robert Duvall's, passing this week really impacted me because I started to go down the list. And it's an incredible list that his character is in almost every movie he was in. And many of my great films were indelible. So I looked and started to go to the movies.

00;08;05;26 - 00;08;28;10

Tom Green

We all know The Godfather and, you know, you just think of these, these classic films. He was such a big part of. But there was a movie he made in the early 80s with Robert DeNiro called True Confessions, where he plays a hard ass Los Angeles police detective Tom spell. And I just remember, I mean, Robert Duvall just took parts and just owned them.

00;08;28;11 - 00;08;52;16

Ron Zappolo

I thought he was an actor's actor. No, I thought he was one of the most underrated actors of his generation. And when I think of his career, just like you and I think of the films, a lot of the films, he was so understated because he figured out, like he played Tom Hagen perfectly, because he looked at Brando and Pacino and said, these guys are bigger than life.

00;08;52;23 - 00;09;10;20

Ron Zappolo

They can't have another bigger than life guy. And he understated it. And I went back a few weeks ago and watched The Godfather. He was brilliant. And you know the other thing about him, Woody, he uttered one of the most famous lines in cinematic history. I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

00;09;10;20 - 00;09;15;11

Tom Green

Oh yeah? How? But how long was he actually in Apocalypse Now? But he kind of. You remember.

00;09;15;11 - 00;09;16;19

Speaker 3

Him, but you remember.

00;09;16;19 - 00;09;18;23

Woody Paige

He's only in there for about ten minutes.

00;09;18;28 - 00;09;23;24

Ron Zappolo

Right? But I remember him still. Tender mercies are lonesome Dove.

00;09;23;24 - 00;09;24;24

Tom Green

But that's how I was going to say.

00;09;24;24 - 00;09;34;18

Woody Paige

Since you said that. What was that? We were just talking about God. But he did a little interest movie about God off of,

00;09;34;20 - 00;09;35;09

Tom Green

You know, later.

00;09;35;09 - 00;09;36;00

Ron Zappolo

Later in his.

00;09;36;00 - 00;09;52;24

Woody Paige

Career, and I don't remember the name of it, but it was about a guy that nobody knew. And he was it was a talk about understated. You're right. Because he wouldn't do Godfather three. Yeah. Don't ask about it. He said no, it was money. You said they were paying the other guy.

00;09;52;25 - 00;09;53;21

Ron Zappolo

They didn't want to pay me.

00;09;53;21 - 00;09;54;18

Woody Paige

And they didn't want to pay for.

00;09;54;18 - 00;09;56;08

Speaker 3

Love it, love it. So he walked.

00;09;56;08 - 00;09;59;29

Woody Paige

Away from The Godfather trilogy because he said they didn't pay.

00;10;00;01 - 00;10;09;20

Tom Green

Me. He reminds me also of evolving into doing, more comedy because he could play that hard ass, could play anything. And like, I remember kicking.

00;10;09;20 - 00;10;10;21

Speaker 5

And screaming.

00;10;10;23 - 00;10;11;15

Tom Green

And kicking and.

00;10;11;15 - 00;10;13;05

Speaker 3

Screaming, please play.

00;10;13;09 - 00;10;14;17

Tom Green

Will Ferrell's dad. I know.

00;10;14;19 - 00;10;16;06

Woody Paige

But he also did great.

00;10;16;09 - 00;10;17;16

Speaker 5

Well, that's a sport some for.

00;10;17;16 - 00;10;21;21

Woody Paige

You is talking about. Is he crossed so many generations? Yeah.

00;10;21;21 - 00;10;22;04

Speaker 5

Oh, yeah.

00;10;22;04 - 00;10;42;09

Woody Paige

You know, a lot of people you'd say Carey drive. You're talking about Cary Grant. You say Cary Grant to people like Natasha. Nicole. I don't know him, but Robert Duvall crossed so many because he was. Would playing serious parts in great movies? Yeah, like The Godfather. And he was playing funny parts in. Yeah, all these sitcoms that came along.

00;10;42;14 - 00;10;56;27

Ron Zappolo

I read an obituary about him last night and just just touch me. I don't know if it was his wife or Senate or somebody else, but they said his favorite things were a great meal and holding court. Yeah. And I thought that would be a fun guy.

00;10;56;29 - 00;10;58;00

Woody Paige

He was in the first to.

00;10;58;00 - 00;10;58;18

Ron Zappolo

Be around.

00;10;58;18 - 00;11;00;25

Woody Paige

Jack Reacher movie, wasn't he? With Tom?

00;11;00;25 - 00;11;01;27

Tom Green

He might have been, yes.

00;11;01;27 - 00;11;04;17

Ron Zappolo

And his wife. I'm waiting for you. Play the guy that.

00;11;04;20 - 00;11;07;04

Speaker 3

Yeah, he had a small part in that.

00;11;07;11 - 00;11;10;22

Woody Paige

In that first Jack Reacher movie with Tom cruise.

00;11;10;22 - 00;11;11;20

Tom Green

Oh, yeah? Yeah. No, I.

00;11;11;20 - 00;11;12;04

Woody Paige

Remember he.

00;11;12;04 - 00;11;13;17

Speaker 3

Owned,

00;11;13;20 - 00;11;14;19

Woody Paige

Shooting.

00;11;14;21 - 00;11;15;05

Tom Green

Range.

00;11;15;05 - 00;11;23;05

Woody Paige

Rage. Yeah. So he comes out of that and saves Tom cruise at the end of that movie, because he's sitting up on the hill.

00;11;23;07 - 00;11;27;04

Tom Green

Well, it's a good thing they cast him because some other guy wouldn't have been able to save Tom cruise.

00;11;27;05 - 00;11;27;29

Woody Paige

And we were talking.

00;11;28;02 - 00;11;29;20

Tom Green

About no good.

00;11;29;22 - 00;11;30;03

Ron Zappolo

Robert.

00;11;30;06 - 00;11;37;19

Woody Paige

Robert Duvall was one of the great actors. Yeah. I don't know that he's totally recognized for being as great as he really was.

00;11;37;21 - 00;11;41;06

Ron Zappolo

Because he's not. Because you know what? He's not a leading man, and we don't.

00;11;41;13 - 00;11;44;28

Tom Green

He was the other guy in. So many movies. But.

00;11;45;01 - 00;11;57;03

Woody Paige

And the other directors, Jesse Jackson became, I tweeted today we were friends for like 50 years. And people go, you and Jesse Jackson, you know, you were, you know, southern cracker.

00;11;57;09 - 00;12;00;06

Tom Green

Sadly, you go back to Tennessee together.

00;12;00;09 - 00;12;19;23

Woody Paige

We I was covering the assassination of Doctor King, and he was his number one guy. And we were both about the same age in our 20s. And we remained friends. And when the Broncos were in the Super Bowl in New York, I know people don't want to remember that experience, but Jesse and I reunited and we were together like what we were talking about early.

00;12;19;26 - 00;12;34;05

Woody Paige

We were having drinks. He'd come on the radio show with me, and we were talking all week about the history of civil rights and the history of sports. He's a big sports fan, and, that's an incredible loss. Jesse Jackson.

00;12;34;05 - 00;12;40;18

Ron Zappolo

You can't write the, you can't write the history or the story of civil rights in this country.

00;12;40;21 - 00;12;42;04

Woody Paige

Without a president twice.

00;12;42;04 - 00;12;43;22

Ron Zappolo

Without mentioning Jesse.

00;12;43;22 - 00;12;44;07

Speaker 3

Jackson. Yeah.

00;12;44;12 - 00;12;56;27

Tom Green

So will you talk about, you know, Duvall in a different way? Of course, Jesse Jackson. But, you know, when you leave the Earth, do you leave some sort of a footprint? And those two guys, they did some huge.

00;12;56;27 - 00;13;12;14

Woody Paige

And I hope the show lasts long enough so that you guys are talking about me like, yeah, we're talking about Robert Duvall with Jesse Jackson. You'll say, well, you know, he changed, he changed the parameters of. And then he'll say, no, he didn't.

00;13;12;16 - 00;13;13;08

Speaker 3

And maybe.

00;13;13;08 - 00;13;14;03

Tom Green

I guess if you.

00;13;14;05 - 00;13;14;19

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;13;14;21 - 00;13;18;09

Woody Paige

When he was the first guy in the history of Colorado, I'd say I got a guy.

00;13;18;11 - 00;13;22;07

Speaker 3

I got a guy, I got a guy I know, a guy got a guy's got a guy. Something like.

00;13;22;07 - 00;13;23;14

Ron Zappolo

That. I don't want to see your guy.

00;13;23;14 - 00;13;28;28

Woody Paige

I don't know how we drifted away from the Olympics. Yeah. Talk about good with good. You want to talk about.

00;13;28;29 - 00;13;54;08

Tom Green

But I want to drift back in because that men's hockey match that if it does, in fact, come to the United States and Canada. And for avalanche fans, it's it's been spectacular to watch the tournament because the avalanche have been shining for all their teams. But I would say whereas the American women are hefty favorites against the Canadian women in the gold medal match, I'd say if you get the Americans and Canadians that Canadian team is likely not to be as heavy a favorite, but a solid.

00;13;54;08 - 00;13;56;11

Ron Zappolo

They'll be a favorite. Yeah, they're better team.

00;13;56;15 - 00;14;03;14

Woody Paige

How many players? Here's a trivia question for you. That's modern day. How many avalanche players are in the Olympics?

00;14;03;14 - 00;14;03;26

Tom Green

Eight.

00;14;04;03 - 00;14;04;16

Ron Zappolo

Eight.

00;14;04;16 - 00;14;05;17

Woody Paige

I don't see how.

00;14;05;17 - 00;14;13;20

Ron Zappolo

You texted something last night, which you had a bunch of great ideas. Who is your favorite Olympic athlete to this point.

00;14;13;23 - 00;14;14;25

Woody Paige

In this Olympics?

00;14;14;25 - 00;14;15;11

Speaker 3

Yes.

00;14;15;13 - 00;14;17;28

Woody Paige

Jordan shots the speed skater.

00;14;18;02 - 00;14;18;13

Ron Zappolo

Okay.

00;14;18;13 - 00;14;29;00

Woody Paige

He is the only guy that's just totally. He is. He is so good. And he talks like the guy who won it was the quarterback, right?

00;14;29;00 - 00;14;29;11

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;14;29;11 - 00;14;30;23

Tom Green

Oh Fernando Mendoza.

00;14;30;26 - 00;14;31;13

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;14;31;15 - 00;14;35;16

Woody Paige

And he and all of the speed skaters. Bonnie Blair remember her.

00;14;35;18 - 00;14;35;27

Tom Green

Own.

00;14;35;27 - 00;14;38;00

Woody Paige

Course. Bonnie Blair and.

00;14;38;00 - 00;14;39;07

Tom Green

And Eric Heiden.

00;14;39;07 - 00;14;47;06

Woody Paige

And Dan Charles fell down all the time. And, but we're all falling. I just like he's a they're all from Wisconsin.

00;14;47;09 - 00;14;48;09

Speaker 3

Yes, Wisconsin.

00;14;48;09 - 00;14;51;00

Woody Paige

West Allis is speed skating. Oh, I just.

00;14;51;00 - 00;14;53;13

Ron Zappolo

Forgot a Robert Duvall movie. You just reminded.

00;14;53;13 - 00;14;54;27

Tom Green

Me. I was going to say you two.

00;14;54;29 - 00;14;55;28

Ron Zappolo

You said falling.

00;14;55;28 - 00;14;57;24

Tom Green

Down. Yeah, he was in that with Michael Dunn.

00;14;57;24 - 00;15;01;14

Ron Zappolo

He was in that with Michael Douglas. Oh, he was great.

00;15;01;16 - 00;15;06;24

Woody Paige

The father, he he made the miserable father. And, he. But that army guy.

00;15;06;26 - 00;15;08;02

Ron Zappolo

Oh, the great Santini.

00;15;08;07 - 00;15;08;29

Tom Green

Santini there.

00;15;09;00 - 00;15;14;18

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, I know what he brought. He said that he based it, which is amazing. On his own father?

00;15;14;20 - 00;15;16;18

Woody Paige

Yeah, his father treated him like crap.

00;15;16;18 - 00;15;19;05

Ron Zappolo

You ever see that movie? Yes. Oh, my God.

00;15;19;06 - 00;15;20;00

Tom Green

Did his father see.

00;15;20;00 - 00;15;22;02

Speaker 3

Them? Well, I don't know.

00;15;22;05 - 00;15;24;02

Ron Zappolo

I'm assuming his dad's been long gone.

00;15;24;02 - 00;15;26;11

Woody Paige

Was it? You could go through the litany? Yeah.

00;15;26;12 - 00;15;27;04

Ron Zappolo

There's so many.

00;15;27;04 - 00;15;35;11

Woody Paige

It'll keep you. You go. Really? That he was in that. Yeah, but he was never, in The Great Santini. He he actually was the lead character.

00;15;35;11 - 00;15;35;18

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;15;35;18 - 00;15;37;11

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, yeah. You played.

00;15;37;13 - 00;15;54;04

Woody Paige

But, these are great. Anyway, I picked out that I like the, I was, I have a friend, I'll say her, and she said, we're watching the giant slalom, and she goes, well, that's a long way down. I said, that's why it's called the Giants.

00;15;54;09 - 00;15;55;12

Speaker 3

Oh.

00;15;55;15 - 00;15;57;03

Woody Paige

I said, the one that goes down shorter.

00;15;57;04 - 00;15;58;03

Speaker 3

You might call.

00;15;58;04 - 00;15;58;22

Woody Paige

The slalom.

00;15;58;24 - 00;16;00;23

Ron Zappolo

Your favorite athlete.

00;16;00;26 - 00;16;08;03

Tom Green

None have stood out tonight, to be honest. I mean, I've enjoyed each each night, each story. But it's not like one said, oh, my, I need to know more about him or her.

00;16;08;03 - 00;16;19;09

Ron Zappolo

And I got to be honest, I haven't watched very much. But my favorite athlete, I'd have to go with Tom Wilson. Oh, the guy who defended Nolan Arenado. I think he's number one. No.

00;16;19;11 - 00;16;20;06

Tom Green

Nathan MacKinnon.

00;16;20;12 - 00;16;26;00

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. Either Nathan Nolan or not a see him again.

00;16;26;03 - 00;16;27;13

Tom Green

But he might also.

00;16;27;15 - 00;16;29;17

Speaker 3

Might have said something about Nolan Arenado too.

00;16;29;17 - 00;16;30;13

Tom Green

That got under Tom.

00;16;30;13 - 00;16;30;20

Speaker 3

Wilson.

00;16;30;27 - 00;16;34;22

Woody Paige

And after you talked about Adorno, he talked about Chris Bright.

00;16;34;28 - 00;16;35;12

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;16;35;12 - 00;16;40;14

Woody Paige

Exactly who we found. While we were talking last week, they put him on a 60 day.

00;16;40;20 - 00;16;40;25

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;16;40;25 - 00;16;42;15

Woody Paige

They did. He got hurt watching the show.

00;16;42;17 - 00;16;45;13

Ron Zappolo

The athlete that's been kind of that I, you know, that I've.

00;16;45;13 - 00;16;46;11

Woody Paige

Read I gave you one.

00;16;46;11 - 00;16;47;25

Ron Zappolo

Anyway I Eileen GU.

00;16;48;03 - 00;16;48;27

Tom Green

Oh yeah. Yeah.

00;16;49;00 - 00;16;57;22

Ron Zappolo

Pretty interesting story about how she grew up here. She goes to Stanford and she's competing for China in,

00;16;57;25 - 00;16;58;19

Tom Green

For her mother.

00;16;58;19 - 00;17;06;27

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, for her mother, who's Chinese. And she's made a ton of dough. I didn't realize till I read a story about her. She was in the Beijing Games and.

00;17;06;29 - 00;17;13;29

Tom Green

They made $23 million. Yes and yes, but. But no. No gold yet. No gold. Yes. But, hey.

00;17;14;01 - 00;17;19;13

Ron Zappolo

There's no guarantees for gold. You know what you said? We fall down a lot. And that does.

00;17;19;18 - 00;17;26;11

Woody Paige

Bernard seem to do that. But I also I would throw in and I don't know his name, but the guy who's representing Brazil, who's actually.

00;17;26;12 - 00;17;27;26

Tom Green

Oh, yeah, Norway won and.

00;17;27;26 - 00;17;36;01

Woody Paige

His mother's from Brazil. And he does dances and he, he's got a, a personality dances unlike anything since the great Tama.

00;17;36;06 - 00;17;59;16

Tom Green

So, speaking of great skiers, aside from ourselves, Alberto Tomba and the like, Mikaela Shiffrin is is such an open book. She will tell you what she's feeling and what she's thinking, and she shares her life and her ups and downs very much. And the Olympics have always been a thing for her, but a struggle for her. She has won at the Olympics, but this year she's looking for it.

00;17;59;17 - 00;18;08;21

Tom Green

The women's slalom. Her event is coming up and I think it would be at this point to many surprising if she won.

00;18;08;23 - 00;18;10;06

Woody Paige

She is the greatest woman.

00;18;10;06 - 00;18;11;17

Ron Zappolo

Skier here in the history of.

00;18;11;17 - 00;18;29;12

Woody Paige

The United States, and probably in the world because of the number of victories she's had in World Cup kind of achievements. But she has really struggled and I thought about her last night watching one of the events, and I'm watching a lot of Simone Biles was, her husband, the former Jonathan.

00;18;29;12 - 00;18;30;11

Speaker 3

Oh yeah.

00;18;30;14 - 00;18;48;28

Woody Paige

And they were in and I remember when she went through what, the twisties. And I think that, for a lot of American women athletes that they go through more,

00;18;49;00 - 00;19;00;21

Woody Paige

Issues. I don't know how to describe this. I don't want to say mental health issues. That's too strong. But they go through, they get on a big stage like this, and they just really have some struggles. So I think.

00;19;00;21 - 00;19;02;29

Tom Green

They face a lot more external.

00;19;03;01 - 00;19;04;17

Speaker 3

Pressure. Yeah. Oh, woman.

00;19;04;23 - 00;19;05;28

Speaker 5

Is more difficult.

00;19;05;28 - 00;19;13;23

Woody Paige

Yeah. That a guy's not getting it like, not getting the feedback for some reason because we don't expect.

00;19;13;23 - 00;19;18;26

Ron Zappolo

And women always have the harder road. Yeah. Just about everything.

00;19;18;26 - 00;19;22;11

Tom Green

Skiing uphill is hard. Although we saw that one cross-country guy.

00;19;22;14 - 00;19;23;28

Ron Zappolo

You know, not watching a lot of.

00;19;24;00 - 00;19;27;17

Woody Paige

Guys trying to come back from last week when so many people hated.

00;19;27;19 - 00;19;28;04

Speaker 3

You said.

00;19;28;04 - 00;19;28;17

Woody Paige

Last week.

00;19;28;17 - 00;19;35;17

Ron Zappolo

No, no, no, I'm proud to say there were a lot of people that liked it and a few people that didn't. And I said, I welcome you.

00;19;35;18 - 00;19;38;23

Woody Paige

I didn't, I didn't see the people that liked it. We're just like.

00;19;38;28 - 00;19;40;02

Ron Zappolo

Listen, I did a lot.

00;19;40;03 - 00;19;45;15

Woody Paige

I got I saw how were people picking on me for what you said? That's what so maybe it's.

00;19;45;19 - 00;20;09;02

Ron Zappolo

Hey, I'm taking up your role. I didn't watch the Olympics last night. I watched the Houston Iowa State basketball game, which was absolutely incredible. And I'm an NBA fan. But I got to admit, this particular season in college basketball has been sensational. And while we're at it, a shout out to see you who went into, BYU went to BYU the other day.

00;20;09;04 - 00;20;22;22

Ron Zappolo

I want to say they were, 16, 17, 18 point underdog. Played their asses off. Should have won the game. Lost in overtime. They were down of gas. But, you know, Ted Boyle's playing a bunch of kids. They're doing a good job.

00;20;22;24 - 00;20;27;19

Woody Paige

Do you find it task? Yeah, and I like him. I've liked him since he was in high school.

00;20;27;20 - 00;20;28;22

Ron Zappolo

Yeah.

00;20;28;24 - 00;20;43;11

Woody Paige

That he people. Except what he. If he's having a bad year. Nobody trying to run him off. Nobody's trying to nobody criticizes him to an extent that we see about the football. But is that.

00;20;43;11 - 00;20;47;18

Tom Green

A lack of expectations? They live with that as a as a no. One knows football.

00;20;47;23 - 00;20;50;09

Woody Paige

And when I say one of us, he grew up in Colorado.

00;20;50;10 - 00;20;51;04

Ron Zappolo

He went to Greeley.

00;20;51;04 - 00;21;03;17

Woody Paige

Central. Good guy, great college player or good college player at Kansas. Has to a difficult place to recruit. He has.

00;21;03;19 - 00;21;04;21

Ron Zappolo

Done it.

00;21;04;23 - 00;21;06;25

Woody Paige

To Chauncey Billups of the world and.

00;21;06;25 - 00;21;08;13

Tom Green

Well, Chauncey was Ricardo Patton.

00;21;08;19 - 00;21;09;24

Woody Paige

Was, you know, before he.

00;21;09;24 - 00;21;10;17

Tom Green

Recruited him.

00;21;10;17 - 00;21;17;24

Woody Paige

But thank you. I was be corrected. But he's put, he's done getting better. So yeah, I mean, he's.

00;21;18;00 - 00;21;18;14

Tom Green

Oh 7.

00;21;18;14 - 00;21;20;20

Woody Paige

Or 8, nine players that.

00;21;20;20 - 00;21;38;00

Ron Zappolo

He's. Yes. And he's been great about that. Woody. That's a great point because he has consistently said, I'm not going to lie to a kid if he's got NBA ability, could it help me if the kid would stay? Certainly. But if a kid's got a chance to be a first round pick and make a lot of money, I always tell him to go.

00;21;38;04 - 00;21;57;19

Ron Zappolo

And I respect that. And I like him, too. And it makes me feel old because I remember when I was working at channel four, I remember with Dave Logan, he and I doing the high school basketball playoffs at McNichols Sports Arena and doing a game involving the in the five day finals, Tad Boyle.

00;21;57;21 - 00;21;58;28

Tom Green

So today it's.

00;21;58;28 - 00;21;59;27

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. But it makeshift.

00;21;59;28 - 00;22;07;06

Tom Green

He had as I remember he had because now he doesn't have a great deal of hair and not too much rock and a bit of a pull back.

00;22;07;06 - 00;22;17;12

Ron Zappolo

And it's funny, we're talking about Ted. I think he's been an underrated coach. I think there was a time when he could have gone to UCLA and wanted to stay at See You.

00;22;17;14 - 00;22;30;17

Tom Green

And that's the thing you got to remember. If you're C you if you go and get, you know, we watch Nico Medved go to CSU and really get that program going. But it be you become a stepping stone job for Nico was wanting to go to Minnesota.

00;22;30;17 - 00;22;42;20

Woody Paige

Out to Colorado. We don't talk much about it. Look at the three of us. We didn't come from here. We're not born here. Nope. But we drifted away. Are we in other places? We.

00;22;42;22 - 00;22;43;11

Ron Zappolo

And we like it.

00;22;43;11 - 00;22;53;25

Woody Paige

I think I just read a, a report saying that Colorado is losing more people for the first time in years. Where are you going, people? Where?

00;22;53;26 - 00;22;55;13

Tom Green

I think they'd be more dangerous places.

00;22;55;14 - 00;22;58;23

Speaker 5

The affordability, above anything else.

00;22;58;26 - 00;22;59;14

Ron Zappolo

That might just.

00;22;59;14 - 00;23;00;12

Speaker 5

Be priced out of.

00;23;00;13 - 00;23;01;21

Woody Paige

Here. Are they going.

00;23;01;22 - 00;23;02;24

Ron Zappolo

In somewhere that's more.

00;23;02;24 - 00;23;07;13

Speaker 5

Affordable? Arizona. Texas place? Yeah. Somewhere where? Oh, even.

00;23;07;13 - 00;23;12;27

Woody Paige

Why? Okay, my second question. Why are they going to those places? I mean.

00;23;12;29 - 00;23;19;22

Speaker 5

Because they can't afford to live here. I know you as a rich older person.

00;23;19;24 - 00;23;21;07

Speaker 3

There's little.

00;23;21;09 - 00;23;22;25

Ron Zappolo

Let's just sit here and listen.

00;23;22;26 - 00;23;24;07

Woody Paige

Rich elder person.

00;23;24;07 - 00;23;26;11

Speaker 3

Rich elder person. You know.

00;23;26;11 - 00;23;27;07

Ron Zappolo

What he I don't you.

00;23;27;07 - 00;23;33;21

Woody Paige

Like, I think I think at the the other night I went to bonefish. I think that's a martini ahead. Rich.

00;23;33;24 - 00;23;38;00

Ron Zappolo

I've never heard you described as a rich elder person.

00;23;38;03 - 00;23;38;22

Speaker 3

And I thought, I don't.

00;23;38;22 - 00;23;39;19

Ron Zappolo

Know if that's a church.

00;23;39;19 - 00;23;40;10

Tom Green

And I thought that was.

00;23;40;17 - 00;23;41;14

Speaker 5

Really a compliment.

00;23;41;14 - 00;23;43;06

Speaker 3

Right. It was. It was.

00;23;43;06 - 00;23;44;19

Tom Green

A polite version of what was probably.

00;23;44;19 - 00;23;45;01

Speaker 3

Actually.

00;23;45;07 - 00;23;46;02

Ron Zappolo

A rich.

00;23;46;05 - 00;23;47;21

Speaker 3

Older person.

00;23;47;23 - 00;23;49;25

Woody Paige

What would you rather be?

00;23;49;28 - 00;23;53;00

Woody Paige

Me, a rich elder person? Are you a poor? Yeah.

00;23;53;02 - 00;23;57;08

Speaker 5

Oh, absolutely. You. That's what I was going to say. Like,

00;23;57;11 - 00;23;57;20

Speaker 3

But I'm.

00;23;57;22 - 00;23;58;29

Ron Zappolo

Not. Where are we going?

00;23;59;01 - 00;24;06;27

Woody Paige

That's a reason why I bought a house in Arizona, and I hated that. That was terrible. See, if you noticed the weather.

00;24;06;27 - 00;24;09;24

Ron Zappolo

And what did they do? Like, I.

00;24;09;24 - 00;24;13;12

Woody Paige

Didn't like the people. I didn't like the politics. I didn't like.

00;24;13;15 - 00;24;14;10

Speaker 3

That.

00;24;14;13 - 00;24;16;12

Woody Paige

I didn't like,

00;24;16;15 - 00;24;18;15

Ron Zappolo

The golf getting pretty much covered.

00;24;18;15 - 00;24;20;03

Woody Paige

Can't hit it for you.

00;24;20;03 - 00;24;22;02

Ron Zappolo

Covered everything.

00;24;22;05 - 00;24;23;24

Speaker 3

Good thing he got out of there. Well, I.

00;24;23;26 - 00;24;24;16

Woody Paige

Well, there was a.

00;24;24;16 - 00;24;26;28

Ron Zappolo

Worse. I like going to the beach.

00;24;27;00 - 00;24;27;28

Speaker 3

Yeah. Quick getaway.

00;24;28;05 - 00;24;28;24

Ron Zappolo

Getaway.

00;24;28;27 - 00;24;29;21

Speaker 3

Hot I do.

00;24;29;21 - 00;24;30;09

Woody Paige

So hot.

00;24;30;09 - 00;24;31;05

Ron Zappolo

I wouldn't want to live there.

00;24;31;08 - 00;24;31;17

Tom Green

I want to be.

00;24;31;21 - 00;24;32;22

Woody Paige

Cold in the winter.

00;24;32;22 - 00;24;58;27

Tom Green

I want to wrap up the Olympics with a couple of quick thoughts. One is, I just have always loved Mikaela Shiffrin is commentary on her life. I think she's always been so free and cheering about struggles and about success. She's been graceful in both ways. Last week we saw the world build up for Elia mountain, and then it led to, catastrophic final performance for him.

00;24;59;00 - 00;25;24;03

Tom Green

He then went and answered almost every question, and he did it far beyond his years as a sane young man who, instead of believing all the hype about himself, probably is all too aware of how difficult his sport is to execute, especially in that type of pressure. I thought he was as brilliant after his failure as he was in his short program.

00;25;24;03 - 00;25;37;01

Woody Paige

That if. How would you like to go through life? I mean, if you're I'm just going to throw out Babe Ruth. But Babe Ruth said the greatest of all time. But you're called the quad.

00;25;37;01 - 00;25;38;19

Ron Zappolo

The God I, the quad.

00;25;38;24 - 00;25;40;21

Woody Paige

You're on the quad.

00;25;40;23 - 00;25;41;24

Tom Green

But how about this for a sport.

00;25;41;29 - 00;25;42;29

Woody Paige

Any other sport.

00;25;43;01 - 00;25;50;28

Tom Green

Let's say, let's say you go out there and you're supposed to be the greatest at it, and this is your stage, and you're going to win the gold medal. And you fall doing that.

00;25;51;01 - 00;25;53;13

Ron Zappolo

And you've trained for years for one.

00;25;53;13 - 00;25;57;19

Tom Green

But moment the music continues. You now have already.

00;25;57;21 - 00;25;59;19

Ron Zappolo

Taught in the music always, but you've.

00;25;59;19 - 00;26;06;19

Tom Green

Already lost. And now you got to go try it again and again. And that music is going to keep going. It's like life and you can't keep spinning.

00;26;06;19 - 00;26;10;17

Ron Zappolo

You learn more about people in adversity. They do. And success. Well, we've.

00;26;10;17 - 00;26;13;09

Tom Green

Learned a lot about him. Yes, I thought he was.

00;26;13;10 - 00;26;29;22

Ron Zappolo

How many times have we covered events, the three of us, over a combined 100 and some odd years where it was maybe somebody we liked and we went into a locker room or whatever it was, and we walked out and said, I'm disappointed in such. And he.

00;26;29;22 - 00;26;30;16

Tom Green

Wouldn't talk or.

00;26;30;20 - 00;26;54;26

Ron Zappolo

Or he was upset or he blamed somebody else for he wouldn't speak. And then, conversely, how many times did we walk into a locker room? Maybe it was somebody we weren't that fond of who stood there and face the music? Yeah, way. And people don't realize when I say face the music, wave after wave after wave of reporters and stand there and be accountable.

00;26;54;26 - 00;27;05;15

Tom Green

But is it in a team sport? You're asked to do that so that other guys on your team don't have to answer for you or for the team? In an individual sport, it's you.

00;27;05;15 - 00;27;06;11

Ron Zappolo

You got to do it.

00;27;06;16 - 00;27;23;26

Tom Green

Although I got to tell you my one of my favorite interview blow offs I ever had, you've heard this from me before is like early mid 80s Lakers were in town. Go over to McNichols arena, got to get some sound and we go walking into the Laker locker room and I walk over to A.C. green and A.C. is sitting down there.

00;27;23;26 - 00;27;38;26

Tom Green

He's got a nice bag on his knee. I said, AC, can we talk to you for a second? And he looks up at me with that disgusting, bored look on his face, and he goes, man, I'm icing. Well, there's no way we could have a conversation.

00;27;38;26 - 00;27;44;11

Ron Zappolo

And conversely, Magic Johnson, no matter when you went to him, hey, what do you need?

00;27;44;11 - 00;27;44;26

Speaker 3

What do you need?

00;27;45;00 - 00;27;47;17

Ron Zappolo

What do you need? Yeah. How can I help you out?

00;27;47;18 - 00;27;54;29

Woody Paige

There was a Rockies pitcher, one of their most famous, which didn't take much, but, Ernie Cook.

00;27;55;01 - 00;27;56;20

Speaker 3

Aaron Cook, right hander.

00;27;56;25 - 00;28;21;14

Woody Paige

I went in and did a, What? I felt like a good hour with him, his history and how great. And and Patrick Saunders, who still covered the Rockies for the Rocky Mountain, who said, you know, you gotta write when the cookie crumbles, you gotta write. Go there. I said, no, no, no, no. So I get through with it and there's a Final Four game or something because the players would be better.

00;28;21;21 - 00;28;24;23

Woody Paige

But on that.

00;28;24;25 - 00;28;35;26

Woody Paige

It was not a legal battle just in the locker room. And so I'm watching the final four and I hear this voice behind me say, get the fuck out of the way. This is a guy. Just interview for an hour.

00;28;35;28 - 00;28;42;10

Speaker 3

Nicest guy in the whole world is this. Yeah, I get it. Yeah, but I wish we.

00;28;42;10 - 00;28;43;03

Ron Zappolo

Could sit here and.

00;28;43;05 - 00;28;43;16

Woody Paige

Do that.

00;28;43;16 - 00;29;02;21

Ron Zappolo

Turn to the three of us. We could do an hour and a half here on people who have treated us poorly in locker rooms and people who have been spectacular, like my kids would always ask me, who is your all time favorite Denver Broncos? I said, I can answer that quickly. You want me to? They go, yeah, I said, Tom Jackson.

00;29;02;27 - 00;29;03;07

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;29;03;08 - 00;29;28;22

Ron Zappolo

How come? Because Tom Jackson was available 100% of the time, was a wonderful human being spoke when they won their biggest games and also spoke when they got their ass kicked in the Super Bowl. And I'll never forget when you retired. I'm standing there next to him. He's about to go out and meet the media, and he says he gets up there and he says, any of you guys know a job where you can make $300,000 a year?

00;29;28;25 - 00;29;34;16

Ron Zappolo

That shows you how times have changed. And I'm thrilled that he ended up getting a job where he made a lot.

00;29;34;16 - 00;29;35;04

Tom Green

More great.

00;29;35;06 - 00;29;36;17

Ron Zappolo

Because he deserved it.

00;29;36;20 - 00;29;41;02

Woody Paige

Well, and I just a quick Tom Jackson story. I wrote this article.

00;29;41;03 - 00;29;42;04

Ron Zappolo

You wrote the book.

00;29;42;06 - 00;29;58;21

Woody Paige

And, when I got through, I sent it to him. He was living in evergreen, up in the mountains. And I said, here's a book. Go through it. Tell me anything. Because that kind of, you know, twisted some things that he said. And I called him a week later and I said, so what do you want to change in the book?

00;29;58;23 - 00;30;15;14

Woody Paige

Perfect, perfect, perfect. I said, you didn't read it, did you? Yeah, I went through with it. So I called him like three weeks later. I said, really? Have you read it? Oh yeah. Don't change anything. The book is one week from coming out and he calls me and he said, I need to change something.

00;30;15;14 - 00;30;16;27

Speaker 3

In the book. And I.

00;30;16;27 - 00;30;29;19

Woody Paige

Said, at this late date, I said, you finally got around to reading. Well, sort of. I said, what do you want to change? He said, my dedication is to my girlfriend. Darla said, yeah, change that to.

00;30;29;19 - 00;30;33;22

Speaker 3

Suzy. That.

00;30;33;24 - 00;30;40;06

Speaker 3

Or or just leave it as a blank. Oh no, I read it, Tommy announced.

00;30;40;08 - 00;30;42;26

Tom Green

Like, oh, come on. In addition to my tattoo.

00;30;42;27 - 00;30;45;05

Speaker 3

Never read the book, but he.

00;30;45;07 - 00;30;50;11

Woody Paige

He did know the dedication. You know, I dedicated to my mother. He dedicated.

00;30;50;11 - 00;30;51;25

Ron Zappolo

To to Darla.

00;30;51;27 - 00;30;54;09

Woody Paige

Who would away as you know, he.

00;30;54;09 - 00;31;04;28

Ron Zappolo

Would come back from time to time with ESPN and I would lose contact with him, and he would go to the Broncos. And from 30 yards away, he might see.

00;31;04;28 - 00;31;05;26

Tom Green

Me pick it right up.

00;31;05;26 - 00;31;13;16

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, man, never walk over a hug. What's going on, my man with what are you doing as a fan? He's just a wonderful human being.

00;31;13;17 - 00;31;28;04

Woody Paige

But he came when I was inducted in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. He came back because we had a great friendship, like you were talking about. And we're in the bar before. And he comes over and he said. Please don't tell that story. We would would smoke dope.

00;31;28;04 - 00;31;29;08

Speaker 3

But yeah.

00;31;29;11 - 00;31;31;08

Tom Green

Well, so you had.

00;31;31;09 - 00;31;44;08

Ron Zappolo

You had it in the book. And I remember this where we were up in Greeley and only Tom could do this. He'd walk out in the afternoon, know 100 degrees, kind of look up, look around. Go ahead, finish it.

00;31;44;10 - 00;31;44;29

Woody Paige

I mean, say.

00;31;45;04 - 00;31;45;17

Ron Zappolo

I think.

00;31;45;17 - 00;31;46;03

Speaker 3

I'm.

00;31;46;05 - 00;31;48;04

Woody Paige

I'm getting a heavier day.

00;31;48;06 - 00;31;49;21

Speaker 3

And so he.

00;31;49;23 - 00;31;52;06

Woody Paige

Start practice at about the third play, grab his.

00;31;52;06 - 00;31;53;13

Ron Zappolo

Hamstring, hamstring.

00;31;53;15 - 00;32;16;08

Woody Paige

And he'd slip off and he'd look over and wink at me and he'd point. And he what he was pointing to is he'd gotten a new Corvette and he wanted me to that he was going to change up his clothes, take a shower or whatever. He did not take a shower. He'd only played three days and we'd get in and he said, you gotta listen to, Luther Vandross.

00;32;16;11 - 00;32;16;27

Woody Paige

We could tell.

00;32;16;27 - 00;32;18;06

Ron Zappolo

Stories about him.

00;32;18;11 - 00;32;24;06

Tom Green

Well, he used to be that great, but he made it famous on ESPN. That segment that now would be called. He got flagged.

00;32;24;06 - 00;32;25;00

Ron Zappolo

Yes.

00;32;25;02 - 00;32;26;20

Tom Green

He got jacked up. Yeah.

00;32;26;21 - 00;32;31;01

Woody Paige

Jacked up down this. You can't even use that anymore because it looked like. I mean.

00;32;31;07 - 00;32;37;11

Ron Zappolo

How many guys run by John Madden when they're beating them in the AFC champ. Take that fat man.

00;32;37;15 - 00;32;38;06

Tom Green

It's it's.

00;32;38;09 - 00;32;39;05

Woody Paige

All over fat.

00;32;39;05 - 00;32;40;14

Ron Zappolo

All over fat man.

00;32;40;14 - 00;33;00;11

Tom Green

Three weeks until free agency. So we'll talk about the Broncos agency in just a minute. But obviously for Americans the math has been very tough lately, whether it's at the grocery store or insurance premiums that are skyrocketing, even with a steady job, more families are now being forced to rely on high interest credit cards to try to cover expenses.

00;33;00;13 - 00;33;24;28

Tom Green

But if you're a homeowner who is caught in that cycle carrying balances or those interest rates in the 20s or even 30s, here's a chance to get some relief. Right now, mortgage rates have fallen to a three year low. Our friends at American Financing are helping homeowners pay off high interest debt at rates in the low fives. Their salary based mortgage consultants don't just push loans, they build exit strategies from debt.

00;33;25;01 - 00;33;53;28

Tom Green

On average, they're saving customers $800 a month. And if you start today, you might also be able to delay two mortgage payments. And there are no upfront fees or obligations. To find out how much you can save, call Colorado Home for home loans. That's American financing at 8555815828855581 58 2028, or visit American financing dot net slash green.

00;33;54;00 - 00;34;00;03

Woody Paige

Before the night before we do these shows and we've done 3737.

00;34;00;05 - 00;34;01;04

Ron Zappolo

Of that.

00;34;01;06 - 00;34;05;25

Woody Paige

I write I just write to my free flowing ideas of things that.

00;34;05;25 - 00;34;07;10

Ron Zappolo

I think, and they're much appreciated.

00;34;07;10 - 00;34;08;26

Speaker 3

The good stuff. And I and.

00;34;08;26 - 00;34;14;29

Woody Paige

I so proud that Ron finally read that.

00;34;15;02 - 00;34;15;18

Speaker 3

Text.

00;34;15;18 - 00;34;16;24

Woody Paige

That I send out for you.

00;34;16;28 - 00;34;18;28

Ron Zappolo

I always really saw it was more and.

00;34;18;28 - 00;34;19;11

Speaker 3

More, and.

00;34;19;11 - 00;34;23;12

Woody Paige

I actually did some research on that. And that's the first time he's ever.

00;34;23;12 - 00;34;26;03

Speaker 3

Like Jackson reading his book is the first time.

00;34;26;04 - 00;34;27;24

Ron Zappolo

Like it's the first time. But.

00;34;27;26 - 00;34;28;28

Speaker 3

You know, if I sit.

00;34;28;28 - 00;34;35;03

Woody Paige

Down at night and I go, I know Tom. Tom would say, oh, that's a good idea. And, and, and all of us.

00;34;35;06 - 00;34;36;15

Speaker 3

Turn away and go, that's terrible.

00;34;36;15 - 00;34;40;01

Ron Zappolo

That's good. Yeah. I saw a couple other things, you know, 14 years.

00;34;40;03 - 00;34;44;18

Woody Paige

And she'll say, oh, that's some good subjects. He finally liked the subject.

00;34;44;23 - 00;34;55;18

Ron Zappolo

Hey, you know, I did write down Jesse Jackson and Robert Duvall. You know what else I wrote down? Ronda Rousey, who's coming out of retirement to fight Gina Carano in an email.

00;34;55;19 - 00;34;56;14

Woody Paige

I saw that.

00;34;56;17 - 00;34;59;15

Tom Green

They both nearer to 40 than 30.

00;34;59;21 - 00;35;03;03

Ron Zappolo

They're both, okay. Ronda Rousey is 39.

00;35;03;03 - 00;35;04;03

Tom Green

Yeah, it's near for,

00;35;04;05 - 00;35;07;26

Ron Zappolo

Gina Carano is like 43 or very.

00;35;07;26 - 00;35;08;18

Tom Green

Near 40.

00;35;08;18 - 00;35;11;15

Ron Zappolo

What is the deal? Is there a mark? I guess you know what it could be?

00;35;11;15 - 00;35;13;28

Tom Green

It could be one of those deals where they're paying them.

00;35;14;00 - 00;35;26;00

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, maybe it'd be a lot of it's going to be on Netflix. So hopefully if I, if I do three 4340 I just say that if it's on Netflix, if the thing doesn't buffer, I might.

00;35;26;03 - 00;35;26;19

Speaker 3

Be.

00;35;26;19 - 00;35;31;15

Tom Green

Well, we'll see it. Hey, before we get if you want to watch 40 year old women fight.

00;35;31;17 - 00;35;34;17

Ron Zappolo

Well, I don't like women fighting.

00;35;34;20 - 00;35;35;19

Woody Paige

You know, I'm not.

00;35;35;27 - 00;35;37;29

Ron Zappolo

Keen about women getting in the ring.

00;35;37;29 - 00;35;44;11

Tom Green

I prefer that they've done it now. In high school, the young women who get to wrestle. I think wrestling because.

00;35;44;11 - 00;35;44;25

Speaker 3

I,

00;35;45;00 - 00;35;46;15

Tom Green

That's a strength, not a.

00;35;46;15 - 00;35;50;01

Woody Paige

Beat. Not in the women fight. Because I've been on the other side.

00;35;50;01 - 00;35;52;11

Speaker 3

Of the fence on the wrong end of a.

00;35;52;11 - 00;35;54;00

Woody Paige

Beating 5 or 6 times. Oh, I.

00;35;54;00 - 00;36;16;08

Ron Zappolo

Had another thing, too. And this is I didn't what do you didn't bring this up? But this is like one sentence from you guys. So I never watched the NBA All-Star game because it's an absolute embarrassment to the players involved. But I read and saw the highlights about what they did on Sunday. Are they headed for the first time in years down the right track with this or.

00;36;16;08 - 00;36;17;03

Tom Green

No, I didn't I didn't.

00;36;17;08 - 00;36;21;15

Woody Paige

Okay, so as the only person here to actually watch it, sports events, I.

00;36;21;15 - 00;36;22;23

Ron Zappolo

Watched it. Did you watch.

00;36;22;23 - 00;36;27;14

Woody Paige

It? Yeah. Yeah, I saw the all important I mean, you want to see the US team?

00;36;27;16 - 00;36;29;00

Ron Zappolo

I watch a lot of NBA games.

00;36;29;00 - 00;36;31;25

Woody Paige

I'm not versus the world. You know I got to watch the world.

00;36;31;25 - 00;36;32;10

Ron Zappolo

The world.

00;36;32;14 - 00;36;34;26

Woody Paige

And you probably don't even know there was a younger team.

00;36;34;26 - 00;36;38;24

Ron Zappolo

Yes, I followed this. There was an older there was a star Kawhi Leonard.

00;36;38;25 - 00;36;54;05

Woody Paige

Right, right. And then there was a world team. Yes. Yo could should look at don't care. They want to sit there and just yeah they didn't talk to each other. Yeah I don't know anything about it. This is the first time forget the Pro Bowl sand game.

00;36;54;06 - 00;36;57;11

Speaker 3

Right. The flag in the sandbox.

00;36;57;13 - 00;37;17;12

Woody Paige

The hockey games. Even though they've tried different things, it's still like 18 to 6 in those games. Yeah. In baseball, I said to someone over the weekend, baseball has a real game. I like baseball's the best because you don't have to worry about getting hurt. You can just pitch for an inning and you can play three.

00;37;17;12 - 00;37;28;19

Woody Paige

But this is a chance the NBA's come up with a chance which they stole from hockey. That was fine with that, invitational thing. Yeah, this is good. This. You like it?

00;37;28;25 - 00;37;29;21

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, I'm gonna try.

00;37;29;25 - 00;37;34;06

Woody Paige

They play and even Kawhi Leonard of all people said, man, I think Kevin.

00;37;34;06 - 00;37;35;28

Ron Zappolo

Durant highlights Kevin Durant's.

00;37;36;04 - 00;37;37;01

Woody Paige

World or something.

00;37;37;01 - 00;37;42;08

Ron Zappolo

Here. And I heard that, a couple of those guys gave Wembanyama a lot of credit.

00;37;42;09 - 00;37;42;17

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;37;42;17 - 00;37;49;21

Ron Zappolo

For competing because he said it and said, no, I'm not going to I'm competing. I'm going to block your shot. I'm not going to let you just dunk. Good for.

00;37;49;21 - 00;37;56;10

Tom Green

Him. They also got good TV numbers. But I also think that they were really carried into the event by the Olympics.

00;37;56;12 - 00;37;57;24

Ron Zappolo

And I'm glad they.

00;37;57;24 - 00;38;05;09

Woody Paige

Were playing 12 minutes. They were playing 12 minutes, but it was all out. It was good. They didn't have to worry about.

00;38;05;11 - 00;38;06;02

Woody Paige

You know, I'm going to.

00;38;06;05 - 00;38;06;12

Ron Zappolo

Be I'll.

00;38;06;12 - 00;38;18;12

Woody Paige

Watch it and I can guard a little bit. And I thought they found it. They have figured out the way to play this. Even.

00;38;18;15 - 00;38;23;00

Woody Paige

Durand, I think, said we could go back to East and West under this circumstance.

00;38;23;00 - 00;38;23;10

Ron Zappolo

Under.

00;38;23;17 - 00;38;29;24

Woody Paige

Yeah, but, if you don't watch it, it's not that great. I mean, it's not, but it was Larry Bird versus Magic Johnson.

00;38;29;24 - 00;38;30;14

Ron Zappolo

It was better.

00;38;30;14 - 00;38;35;07

Woody Paige

It was. It was something worthy of not wasting your time.

00;38;35;07 - 00;39;02;22

Ron Zappolo

I also saw something else that came out of that. The piqued my interest. Jaylen Brown, who might win the MVP this year, said, hey, listen, instead of the Or in addition to the slam dunk and the three point shot, we should have a one on one contest. No, take the 12 best players. He goes, I would love to go up one on one against Luka or Durant.

00;39;02;27 - 00;39;06;05

Ron Zappolo

And I thought or SGA and I thought that would be enough.

00;39;06;06 - 00;39;16;17

Tom Green

Well you remember the early 70s. They used to do the halftime. They have an old thing. They they'd shot it in the preseason. The one on one. Yeah. See like Bob McAdoo that's taking on Pete Maravich.

00;39;16;17 - 00;39;29;18

Ron Zappolo

It was like the red on round ball kind of yeah. Little half yeah I think at the All-Star game if on Saturday you had two of the five best players in the world going one on one first got a 6 or 7 wins. That might be interesting.

00;39;29;20 - 00;39;30;11

Woody Paige

Do you really.

00;39;30;11 - 00;39;31;21

Speaker 3

Though.

00;39;31;23 - 00;39;36;25

Woody Paige

Who's the best player in the world right now? Yeah. Who's the best player in Europe.

00;39;36;27 - 00;39;40;04

Tom Green

Jokic in a five on five game.

00;39;40;07 - 00;39;41;16

Woody Paige

But one on one well.

00;39;41;16 - 00;39;46;29

Ron Zappolo

But yeah but wouldn't you like to see SGA against Jaylen Brown one on.

00;39;46;29 - 00;39;53;25

Tom Green

One. Well that's when when they on CBS back in the 70s they would you'd see mismatches of you wouldn't.

00;39;53;28 - 00;39;58;26

Ron Zappolo

Be small I wouldn't mind seeing Steph Curry and Jamal Murray go one on one.

00;39;58;28 - 00;40;03;20

Woody Paige

Well and still I guess old as you talk.

00;40;03;20 - 00;40;07;05

Ron Zappolo

To him you are and you're older elder. You're my.

00;40;07;05 - 00;40;09;02

Woody Paige

Favorite sports of it was the home Run.

00;40;09;02 - 00;40;09;19

Ron Zappolo

Derby.

00;40;09;19 - 00;40;10;10

Woody Paige

Yeah. Of the.

00;40;10;10 - 00;40;12;22

Tom Green

1951 63 ball.

00;40;12;22 - 00;40;14;21

Speaker 3

Field. Oh, that's what I.

00;40;14;24 - 00;40;22;20

Ron Zappolo

Think you're talking about. This one. You're talking about the one from our day. They'd shoot it when they would go to Crosby Field in Cincinnati.

00;40;22;20 - 00;40;23;21

Woody Paige

Oh, no, it was.

00;40;23;23 - 00;40;28;08

Ron Zappolo

It was in a field in L.A. It was Wrigley Field. I've been at that ballpark.

00;40;28;08 - 00;40;29;07

Speaker 3

And Willie Mays.

00;40;29;07 - 00;40;30;23

Ron Zappolo

Hank Aaron against Willie Mays.

00;40;30;23 - 00;40;36;06

Woody Paige

Willie Mays against Mickey Mantle, and the announcer sat at a card table. Yeah, yeah, the microphone.

00;40;36;06 - 00;40;39;08

Speaker 3

Whoever was hitting was sitting with them and with them. Yeah. Well, Harmon.

00;40;39;08 - 00;40;39;24

Tom Green

What do you think?

00;40;39;24 - 00;40;41;14

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, well, it's going to be tough.

00;40;41;14 - 00;40;43;18

Woody Paige

I know they got like $500.

00;40;43;20 - 00;40;44;21

Ron Zappolo

They might still have those.

00;40;44;24 - 00;40;46;24

Tom Green

Remember, if I tell us and Bill Kramer.

00;40;46;24 - 00;40;47;19

Speaker 3

Also.

00;40;47;22 - 00;40;50;02

Tom Green

Big things that sell the product.

00;40;50;02 - 00;40;57;04

Woody Paige

But it's, Mickey Mantle be sitting there. Billy would be up and he go, oh, Willie just missed a home run or they're waiting. Mick.

00;40;57;07 - 00;40;58;16

Ron Zappolo

Mick was looking for a clock.

00;40;58;16 - 00;41;04;05

Woody Paige

Good swing. Yeah, I thought that. And they bring it back occasionally on some.

00;41;04;05 - 00;41;06;07

Ron Zappolo

But they haven't brought it back because I've.

00;41;06;07 - 00;41;07;07

Tom Green

Seen it. Oh, yeah.

00;41;07;07 - 00;41;17;26

Woody Paige

It's out if you haven't. If you're out there and you've never seen the it's great Home Run Derby. It's takes place in Wrigley Field. But it's not the Wrigley Field in Chicago. But Wrigley also built the same kind of.

00;41;17;27 - 00;41;23;26

Ron Zappolo

It's it's the report. It's the Wrigley Field in LA where the angels, when they were boys, played their first.

00;41;24;00 - 00;41;29;17

Woody Paige

And it was in a neighborhood, too, like the one in Wrigley Field. Yes. You could see like, middle class houses.

00;41;29;20 - 00;41;39;04

Tom Green

So back to basketball. I was thinking, you know, you're the one on one thing that they did in the early 70s. They also did. And again, they'd shoot it in the off season or something. Was horse. Oh, yeah.

00;41;39;04 - 00;41;41;14

Speaker 3

Horse might not play horses.

00;41;41;14 - 00;41;42;10

Speaker 5

So fun.

00;41;42;11 - 00;41;44;14

Woody Paige

You guys were part of.

00;41;44;17 - 00;41;45;13

Speaker 3

Caitlyn Clark.

00;41;45;13 - 00;41;55;13

Woody Paige

70. Yeah. But 76 when the slam dunk contest was here they never duplicated. No don't never taking off at the.

00;41;55;16 - 00;42;03;23

Tom Green

End of the NBA. Did have when they used to have Jordan and Dominique and the best players in the game and the best dunkers in the game were the same guys. Now it's Mac McCollum.

00;42;03;24 - 00;42;06;15

Ron Zappolo

Let's get to the Broncos. So I don't know I don't know what it was all this.

00;42;06;22 - 00;42;09;02

Tom Green

Yeah well maybe I saw notes here.

00;42;09;06 - 00;42;12;12

Woody Paige

But I just say having watched it I watched two of them.

00;42;12;13 - 00;42;13;12

Ron Zappolo

You were impressed with it.

00;42;13;13 - 00;42;15;28

Woody Paige

I thought this is something. If you're going to do it.

00;42;16;03 - 00;42;16;18

Ron Zappolo

Do it like.

00;42;16;21 - 00;42;20;02

Woody Paige

The one that you do. They got people interested. Because anything.

00;42;20;02 - 00;42;21;00

Ron Zappolo

That makes them play.

00;42;21;01 - 00;42;24;25

Tom Green

As opposed to food, because they've come up with a proper, yeah, the way to go.

00;42;24;29 - 00;42;28;08

Woody Paige

The world team had an interest in it because you know we.

00;42;28;10 - 00;42;29;00

Speaker 3

Yeah.

00;42;29;03 - 00;42;38;22

Woody Paige

There's they've won the last what seven MVP. And so the the older guys want to prove that they can beat the world team. The younger guys are just having fun.

00;42;38;22 - 00;42;43;25

Ron Zappolo

And now their next problem is they said we're going to deal with the tanking issue. Yeah. Which is becoming really bad.

00;42;43;25 - 00;42;49;15

Tom Green

What else would be good though? Because if you have the three teams, what if you had like a team of rich elderly guys.

00;42;49;18 - 00;42;51;28

Ron Zappolo

Like coached by a rich elderly guy.

00;42;52;01 - 00;42;52;20

Woody Paige

Or at least a.

00;42;52;26 - 00;42;53;25

Ron Zappolo

Going to stay with you.

00;42;53;25 - 00;42;54;23

Woody Paige

The TV show that.

00;42;54;23 - 00;42;57;09

Speaker 3

Has rich. Oh, okay.

00;42;57;13 - 00;42;58;28

Woody Paige

All right.

00;42;59;00 - 00;42;59;23

Speaker 3

So my question.

00;42;59;23 - 00;43;01;24

Speaker 5

To old age and wealth okay. You give.

00;43;01;26 - 00;43;03;08

Ron Zappolo

Them your question because it was a good.

00;43;03;08 - 00;43;19;16

Woody Paige

Match. My question last night that I sent to the other two guys, I said, the Broncos now have about 25, $29 million. They've been freed up from Russell Wilson's contract. They can now go out on the market and not get guys that are health issue.

00;43;19;18 - 00;43;20;15

Tom Green

Right, like.

00;43;20;15 - 00;43;37;09

Woody Paige

They did like last year, but they can go out and really spend 20, $25 million on guys. And so my question to you was name of the three guys at and they would be at the positions they have most need for you spent time researching?

00;43;37;10 - 00;43;37;26

Ron Zappolo

I spent.

00;43;37;28 - 00;43;38;11

Woody Paige

We start.

00;43;38;11 - 00;43;39;10

Ron Zappolo

With you. Let me start.

00;43;39;16 - 00;43;40;09

Speaker 5

You got a guy I.

00;43;40;09 - 00;43;43;15

Ron Zappolo

Wrote stuff down. I mean, that's in my own way. It was like.

00;43;43;17 - 00;43;46;21

Woody Paige

He's not reading off a teleprompter like he did for 45.

00;43;46;21 - 00;43;49;27

Speaker 3

Years. Well, it's a fun game, rich. And not only.

00;43;49;27 - 00;44;08;11

Ron Zappolo

That's Cam and Richard, not only at Fox. I did the prompter sports. It was like, let me tell you what Alex English did tonight, okay? I went down. And the reason I'm qualified to do this, I've spent 30 years in a fantasy football league waiting for my blood because a former basketball coach in Denver got me into it.

00;44;08;15 - 00;44;12;29

Ron Zappolo

So I am well versed in skill position players and, you know.

00;44;13;00 - 00;44;13;17

Tom Green

Drafting.

00;44;13;17 - 00;44;19;29

Ron Zappolo

Them and drafting them. What is right. The two areas I looked at were tight end and wide receiver and I said three.

00;44;20;02 - 00;44;21;03

Woody Paige

Three and I go up.

00;44;21;03 - 00;44;42;06

Ron Zappolo

Well those were the I got three guys, but I think those are the two okay areas of big need. And let me go down the list. My tight ends I picked one and here's who I threw out Kyle Pitts is the best 190 catches last year. Almost 2000 yards five touchdowns. He's 25 years old. He's going to want 18 to 20 million over a long time.

00;44;42;06 - 00;45;01;22

Ron Zappolo

I'm throwing him out Dallas Goddard's a terrific tight end, 31 years old I think he's going to stay with the Eagles. David the joke who's a free agent with the Browns? He's not bad. But I don't know if he's a big upgrade from Evan Ingram. I settled on one guy and I really like him. And it's Isaiah likely of the Baltimore Ravens.

00;45;01;24 - 00;45;27;02

Ron Zappolo

He has shared that position with Mark Andrews who's a borderline Hall of Fame guy. But he's older. Isaiah likely has been terrific. And the problem is he's going to be a free agent. I think that he might want to go with John Harbaugh in New York, or he might want to go to with Todd Monken to Cleveland. But here's the deal, I think I think he's in that eight, $9 million a year area.

00;45;27;07 - 00;45;36;17

Ron Zappolo

I think if you offer him a three year deal, maybe 35 million guaranteed, I like Isaiah likely to come in here and be much better than what we've had.

00;45;36;17 - 00;45;37;21

Speaker 3

Let's go to the stop.

00;45;37;21 - 00;45;39;00

Ron Zappolo

You want to stop there?

00;45;39;03 - 00;45;44;03

Tom Green

Because I think two things. One, when I think of him, all I think about is that catch. There's a catch. There was a catch.

00;45;44;09 - 00;45;49;02

Ron Zappolo

That the total was like there was two more. The one in the one in the end zone, which was a catch.

00;45;49;09 - 00;45;49;27

Tom Green

It changed.

00;45;49;27 - 00;45;54;16

Ron Zappolo

A lot. And the other one where a part of his pinky was over the bears.

00;45;54;16 - 00;46;17;26

Tom Green

The real question if you're the Broncos and you need to fill positions with money inside linebacker, receiver, running back, maybe tight end, you have to make a decision. They have been so incompetent at making tight ends, make plays, and it may be that they've never had any talent in the position in ten years. Or is it? They're just not any good at getting the tight end.

00;46;17;26 - 00;46;33;00

Tom Green

The football. Why pay a tight end if you can't figure out if your quarterback doesn't like the tight end game, if you're okay, if you're head coach at this point, doesn't know how to get the tight end in space like so many other teams can do, I don't want to spend any money.

00;46;33;00 - 00;46;36;22

Ron Zappolo

Okay, I'll just counter that and say, when Sean Payton was with the Saints.

00;46;36;22 - 00;46;38;03

Tom Green

Great titled.

00;46;38;05 - 00;46;38;17

Ron Zappolo

The.

00;46;38;20 - 00;46;39;20

Tom Green

Great Grand.

00;46;39;23 - 00;46;42;11

Ron Zappolo

Durango, definitely he got the ball to the tight ends.

00;46;42;11 - 00;46;43;13

Speaker 3

That was then okay.

00;46;43;13 - 00;46;45;01

Ron Zappolo

So okay, but I, I.

00;46;45;01 - 00;46;48;12

Woody Paige

Don't respond to his, Isaiah likely.

00;46;48;14 - 00;47;03;07

Tom Green

I like likely a lot. I think he's a perfect fit. And I thought he's the case. Is he made on all those guys are accurate. Pitts I you know, he was a first round guy. He's going to get paid a lot of money, but he's going to be a high end high. He's going to cost too much.

00;47;03;07 - 00;47;08;00

Woody Paige

Rod said to me before we started. So we'll have some argument on this. My pick Isaiah.

00;47;08;00 - 00;47;09;09

Speaker 3

Like all.

00;47;09;09 - 00;47;12;05

Woody Paige

Three of us that he saw, I think he was making.

00;47;12;05 - 00;47;12;25

Ron Zappolo

Like, oh.

00;47;12;25 - 00;47;20;20

Woody Paige

You're 3 or $4 million a year. And I went, you could pay this guy $10 million. He's a good tight end. You didn't get to see him all the time. Joking.

00;47;20;22 - 00;47;23;26

Ron Zappolo

But we didn't discuss this beforehand. This is, I think.

00;47;24;00 - 00;47;26;24

Woody Paige

Likely is the most likely.

00;47;26;26 - 00;47;30;03

Speaker 5

Finally, I was like, when are we gonna get a punt?

00;47;30;05 - 00;47;31;19

Speaker 3

Yeah, I think, oh, I.

00;47;31;20 - 00;47;32;26

Woody Paige

Think you.

00;47;32;28 - 00;47;35;04

Speaker 3

That's what happens.

00;47;35;06 - 00;47;37;21

Woody Paige

Like, you didn't know you were injured.

00;47;37;24 - 00;47;39;04

Ron Zappolo

And you will get some I.

00;47;39;04 - 00;47;41;15

Woody Paige

Think likely is the guy, though.

00;47;41;17 - 00;47;42;29

Tom Green

Who can they get the tight end.

00;47;43;02 - 00;47;43;27

Speaker 3

He involved in there?

00;47;44;01 - 00;47;50;12

Woody Paige

He would be there. Yeah. You're right. Can you do it with anybody? Could you do it with Shannon Sharpe?

00;47;50;18 - 00;47;51;08

Tom Green

I mean, yeah, but.

00;47;51;09 - 00;47;58;12

Woody Paige

Think about it. Since Shannon Shark, who's in the Hall of Fame there really? I mean, there been a been a.

00;47;58;12 - 00;48;00;16

Tom Green

Good it's been a witness protection program.

00;48;00;23 - 00;48;02;04

Ron Zappolo

Really has been it's been.

00;48;02;04 - 00;48;14;08

Woody Paige

They went to the Big Ten year after year to year. But I looked at all of the tight ends that are available, free agents and six of them or guys that have played for the Broncos and didn't work out, you don't want to go there.

00;48;14;13 - 00;48;15;02

Tom Green

So who's.

00;48;15;02 - 00;48;16;14

Woody Paige

Now? We're agreeing on tight.

00;48;16;16 - 00;48;20;07

Ron Zappolo

Okay, that we're all agreed. And Titans, maybe we'll get some disagreement on the wide receivers.

00;48;20;09 - 00;48;21;18

Tom Green

I already disagree.

00;48;21;20 - 00;48;39;29

Ron Zappolo

Okay, well it's good. Here's a few guys that I threw out that are available Keenan Allen great player. Had a good year old 33 years old. Took the words out of my mouth. Wandell Robinson young player. He had 90 catches last year for a thousand yards. He's a slot guy who's going to make a lot of money.

00;48;39;29 - 00;48;40;27

Tom Green

Kind of another guy.

00;48;40;28 - 00;48;44;17

Ron Zappolo

He's just a guy who catches seven yard catches. I don't want.

00;48;44;17 - 00;48;45;07

Tom Green

You get a guy.

00;48;45;14 - 00;48;57;15

Ron Zappolo

Now I'm going to give you a few guys and I like two of them and I will. I will give them to you. And they're under the radar, guys, I think. And I'll give you my number one. Number one under the radar. Christian Kirk with Houston.

00;48;57;15 - 00;48;58;08

Tom Green

Terrific player.

00;48;58;13 - 00;49;00;25

Ron Zappolo

He really is. And he didn't have a great you sure.

00;49;00;25 - 00;49;03;09

Woody Paige

That's his name? Because Steve Smith went on.

00;49;03;09 - 00;49;04;05

Speaker 3

Loan and.

00;49;04;05 - 00;49;05;27

Woody Paige

Called him by another game.

00;49;06;00 - 00;49;24;21

Ron Zappolo

Well he had eight catches for a buck $50 in the playoffs. I really like him okay. Second guy I really like and this is a young guy. Kirk is 29, Romeo Dobbs and Green Bay is 25. He's had four straight years, 50 catches, 600 yards. It's going to cost a little more $1,213 million.

00;49;24;26 - 00;49;29;01

Tom Green

Because he been a difficult player teammate.

00;49;29;03 - 00;49;29;13

Speaker 3

You know.

00;49;29;13 - 00;49;30;16

Tom Green

He's had some issues I think.

00;49;30;16 - 00;49;32;19

Ron Zappolo

He's had a few issues. But all wide receivers.

00;49;32;19 - 00;49;33;15

Tom Green

I've had issues too.

00;49;33;21 - 00;49;35;14

Ron Zappolo

Every wide receiver has an issue.

00;49;35;19 - 00;49;37;09

Woody Paige

Everybody sitting in these chairs.

00;49;37;16 - 00;49;39;06

Speaker 3

Yeah. Now I'm gonna.

00;49;39;08 - 00;49;50;22

Ron Zappolo

Let me get to the two guys that I really like. And one of them is going to cost a lot. One of them I don't think will cost as much. Okay. I had this guy in my draft this year and I love this guy Rasheed Shaheed.

00;49;50;22 - 00;49;52;23

Tom Green

Boy, did he make a difference this year.

00;49;52;25 - 00;50;15;22

Ron Zappolo

You can do so much with him. He's 27 years old. He was terrific in New Orleans. They didn't want to pay him, so they traded him at the deadline to Seattle. He was one of the major cogs for Seattle. Only guy this year to return a punt and a kick for a touchdown. And every time they tried to take, Jackson Smith and the jig out of the game, Shaheed makes big catches.

00;50;15;26 - 00;50;18;16

Ron Zappolo

He's going to be 12 to 15 million.

00;50;18;19 - 00;50;21;05

Tom Green

Marvin Mims ish, though I think dislocating.

00;50;21;08 - 00;50;23;06

Ron Zappolo

He's a good Marvin.

00;50;23;06 - 00;50;23;19

Speaker 3

Moves.

00;50;23;19 - 00;50;25;12

Ron Zappolo

Yeah but he's more talented.

00;50;25;13 - 00;50;26;10

Tom Green

But a similar player.

00;50;26;11 - 00;50;46;18

Ron Zappolo

Similar kind of player. But he's only 27. But here is my one guy. This is it. I would go all in and I don't think a lot of people know about this guy, but I followed him. Alec Pierce. Oh who's played for the Indianapolis Colts, 25 years old. So he's young. Okay. Here's what I love about him, Woody, for the last two years, no one knows this.

00;50;46;26 - 00;50;59;02

Ron Zappolo

He has led the NFL in yards per catch yards. He'll go from Daniel Jones Anthony Richardson. And this guy is not making a lot of money.

00;50;59;06 - 00;51;00;07

Tom Green

Good size guy to.

00;51;00;08 - 00;51;17;23

Ron Zappolo

Good size guy. He's big. He's 25 I think he's another guy. Give him a three year deal I think you know, eight, nine, ten, $11 million. He will be outstanding paired with Courtland Sutton or whoever you want to help him with. But those are my.

00;51;17;25 - 00;51;27;02

Woody Paige

I am I'm shocked because, I don't I've never seen you this excited since you've moved in. It's my neighbor.

00;51;27;04 - 00;51;29;15

Woody Paige

That you had somebody that could cut your yard for you.

00;51;29;15 - 00;51;31;11

Ron Zappolo

Yes. True.

00;51;31;14 - 00;51;31;25

Speaker 3

Go ahead.

00;51;31;25 - 00;51;34;27

Woody Paige

You're you're you are right there.

00;51;34;27 - 00;51;40;10

Ron Zappolo

One more thing. You credit. You gave me the impetus to go, and Rasheed.

00;51;40;12 - 00;51;42;26

Woody Paige

I thought, led the league in.

00;51;42;28 - 00;51;43;29

Speaker 3

Yards per catch.

00;51;43;29 - 00;51;45;07

Woody Paige

Yeah, I thought it was 19.

00;51;45;07 - 00;51;46;06

Ron Zappolo

It was Alec Pierce.

00;51;46;06 - 00;51;47;06

Tom Green

He has over 20.

00;51;47;08 - 00;51;48;03

Ron Zappolo

Over 20.

00;51;48;03 - 00;51;57;27

Woody Paige

So those were the two that I came down to. But I thought that Rasheed was to me, he is a good team guy. Yeah he's a little bit younger.

00;51;57;29 - 00;51;59;20

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. And he's 20 so.

00;51;59;24 - 00;52;02;13

Woody Paige

He's got some speed.

00;52;02;15 - 00;52;04;07

Ron Zappolo

He's he's he's.

00;52;04;07 - 00;52;05;07

Tom Green

Got a lot of downfield.

00;52;05;11 - 00;52;06;01

Ron Zappolo

Good team guy.

00;52;06;02 - 00;52;10;08

Woody Paige

That is my guy. And again he was not a guy that's making.

00;52;10;14 - 00;52;13;04

Ron Zappolo

No he's not I'm sure he's going to want him.

00;52;13;05 - 00;52;17;19

Woody Paige

Yeah he's going to get it. But you got the you now have the money to say.

00;52;17;20 - 00;52;18;06

Ron Zappolo

I don't want to.

00;52;18;06 - 00;52;38;22

Tom Green

Do any. The Broncos have something that's really hard to get right now. They are a place you want to play. Yeah. And if you're an agent or a player you see upside, you see ownership, you see the future and you know the postseason and all those things. It's a perfect runway now to to be in an advantageous position.

00;52;38;22 - 00;52;49;08

Tom Green

If you get into a close bidding war with an like if you know, as good as John Harbaugh is, the Giants are terrible. So I mean, if you want to go line up and go, you know, go seven Bo.

00;52;49;08 - 00;53;14;09

Woody Paige

Nix and Bo Nix is an attraction. Yeah. Peyton Manning was an attraction. I mean, every every free agent wanted to come play for Peyton. There was not the same kind of free agent situation when. When John was here. Elway. So that was a, you know, that was drafting. And, you know, he Dan Reeves didn't do a very good job.

00;53;14;09 - 00;53;31;13

Woody Paige

Are we are we the the Broncos would have probably won more Super Bowls. He got them there by himself. So Nix is a track and an attraction. People like like him because they like I think the free agents are going to really like playing with him.

00;53;31;15 - 00;53;33;11

Ron Zappolo

I think they're going to like playing so often.

00;53;33;13 - 00;53;33;26

Woody Paige

I think.

00;53;33;26 - 00;53;34;06

Ron Zappolo

You like.

00;53;34;06 - 00;53;35;12

Speaker 3

Sean. You know, you.

00;53;35;12 - 00;53;40;02

Woody Paige

Honed in on 2 or 3 wide receivers that you got to get one. You got.

00;53;40;05 - 00;53;43;22

Ron Zappolo

I would say either Rasheed Shaheed or Alec Pierce, all those guys.

00;53;43;22 - 00;53;47;18

Tom Green

Would you? I think if they got either one of those guys, it would be a huge trade.

00;53;47;21 - 00;54;03;12

Woody Paige

I had the third, the third was running back, so those two, you guys were hit totally on those two positions. I think Reese Hall is my guy, running back Jets. He played for Horseshit Team.

00;54;03;12 - 00;54;05;11

Tom Green

But we saw one of his best games ever here. Yes we.

00;54;05;11 - 00;54;05;24

Speaker 3

Do.

00;54;05;26 - 00;54;14;14

Woody Paige

And he's a play. Well, here. And that would be he does. He's had injury problems. They are all problems.

00;54;14;14 - 00;54;21;27

Tom Green

He's played almost every game the last three years. And he. So I would appear to be well past the ACL that he hurt.

00;54;21;27 - 00;54;25;17

Ron Zappolo

And when he want to get out of like one of the most dysfunctional.

00;54;25;20 - 00;54;26;20

Tom Green

Well he's gone somewhere.

00;54;26;24 - 00;54;27;27

Ron Zappolo

He's going somewhere.

00;54;27;27 - 00;54;28;22

Tom Green

Anywhere but here.

00;54;28;22 - 00;54;42;12

Woody Paige

With you had to pay him a lot of money too because he's worked himself into. Let me ask you, though, if you had likely and you had either Pearce or Shaheen and you got Breece Hall, you ready? Go. I mean.

00;54;42;12 - 00;54;43;27

Tom Green

I have an inside linebacker.

00;54;43;29 - 00;54;45;10

Ron Zappolo

We have you guys. I don't.

00;54;45;10 - 00;54;45;20

Speaker 3

Need it.

00;54;45;20 - 00;54;50;17

Woody Paige

Insider I get those three guys. You know, I find it inside the reviews.

00;54;50;17 - 00;54;56;06

Ron Zappolo

Do either of you think that, resigning Jake Dobbins is a good idea?

00;54;56;09 - 00;55;08;02

Tom Green

I do in general. You know, then you start to get into the stuff that you don't really have. Like, it's always fun to do someone else's budget. But if you could have signed Jake Dobbins at the right number. But I think.

00;55;08;04 - 00;55;21;02

Ron Zappolo

I like Woody's idea, though. I think I'd rather have Breece. Oh, totally. Because I think he's healthier and he's more younger, and he's more, breakaway. He. Jake Dobbins gets tough yards. Breece Hall.

00;55;21;04 - 00;55;22;25

Tom Green

And I'd like to have both of I.

00;55;22;26 - 00;55;43;21

Woody Paige

Would say this Dobbins. Is doing a great job of marketing. Yeah. Himself to come back to the Broncos. Yes. He he wants to be here. But do we agree reason. If I can't get Breece Hall, then Matt can't get somebody. I don't trust his injury history.

00;55;43;21 - 00;55;45;03

Tom Green

Right. It's pretty consistent.

00;55;45;03 - 00;55;53;17

Woody Paige

I like him as a runner. I think he's got a good attitude toward the Broncos. He he loves having played here. Again you want to play here.

00;55;53;18 - 00;55;54;27

Ron Zappolo

There's some good you want to play here.

00;55;55;02 - 00;56;12;25

Woody Paige

Even though we rip on rip it's too short. We we have negative feelings about Sean Payton. On how he runs the offense at times. But they want to play for him I mean he yeah. Players all over the league say man he's a brilliant.

00;56;12;26 - 00;56;13;06

Ron Zappolo

Yeah they.

00;56;13;06 - 00;56;38;04

Woody Paige

Want offensive. But I got those three I can I can deal with signing what I I'll tell you the additional thing and I may there's a there's left tackle at Utah who came out of Utah balls. There's a left tackle at Utah that had draft number one and set him up to take Garrett Bolts place at the end.

00;56;38;06 - 00;56;42;23

Woody Paige

And I think if I can get those four guys I'm ready to play about anybody I would.

00;56;42;23 - 00;56;57;07

Tom Green

Worry about because I think Garrett Bowls is got plenty of life left in there. I would say drafting a left tackle right now, especially early, would be a lot like drafting Tommy Maddox. I think you're you're you're all all set at left tackle for 3 or 4.

00;56;57;07 - 00;56;59;04

Ron Zappolo

More gentle way of disagreeing.

00;56;59;06 - 00;57;03;10

Woody Paige

But Bolds and I you know, I had him on the whatever.

00;57;03;10 - 00;57;04;25

Speaker 3

We after.

00;57;04;25 - 00;57;05;05

Tom Green

The Super.

00;57;05;05 - 00;57;19;04

Woody Paige

Bowl super size or something. He came out with me for about 30 minutes and I, I love him and I'm sure he's going to want to play three more years. Who was the guy who played for LA that is now on the NFL Andrew Prime.

00;57;19;10 - 00;57;20;16

Tom Green

Oh Andrew Whitworth and.

00;57;20;18 - 00;57;33;23

Woody Paige

Yeah I mean he played forever referenced like 41 Cincinnati I'll come back one more year or something. I consider him that Garrett loves playing. He's going to keep coming back. He wants his son and his brother to what?

00;57;33;25 - 00;57;50;04

Tom Green

But this team's drafting for now. And your first round pick has got to be a guy who's going to play now. I think, you know, even if you stay at 30, the Broncos need to draft a guy who's going to impact them in the present. So depending on what's on the board, if they're still at 30, it could be a tight end.

00;57;50;07 - 00;57;52;26

Tom Green

If if Canyon City.

00;57;52;26 - 00;58;02;17

Woody Paige

I am tired, I am tired. Oh, Lord. How long do they have to keep drafting tight ends. Well you know.

00;58;02;17 - 00;58;04;01

Speaker 3

They you know, they trail.

00;58;04;08 - 00;58;09;28

Ron Zappolo

They drafted the only tight end out of Iowa that wasn't any good in the last 15 years.

00;58;09;28 - 00;58;14;05

Woody Paige

So I don't want to draft a tight end because I don't think body.

00;58;14;07 - 00;58;26;24

Ron Zappolo

I agree with that. I want a tight end that I know, not Evan Ingram. I want a tight end that I know that I've seen. Right. And that's why I like Isaiah likely. Yeah I've watched him I've seen what he does.

00;58;26;26 - 00;58;51;10

Tom Green

Well they'll have this is the sequence though because we go to the combine. Then we go to the three weeks from now free agency starts and then you have the draft. So today you have to do things in order. Right. And so it'll be interesting to see how they fare in free agency, which will then certainly impact their draft because I would think they're expecting and George Payton has done a good job drafting to draft a player at one, which they didn't do this past year.

00;58;51;10 - 00;59;09;21

Tom Green

And today Barron, who's going to play a lot in some position and probably a two and three and four, hope that you hit on a couple more players who are going to, if not start, play a lot of football for you. So, that sequence of events is built for a reason. And they have I don't think of their own free.

00;59;09;22 - 00;59;30;04

Ron Zappolo

I have one more question for you because like, unlike Woody, I do watch a lot of television sports. I keep seeing these stories that the Broncos should trade instead of draft or son free agent. They should trade for AJ Brown. Is there any interest in that?

00;59;30;07 - 00;59;47;24

Woody Paige

I think those are people that are fans that play fantasy football like you, and I think it's like an ambassador. Nuggets basketball fans kept saying let's trade for Giannis.

00;59;47;26 - 00;59;49;26

Ron Zappolo

Yeah no. But here's the.

00;59;49;26 - 00;59;50;27

Woody Paige

Problem. You give a little.

00;59;50;27 - 00;59;51;12

Tom Green

Give you 100.

00;59;51;12 - 00;59;58;26

Ron Zappolo

Right. So here's the problem with AJ Brown Boston. He's not a good player. Do you think AJ Brown would be different in Denver than he is in Philadelphia.

00;59;58;26 - 01;00;01;17

Woody Paige

It's not. No. That's so that's a whoever.

01;00;01;24 - 01;00;02;13

Ron Zappolo

They get.

01;00;02;15 - 01;00;07;15

Woody Paige

If you're out there and you're saying agent no no forget that. No some somebody has.

01;00;07;15 - 01;00;12;07

Speaker 5

The writer Bill Barnwell we're talking to you. He he's leading that apparently.

01;00;12;12 - 01;00;14;11

Ron Zappolo

But AJ Brown thing. Yeah yeah.

01;00;14;11 - 01;00;17;05

Tom Green

See I see price is that as well.

01;00;17;07 - 01;00;23;06

Ron Zappolo

That's you know they'll want picks and you know stuff like that. I just don't want AJ Brown.

01;00;23;09 - 01;00;32;29

Woody Paige

I'll say this for Bill Barnwell. I work with him lately. He was the late cover to run the horn. He writes longer than anybody.

01;00;32;29 - 01;00;34;15

Ron Zappolo

He writes long hair, right?

01;00;34;15 - 01;00;36;12

Woody Paige

He does more, an.

01;00;36;12 - 01;00;37;00

Tom Green

Expensive.

01;00;37;02 - 01;00;47;22

Woody Paige

Look. He does more research than you did. Yeah, that was that was very impressive. Right. Well, thank you, but Bill is as human as the rest of us. And he makes mistake.

01;00;47;27 - 01;00;51;18

Ron Zappolo

He's he's wrong. So. But you're right. He wouldn't be.

01;00;51;18 - 01;00;53;22

Woody Paige

Right for me. And tell him he's wrong.

01;00;53;22 - 01;00;59;27

Ron Zappolo

He writes documentaries. I mean, they're just. You gotta you need, like, an hour to sit down and show me one column.

01;00;59;29 - 01;01;05;21

Woody Paige

And when we be on the show together, I go, Bill. Yeah. The 30 minutes.

01;01;05;23 - 01;01;07;19

Speaker 3

Hey, in. Oh.

01;01;07;22 - 01;01;16;10

Woody Paige

He did like, it's I. And I'd say his name wrong all the time. My name is Barnwell and I go Bard bad.

01;01;16;12 - 01;01;18;16

Tom Green

Hey, I saw this morning our friend Thomas Harding.

01;01;18;16 - 01;01;29;23

Woody Paige

That's good. Anyway, just to end on that, that was very impressive, the research you did. But what was it? He did all the research, and I did, like two minutes every 20 we got.

01;01;29;29 - 01;01;30;18

Ron Zappolo

Got the same.

01;01;30;18 - 01;01;31;27

Tom Green

Stuff. He got hit, got him.

01;01;31;28 - 01;01;34;12

Ron Zappolo

He took me an hour. It only took him two minutes.

01;01;34;13 - 01;01;35;02

Tom Green

Oh, you got to read the book.

01;01;35;02 - 01;01;47;10

Woody Paige

You look at it, you go, that's you looking for. Yes. You can go try and get hits that, that that, wraps a situation where they give you all your money.

01;01;47;12 - 01;01;50;23

Ron Zappolo

You've. Yeah, you're putting your all your eggs in his basket.

01;01;50;24 - 01;01;55;02

Woody Paige

Because you had the point. You find somebody that's undervalued.

01;01;55;04 - 01;01;58;17

Ron Zappolo

That's good. That hasn't that is under the radar.

01;01;58;17 - 01;02;08;20

Tom Green

Well they did that. They did that last year with guys. And they got him at bargain because they were hurt and dragged down low, stayed hurt, happened. You know it's no fun to play great. You know some guys it works out.

01;02;08;21 - 01;02;19;22

Woody Paige

And you can keep being Graham. You can keep him. You can see if you want to him. I thought he was a by the way he was promoted. The new joker. That's a bad term. And this.

01;02;19;23 - 01;02;21;04

Tom Green

They got a whole bunch that's.

01;02;21;04 - 01;02;28;25

Woody Paige

Over that that did this. Yeah that that. And he's he's bargaining to try and come back. Yeah. Everybody that they did sign they he.

01;02;28;25 - 01;02;30;29

Tom Green

Has a deal. They'll have to buy him out or move.

01;02;30;29 - 01;02;48;15

Ron Zappolo

They you talking Evan Engram of the three guys. Anybody that watched in the nation for a long time. And I have because he was a giant. Yeah. And a Jack. He's one of those guys. That looks great. Sounds great number one pick. But when you look at the numbers never they're never that good. By the way not to change a subject.

01;02;48;15 - 01;03;07;23

Ron Zappolo

I read a story last night, about Peyton Watson and how the Lakers are going to go all in for Peyton Watson this summer when he's a free agent. How do we keep great Mason elder rich? How do we keep Peyton Watson? You don't.

01;03;07;26 - 01;03;08;14

Woody Paige

You don't.

01;03;08;16 - 01;03;10;07

Ron Zappolo

You're not going to keep. So he's gone.

01;03;10;07 - 01;03;16;01

Woody Paige

He's he wants to be the guy he's been mentored by. Kevin.

01;03;16;01 - 01;03;19;08

Ron Zappolo

Oh, I got news for him. He ain't going to be the guy with the Lakers.

01;03;19;15 - 01;03;20;09

Tom Green

You know, they've got a guy.

01;03;20;13 - 01;03;22;02

Ron Zappolo

They've got a guy that's.

01;03;22;02 - 01;03;23;16

Speaker 3

Speaking of a guy. I'm just.

01;03;23;17 - 01;03;33;26

Woody Paige

Well, I'm not saying you're saying the Lakers are going all the you know I'm saying like Michael Porter Jr Michael Porter juniors find out. Yeah I am now the guy.

01;03;33;27 - 01;03;34;11

Speaker 3

I'm the guy.

01;03;34;11 - 01;03;39;16

Woody Paige

That's our code word. I'm the guy I guess what I played for horseshit.

01;03;39;16 - 01;03;40;29

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. It sucks.

01;03;41;01 - 01;03;47;02

Woody Paige

I'm paying for a horseshit team to get rid of me. So I'm going to go to Malky, and I'm will play for another horseshit.

01;03;47;02 - 01;04;03;26

Tom Green

Let's say you're the. Let's say you're the nuggets and you go into the postseason because of all the health issues. You get into the postseason. You can everything from winning NBA championship to likely not lose in a first round, but lose too early. You could get bounced early if you're not healthy, not playing sharp.

01;04;03;27 - 01;04;04;08

Woody Paige

Well.

01;04;04;08 - 01;04;17;06

Tom Green

Health. And so let's say you go into the offseason on one of those notes, something like that. You know, maybe you're going to make a big move and create space for Peyton Watson. Maybe you're going to make room for him and say, we got to shake the table.

01;04;17;06 - 01;04;40;01

Ron Zappolo

I just think it's so hard to find young ascending terrific. And keep them and keep them that maybe if you have a creative GM like Brad Stevens or the Pressley one or Alt Steve Kerr, you find a way to your point. Yeah. How can I move this around where I can keep it mean we talked about this before.

01;04;40;01 - 01;04;44;14

Ron Zappolo

Well, the mistake they made was given Christian Braun the money. Yeah.

01;04;44;21 - 01;04;50;03

Tom Green

And leaving him and they like I mean they like Christian. It's not that it's, you know.

01;04;50;05 - 01;04;54;17

Ron Zappolo

But I like Christian Brown too. But but Peyton Watson ceiling.

01;04;54;17 - 01;05;05;07

Woody Paige

But they what they did over the years is they really evaporated the draft with the good decision. They made the bad decisions.

01;05;05;10 - 01;05;07;11

Tom Green

Well they drafted Peyton Watson.

01;05;07;13 - 01;05;10;25

Woody Paige

Yeah. That's why I said that. There have been some picks.

01;05;10;25 - 01;05;11;14

Tom Green

Yeah.

01;05;11;17 - 01;05;13;03

Woody Paige

And he was. But he.

01;05;13;03 - 01;05;15;03

Tom Green

Loves Joker. Joker's been his.

01;05;15;03 - 01;05;16;12

Ron Zappolo

Well he could love Luka too.

01;05;16;12 - 01;05;18;03

Speaker 3

Yeah it can be learned.

01;05;18;03 - 01;05;18;15

Tom Green

To love you.

01;05;18;15 - 01;05;32;28

Woody Paige

Say, how do you keep him? Yeah. There's only way. One way you keep him. And that's who you just mentioned. Who is the guy he loves more than anybody in the world? The Joker. Yeah. And if the Joker goes to him and says, I want you to be on my side.

01;05;32;28 - 01;05;37;00

Ron Zappolo

And pick, Watson says, good. I want to be on your side. But are you going to pay me?

01;05;37;03 - 01;05;40;00

Tom Green

Yeah, well, they get they get in that box. I always remember I heard.

01;05;40;00 - 01;05;44;16

Ron Zappolo

This about players. They all want to be paid and they all respect the fact that guys want to.

01;05;44;16 - 01;05;55;10

Woody Paige

Get good at the pay and before they have to do it, but then you're going to have to get rid of Brooks. I mean, you're going to have to get rid of Gordon. I'm sorry. Well, you're going to have to get rid of Gordon. You're going to have to get rid of you're going to have to.

01;05;55;13 - 01;05;57;29

Tom Green

It's going to take, like I said, very creative. You're going to be.

01;05;58;00 - 01;05;58;09

Ron Zappolo

Very.

01;05;58;09 - 01;06;07;05

Tom Green

Creative. But if they determined that is their best path forward, like say we need to keep Peyton Watson. Like I said, see they stagger through a bad playoff coming.

01;06;07;11 - 01;06;32;15

Ron Zappolo

Not a bad playoff. Let's just say they win their first round series and they lose in seven games to the Spurs. Right. And and Woody and I talked about this last week. It might be one of those years time where they're they're just not healthy enough because they haven't been all year. But I it it's imperative to your point that they sit down and come up with a creative response to how do I keep our team together?

01;06;32;15 - 01;06;36;11

Tom Green

Yeah. Or how do we get better? Or how do I get or healthier or young? But I know.

01;06;36;11 - 01;06;41;12

Ron Zappolo

This if Peyton Watson leaves is a free agent, you're not better.

01;06;41;14 - 01;07;09;20

Woody Paige

But you can do it because of the tier system. If if one reason Stan Kroenke has done it quietly, do us people in Colorado, he has done it in England. He has spent a fortune with Arsenal. They go they go spend billions of dollars on players. He's done it with the Rams. He has got to make the decision and I think I know him better.

01;07;09;22 - 01;07;18;19

Woody Paige

Not lately. I know him closer than probably anybody in Colorado in the media for sure that he just didn't want to spend.

01;07;18;22 - 01;07;19;24

Ron Zappolo

Okay, I'm even.

01;07;19;24 - 01;07;22;28

Woody Paige

Though basketball is his favorite sport, it doesn't mean he's got to go.

01;07;22;28 - 01;07;24;17

Tom Green

The sun is running.

01;07;24;22 - 01;07;51;11

Ron Zappolo

You know what he reminds me of John Henry? These billionaires that have multiple franchises in multiple leagues. And he hit the nail on the head. It comes down to does he want to take one asset, which is all they are is one asset in a portfolio of assets. And does he want to spend a lot of money? I know John Henry doesn't want to and I'm not clear.

01;07;51;12 - 01;07;54;05

Ron Zappolo

I'm yeah I'm not sure stinkiest.

01;07;54;07 - 01;08;18;21

Woody Paige

Aspect of that. I think he gets so much shit in England. Yeah. He gets more grief than he's ever gotten in Germany or in Los Angeles or even Saint Louis. When he took the team away, because they're they're so passionate that it's way beyond what we're doing here. And he's reacted to that by doing whatever good they better stadium.

01;08;18;21 - 01;08;41;12

Woody Paige

You know, he's built stadiums and everything. And the Rams, he really thought he was going to win it again. You he's just got to have enough you know to go beyond that. He's going to build that village around ball arena that he's got a he it's the biggest landowner in the country. He's got more money invested in sports.

01;08;41;17 - 01;09;00;02

Woody Paige

You know, he's got like $10 billion rested and and teams. He is just, I can't understand him sometimes because he's a basketball fan. His son is a basketball fan. They're both they don't give a shit about hockey. Hockey. They don't give a shit about soccer. They know that.

01;09;00;04 - 01;09;00;24

Ron Zappolo

They're basketball.

01;09;00;24 - 01;09;13;00

Woody Paige

Guys. They don't care about the, the rapids or the mammoths. They don't even know they have a team called The Man. But. But he's got to. He's. This is when he's got it. Yes. They can keep.

01;09;13;01 - 01;09;31;03

Tom Green

It's going to be it's going to require creativity and that's that'll be interesting because they're going to have to they're going to have to take a from an outside angle. Look at their team. Hey, I have two baseball things I want to get to show on. One is it doesn't look good for Kris Bryant. I saw Thomas Harding talk with him today.

01;09;31;03 - 01;09;32;15

Woody Paige

Don't talk to.

01;09;32;16 - 01;09;33;05

Tom Green

He's got some.

01;09;33;11 - 01;09;34;15

Woody Paige

Privacy. Talk to him.

01;09;34;20 - 01;09;50;10

Tom Green

He's got chronic pain and it's chronic. Each day hurts. And it's not when it hurt like bad. Yeah. And the other one was I can't believe I forgot to mention earlier Max mercy, one of my favorite roles of Robert Duvall when he was the sportswriter in The.

01;09;50;10 - 01;09;51;14

Ron Zappolo

Natural and the natural.

01;09;51;17 - 01;09;56;21

Tom Green

And yeah, he he says in first and he has to umpire when he strikes out the winner at the.

01;09;56;23 - 01;09;57;11

Ron Zappolo

End of that.

01;09;57;11 - 01;09;58;13

Woody Paige

And you know that really.

01;09;58;14 - 01;10;01;06

Ron Zappolo

The women at the train stop that was so good.

01;10;01;06 - 01;10;03;15

Tom Green

That's when the that's when the lady decides to kill him.

01;10;03;15 - 01;10;04;14

Speaker 3

Yeah. Yeah.

01;10;04;15 - 01;10;11;24

Woody Paige

I, I really had a negative opinion of him though, because I can't draw in the he.

01;10;11;25 - 01;10;13;00

Speaker 3

Remember the.

01;10;13;02 - 01;10;15;28

Tom Green

Guy the great sports columnist.

01;10;15;29 - 01;10;18;25

Ron Zappolo

The natural was like 35, 40 years old is.

01;10;18;25 - 01;10;19;21

Speaker 3

Yeah.

01;10;19;24 - 01;10;22;17

Ron Zappolo

Hey, can I ask you one more question before we go?

01;10;22;19 - 01;10;24;09

Woody Paige

We get addressed the peanut butter.

01;10;24;13 - 01;10;25;08

Speaker 3

Okay. Yeah.

01;10;25;10 - 01;10;32;01

Ron Zappolo

Before we get to the peanut butter issue, if you don't want to talk about. We don't have to. What do you think of Pam Bundy's performance last week?

01;10;32;03 - 01;10;45;14

Woody Paige

What's it I did to that? That I think, was the most disrespectful. I'm going to put that way. The most disrespectful appearance in the history of Congress.

01;10;45;16 - 01;10;48;02

Tom Green

I found it to be detached from reality. Or at least.

01;10;48;05 - 01;10;49;05

Woody Paige

She.

01;10;49;08 - 01;10;53;06

Tom Green

Was. Yeah, I was glued to the detach.

01;10;53;08 - 01;11;01;18

Ron Zappolo

That a cabinet secretary could get up there in front of Congress, and you're supposed to at least answer questions.

01;11;01;18 - 01;11;03;20

Woody Paige

She wouldn't answer. She wouldn't answer a question.

01;11;03;23 - 01;11;17;01

Ron Zappolo

And some of those questions weren't questions that are hard to answer. Like when Nadler said to her, are you going to indict any other coconspirators? It's not that hard a question, yes or no? Whatever. She just refused to answer.

01;11;17;01 - 01;11;17;12

Woody Paige

But it was.

01;11;17;12 - 01;11;19;15

Tom Green

Said. So you're saying you didn't like it?

01;11;19;18 - 01;11;22;00

Ron Zappolo

Well, I just thought it was embarrassing for all of us.

01;11;22;00 - 01;11;23;11

Woody Paige

So I said, disrespectful.

01;11;23;14 - 01;11;24;09

Ron Zappolo

Disrespectful.

01;11;24;09 - 01;11;31;21

Woody Paige

I think this was common who she was. She was her performance. Put it that way. Yeah. Was for one person.

01;11;31;22 - 01;11;33;06

Tom Green

Yeah. Again, she doesn't.

01;11;33;09 - 01;11;36;13

Woody Paige

She doesn't want to lose that cushy job. She is.

01;11;36;16 - 01;11;37;25

Ron Zappolo

Now you want to get the peanut butter going?

01;11;37;26 - 01;11;43;12

Tom Green

Yeah. Because I'm curious about because maybe she's going to step in on this. Maybe she's going to handle the beef.

01;11;43;12 - 01;11;46;27

Woody Paige

I ask her what the question of asking you. The two of you, she.

01;11;46;27 - 01;11;50;04

Ron Zappolo

Just say you're an elder rich guy. You don't know anything else?

01;11;50;07 - 01;11;50;14

Speaker 3

No.

01;11;50;14 - 01;11;53;20

Speaker 5

That's their favorite. That that's who they serve.

01;11;53;23 - 01;11;55;11

Speaker 3

And guess what I mean?

01;11;55;14 - 01;11;58;15

Woody Paige

I am elderly, so I'm forgetful and stuff.

01;11;58;16 - 01;12;01;01

Tom Green

That's a protected class, by the way, young lady week, when.

01;12;01;01 - 01;12;03;02

Speaker 3

You're working for a middle class that.

01;12;03;02 - 01;12;05;02

Speaker 5

Was wealthy. So it was like next.

01;12;05;02 - 01;12;07;13

Ron Zappolo

Week when there's three younger guys here.

01;12;07;13 - 01;12;09;15

Speaker 3

Remember us? Yeah.

01;12;09;22 - 01;12;11;17

Woody Paige

That you that you were repealed.

01;12;11;17 - 01;12;14;01

Ron Zappolo

Us yes. The show three older.

01;12;14;06 - 01;12;17;11

Tom Green

If there are three younger guys here, it's because we're talking about buyer.

01;12;17;11 - 01;12;18;01

Ron Zappolo

Yes for.

01;12;18;01 - 01;12;19;06

Speaker 3

Sure. What did you think.

01;12;19;06 - 01;12;23;21

Woody Paige

Of Pam body. You're a woman. You're a powerful woman.

01;12;23;24 - 01;12;35;27

Speaker 5

Oh. You don't know? You don't want to get me started. I I'm with you, you guys. I try to keep my mouth shut when we talk to politics, because I've got such big feelings. A disgrace is an understatement.

01;12;35;27 - 01;12;37;15

Ron Zappolo

It's okay to share them with us.

01;12;37;19 - 01;12;43;06

Woody Paige

Okay, well, let me ask you a question. You oil. What kind of peanut butter do you eat? Do you eat?

01;12;43;12 - 01;12;44;12

Tom Green

Is it fancy or mashed?

01;12;44;17 - 01;12;48;00

Ron Zappolo

I am a he always say I'm a huge peanut butter guy.

01;12;48;02 - 01;13;01;14

Speaker 5

Love peanut butter. If now as an adult, allowed to buy my own because I grew up in one of those, they, you know, they call them almond household. Okay, tell mom I had an almond dad. And so I didn't get to have the fun. The fun, the jiffy, the whatever.

01;13;01;19 - 01;13;02;21

Tom Green

Jif and Skippy.

01;13;02;24 - 01;13;03;09

Speaker 5

Yeah. I mean.

01;13;03;09 - 01;13;04;19

Speaker 3

Those are good.

01;13;04;21 - 01;13;05;06

Woody Paige

Actually.

01;13;05;06 - 01;13;09;03

Speaker 5

Yeah. So it's Jif and then Skippy. Yes. Okay.

01;13;09;05 - 01;13;09;25

Woody Paige

Yeah.

01;13;09;28 - 01;13;13;12

Tom Green

But now they're flavors of them, not flavors. But. Well.

01;13;13;15 - 01;13;14;26

Ron Zappolo

The other key thing.

01;13;14;26 - 01;13;15;24

Speaker 5

People are so like.

01;13;15;24 - 01;13;22;11

Ron Zappolo

It's you have to decide if you like the smooth peanut butter or the chunky. Like, I like the chunky.

01;13;22;11 - 01;13;25;01

Speaker 5

I like chunky, but I like them both. I'm not somebody.

01;13;25;01 - 01;13;28;17

Woody Paige

Okay, so we're talking about Peter Pan. We're talking about scooters.

01;13;28;19 - 01;13;28;29

Ron Zappolo

And.

01;13;29;06 - 01;13;30;08

Woody Paige

We're talking about Jif.

01;13;30;08 - 01;13;31;08

Ron Zappolo

Oh, good.

01;13;31;10 - 01;13;32;22

Woody Paige

That are the three big?

01;13;32;25 - 01;13;33;05

Speaker 3

Yeah.

01;13;33;05 - 01;13;54;16

Woody Paige

The big three. And Jif is in that recall. I mean and that's what I have in my, Well, I had it. Now it's in my garbage because the label number was exactly what I have. But I just wondered, and I looked at I was recently looking that up online. I said, I wonder what the world likes.

01;13;54;16 - 01;14;17;03

Woody Paige

And it's Jif and Skippy and Peter Pan, which was my mother's choice. I grew up on Peter Pan. That's fall, and that's doesn't have the same strength of popularity that I used to. It's down to Jif, but the other way that people go is the ones where you have to that's, you know, you open up the jar and it's like, look.

01;14;17;05 - 01;14;21;05

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, I don't, I don't think, oh, you don't want the liquid in the no no no no no.

01;14;21;09 - 01;14;22;15

Woody Paige

So there's natural.

01;14;22;15 - 01;14;26;23

Speaker 5

Thing that's the almond butter tea. That's what I grew up on is the real organic like, yeah.

01;14;26;24 - 01;14;28;22

Ron Zappolo

There's nothing better than that.

01;14;28;24 - 01;14;32;01

Speaker 5

Never mind. I shouldn't have to, like, churn butter too.

01;14;32;03 - 01;14;38;04

Tom Green

Well, that's when you go over to a friend's house and they had what you wanted. Oh, or you go to a friend's house and they had this stuff. You.

01;14;38;07 - 01;14;41;01

Woody Paige

Well, how about chunky versus scream?

01;14;41;04 - 01;14;41;29

Ron Zappolo

I like chunky.

01;14;42;05 - 01;14;48;04

Tom Green

I prefer chunky, but I'm also, as you guys might already thought, not that selective.

01;14;48;07 - 01;14;51;21

Speaker 3

You're not that. So like I'm like yeah, that's good. Do you have you then whatever.

01;14;51;23 - 01;14;53;10

Speaker 5

You know what a ruffle feathers.

01;14;53;10 - 01;15;03;07

Woody Paige

I would think that, Ron put a lot of, effort into this. Do you know what you got? The pocket, that peanut butter.

01;15;03;08 - 01;15;05;08

Ron Zappolo

You know, I got a little peanut butter here.

01;15;05;08 - 01;15;06;28

Tom Green

Somewhere called calories.

01;15;07;04 - 01;15;09;12

Speaker 3

I got all that. Yeah. Very proud.

01;15;09;12 - 01;15;09;21

Ron Zappolo

Of my.

01;15;09;21 - 01;15;11;09

Woody Paige

Effort. What does it. I mean.

01;15;11;09 - 01;15;15;16

Tom Green

So what was it being recalled for? Is this list but salmonella.

01;15;15;19 - 01;15;16;04

Speaker 3

Yeah.

01;15;16;07 - 01;15;25;26

Woody Paige

Because there's plastic in. Yeah. Not it's not peanut butter but it's in the company that. Yeah produces that distributes it.

01;15;25;28 - 01;15;36;21

Tom Green

But when you describe reading the numbers off and hitting the numbers, all I could think of was every time you watch the lottery and none of your numbers come up. And yet when you have the poison peanut butter.

01;15;36;24 - 01;15;37;25

Speaker 3

Ding ding ding.

01;15;37;25 - 01;15;41;29

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, that's you can't get a damn lottery ticket. But I got the.

01;15;42;02 - 01;15;49;03

Woody Paige

Numbers on the label. I got those right. Well, so. And I'm probably going to die. I'm going to have, you know, I'm going to be here next.

01;15;49;03 - 01;15;52;06

Ron Zappolo

Where it's been recalled in like 30 or 40.

01;15;52;06 - 01;15;57;06

Woody Paige

States. Guess what? We're winners here. Colorado's what places?

01;15;57;06 - 01;16;00;07

Tom Green

40 states 40 is going to be. How many are there in total?

01;16;00;10 - 01;16;01;11

Woody Paige

50.

01;16;01;14 - 01;16;04;06

Ron Zappolo

Well, there's there's red states and there's blue states.

01;16;04;11 - 01;16;06;21

Speaker 5

I was going to say it depends on who's on who.

01;16;06;21 - 01;16;07;18

Ron Zappolo

Yeah.

01;16;07;21 - 01;16;08;06

Speaker 3

The purple.

01;16;08;06 - 01;16;09;06

Tom Green

States. But do we.

01;16;09;06 - 01;16;09;20

Speaker 3

Lose.

01;16;09;20 - 01;16;11;23

Woody Paige

Puerto Rico because bad Bunny.

01;16;11;23 - 01;16;12;01

Tom Green

Bad.

01;16;12;01 - 01;16;14;03

Woody Paige

Bunny qualifies an American?

01;16;14;03 - 01;16;21;20

Tom Green

I don't know if they're recalling the peanut butter there, fellas. There's always great chocolate. Natasha, thanks for spending your your time with us. We love seeing you.

01;16;21;20 - 01;16;22;07

Speaker 3

Yeah, but.

01;16;22;07 - 01;16;23;11

Ron Zappolo

I like.

01;16;23;14 - 01;16;25;12

Speaker 5

Peanut butter and watch kicking and screaming.

01;16;25;15 - 01;16;26;04

Ron Zappolo

01;16;26;04 - 01;16;27;19
