After the Horn

After the Horn Ep. 34 | Super Bowl 60, and Who Will Call Plays for the Broncos

Episode Summary

On this extended Super Bowl week edition of After the Horn, Woody Paige, Ron Zappolo, and Tom Green dig into the Broncos’ offensive coordinator change and what it actually signals about Sean Payton’s control of the offense. The discussion centers on Davis Webb’s promotion, the play-calling question, and the evolving power dynamic between Payton and Bo Nix. From there, the show broadens into a candid conversation about the Pro Football Hall of Fame, transparency in voting, and why the exclusion of figures like Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft exposes deeper flaws in the process. In the second half of the episode, the focus shifts to the Nuggets and Avalanche, including Denver’s reality check against Oklahoma City, Nikola Jokic’s role, Peyton Watson’s rapid rise, roster and trade-deadline pressure, and where both teams truly stand as the season progresses.

Episode Notes

This Super Bowl week episode opens with perspective on NFL history and the current state of the league before zeroing in on the Broncos’ offseason questions. The panel examines whether Davis Webb’s move to offensive coordinator represents a real shift in play-calling responsibility or simply reinforces Sean Payton’s command, and how that decision affects Bo Nix, locker-room relationships, and long-term organizational balance. The conversation then turns to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with Woody Paige offering firsthand insight into the voting room, the problems created by anonymous ballots, and why transparency matters when evaluating legacies such as Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft, and Mike Shanahan. In the final portion of the show, attention turns to Denver’s winter sports teams, as the Nuggets’ loss to Oklahoma City sparks an honest assessment of Nikola Jokic, the emergence of Peyton Watson, health concerns, and the urgency surrounding the NBA trade deadline, along with discussion of the Avalanche and where both teams fit among true contenders.

Episode Transcription

00;00;00;00 - 00;00;33;13

Tom Green

The Broncos have a new offensive coordinator. The question is, will he be calling the plays? We're going to talk about it on After the Horn. And if you are a member of the dynasty, that is and was the New England Patriots, you're headed to the Hall of Fame. Maybe not so fast, my friend.

00;00;33;16 - 00;00;38;26

Ron Zappolo

We were just talking about the barrel man. He's in that Tim McKernan. McKernan? Yeah. United.

00;00;38;28 - 00;00;41;23

Woody Paige

Yeah. Baggage handler. United Airlines.

00;00;41;23 - 00;00;47;04

Ron Zappolo

United Airlines mechanic. Yeah. Which always made me wonder a little bit.

00;00;47;06 - 00;00;49;28

Tom Green

As long as he was in a different uniform, this a little better.

00;00;50;03 - 00;00;51;16

Ron Zappolo

Hey, welcome to After the Horn.

00;00;51;17 - 00;00;56;02

Woody Paige

I knew him for, like, 20 years, and I never looked down the barrel.

00;00;56;04 - 00;01;00;28

Ron Zappolo

Me neither. Smart. But he was an awfully nice man. Sure, he was friendly.

00;01;00;28 - 00;01;05;00

Tom Green

He was the epitome of Bronco fans. It was a long time.

00;01;05;01 - 00;01;09;11

Ron Zappolo

I'm sure there's a lot of young people that say, what the hell are they talking about?

00;01;09;14 - 00;01;14;11

Woody Paige

He had a barrel kid, that he had a son that would do that, but for people to know it.

00;01;14;11 - 00;01;15;10

Ron Zappolo

But there's only one better.

00;01;15;10 - 00;01;22;00

Woody Paige

More barrel. There was that for the Denver Broncos, who wear cowboy hats and cowboy boots. Cowboy boots. And we don't know, like,

00;01;22;02 - 00;01;22;19

Tom Green

That's what the.

00;01;22;19 - 00;01;30;13

Ron Zappolo

Story was. Cowboy hat. Cowboy boots. A barrel and a barrel.

00;01;30;16 - 00;01;33;16

Natasha

Now they do the barrel man competition. So the legend lives on.

00;01;33;18 - 00;01;34;15

Tom Green

The legend lives.

00;01;34;15 - 00;01;46;02

Ron Zappolo

On. We always worried about the barrel, man. It was organic. It wasn't like he won a contest. Or he just became super fan. And he was a barrel man. We all got the.

00;01;46;02 - 00;01;52;17

Woody Paige

Note, and he created a, cult of. Oh, there was a, like, a leprechaun.

00;01;52;18 - 00;01;53;14

Ron Zappolo

Leprechaun.

00;01;53;15 - 00;01;56;11

Woody Paige

Oh, yeah. And it was there, like five different. Well, I'm.

00;01;56;11 - 00;02;03;16

Ron Zappolo

Sorry, though, the leprechaun was a bad. The barrel is only one barrel. Yeah. Then there's all the into, you know.

00;02;03;19 - 00;02;21;05

Tom Green

So here we go. This is the Super Bowl week edition of After the Horn. First one again, thank our friends at Furniture Row for our fabulous furniture. We appreciate you. And we like the way it makes us feel. And the set looks as well. A very different show than we might have been. Having had Sean Payton kicked a field goal in the first half.

00;02;21;07 - 00;02;23;26

Ron Zappolo

A few days ago. Going to hammer them a little. Well, we'd be.

00;02;23;26 - 00;02;29;21

Tom Green

Doing a Broncos Super Bowl show. Then we'd be talking about can the Broncos hang with the Seattle Seahawks?

00;02;29;21 - 00;02;43;25

Woody Paige

Well, we should mention, though, that, girls sports and I'm involved. It will be doing shows from San Francisco. Nobody is doing shows. I, I know and they're calling it, a super sized.

00;02;44;01 - 00;02;44;25

Tom Green

Oh okay.

00;02;44;27 - 00;02;47;09

Ron Zappolo

We're looking forward to it. Tom and I will be watching.

00;02;47;16 - 00;03;11;24

Tom Green

60th Super Bowl. And this is interesting to me that you're going because, Woody and I were talking before about, how many Super Bowls you've been do, which is 40 something. 40 something. My dad went to the first Super Bowl. He was working out in Los Angeles. He made commercials, and he was shooting a commercial out there and was one of the people, infamously, on Saturday night before the Super Bowl was out with Max mixology.

00;03;11;26 - 00;03;19;07

Tom Green

I mean, among which there are many when when cuz boy Dowler got hurt and Max had to play star became Dowler touchdown.

00;03;19;07 - 00;03;21;17

Ron Zappolo

The race police got yes.

00;03;21;19 - 00;03;35;02

Tom Green

So but that was you know you think of Super Bowl one. In 1967. They sold about 60,000 of the 100,000 tickets that were available in the LA Coliseum. And two networks carried the game. Yeah that's right. That's different era.

00;03;35;02 - 00;03;38;10

Woody Paige

It was NFL was on ABC, if I remember correctly.

00;03;38;10 - 00;03;41;01

Tom Green

It was NBC for,

00;03;41;04 - 00;03;45;10

Ron Zappolo

Gowdy and Paul Chrisman. Yeah. Got a bit of aging ourselves badly.

00;03;45;13 - 00;03;57;06

Woody Paige

My first one was number nine, and I told him, you will remember this for one reason or two reasons you probably would remember. It was great game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

00;03;57;06 - 00;03;57;20

Ron Zappolo

Tremendous.

00;03;57;20 - 00;03;58;10

Woody Paige

What makes.

00;03;58;10 - 00;04;00;12

Ron Zappolo

It great was that the Jackie Smith game.

00;04;00;12 - 00;04;07;07

Tom Green

Where he no. That was this was an earlier version of Steelers Cowboys. This was the Lynn Swann vaulting in the air.

00;04;07;10 - 00;04;22;04

Woody Paige

But what is amazing about that and you'll know about this is that I sat there the entire day watching the blimp above us. And, not to name Robert Shaw because they were filming a movie called Black.

00;04;22;11 - 00;04;22;25

Ron Zappolo

Sunday.

00;04;23;02 - 00;04;39;08

Woody Paige

Which was about terrorist attacking the Super Bowl. And the NFL actually approved it, and it was about terrorist. And you know what happened after that in the world and in the Olympics. And so what is going on around the world?

00;04;39;09 - 00;04;59;23

Tom Green

Let's talk about Super Bowl 60. But in a variety of ways. There's a lot of football to talk about. Commissioner Goodell had his press conference, and one of the things he was forced to address or was asked to address was the Rooney Rule. Ten coaching vacancies come and go without a single a minority candidate, actually getting any of the jobs, even the coordinator positions.

00;04;59;26 - 00;05;11;24

Tom Green

So the Rooney Rule obviously has become something that teams clearly have to deal with only to navigate as opposed to try to have the impact that I think it was meant to have. Is there a way you can legislate?

00;05;11;27 - 00;05;33;20

Woody Paige

I told you guys a couple weeks ago that I thought that, for whatever word that, the Broncos defensive coordinator was this year's black guy, that every team used him. I'm putting it that way. You used him to fulfill the the Rooney Rule. And I don't think any of those teams. You know who it was before that.

00;05;33;20 - 00;06;06;16

Woody Paige

He's now back as the offensive defensive coordinator. Yeah, yeah. And the NFL how do they fix this. They fix it by making it, where I think in owners meetings it's got to be discussed that we meaning the NFL have to hire more minority offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators. That is where, head coaches generally come from. They don't come from college football.

00;06;06;16 - 00;06;28;12

Woody Paige

They don't come, they may come from a quarter being a quarterback coach for the Denver Broncos. But you've got to bear down. I think, no pun intended, about the bears, but, I think you got to bear down about that. Yes. When the sport is played by 75% minorities that the coaches have to sort of I don't I don't.

00;06;28;12 - 00;06;44;05

Tom Green

See the owners being able to fix it. I mean, the owners are more concerned with who is and who isn't on the Epstein list. It's not exactly a, you know, not because you are rich and on a football team doesn't make you good at social graces. So when you.

00;06;44;05 - 00;06;45;29

Woody Paige

Mean like a former Clippers.

00;06;46;02 - 00;06;46;21

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;06;46;23 - 00;07;06;11

Ron Zappolo

Well, yeah, the, the, the owners have to be comfortable hiring black men as head coaches until they get to there. Nothing will ever change. They have to be comfortable taking their black head coach to their country club. They have to be comfortable being in partnership with a black head coach. Until they are, nothing will change.

00;07;06;11 - 00;07;15;17

Woody Paige

And we're going to get, I'm sure I will. That. Oh, here. You're talking about Dei. I'm not talking about Dia. I I'm about humanity, and I'm talking.

00;07;15;19 - 00;07;45;03

Ron Zappolo

About Steve Tissue brought up. I mean, let's just put it out there. Jerry Richardson was forced to sell his friend, because of racially insensitive remarks, sexually offensive remarks. It's pretty clear. I read what I read all the Steve Tisch stuff. There's not much gray area there. He was involved intimately with, Jeffrey Epstein procuring him women.

00;07;45;05 - 00;07;52;11

Ron Zappolo

Now, he came out and said, well, it was adult women. Well, it may be it may not. What is the NFL do about that?

00;07;52;13 - 00;07;53;23

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;07;53;26 - 00;08;07;10

Ron Zappolo

Or is that okay. Because I read the Goodell yesterday's the vanilla answer. We're going to investigate. Well you don't need to investigate very deeply. It's black and white. It's in the you can read the same thing. All of us read and draw your own conclusions there.

00;08;07;13 - 00;08;35;26

Woody Paige

There's so many issues going on around the Super Bowl. I found it funny that, I think I mentioned this to Natasha, that there were reports and photos coming out of last night's, gatherings, interviews with the players, fans, experiences that those places were somewhat empty and in a lot of cases. And I'm wondering whether there's, feeling about San Francisco.

00;08;35;26 - 00;08;50;01

Woody Paige

I mean, thought about it, of what's going on and what's gone on in San Francisco, homelessness situations. And I wonder whether a lot of people are staying away from it. You would think Boston people would be coming that, Seattle. It's I'm sure they are.

00;08;50;04 - 00;08;59;02

Ron Zappolo

I'll give you one theory. That's way out there, though. But I think this is one of the least exciting Super Bowl matchups that we've had in a long time.

00;08;59;04 - 00;09;00;02

Tom Green

It is going in.

00;09;00;02 - 00;09;10;12

Woody Paige

Are you are you believing that major corporations in the country who get half the tickets, usually that they don't want to go, oh, that might be possibly.

00;09;10;12 - 00;09;27;05

Ron Zappolo

I just don't think that the country general is excited yet about this matchup. Now, maybe as the week goes on it'll change. But I just think if you look back on the all the Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, you've been spoiled by some really good matchups.

00;09;27;05 - 00;09;31;27

Tom Green

High octane matchups, not just the games but the matchup going the matchup was sexy. Yeah I.

00;09;31;27 - 00;09;32;14

Woody Paige

Just asked.

00;09;32;14 - 00;09;33;00

Ron Zappolo

You me in.

00;09;33;00 - 00;09;36;15

Woody Paige

A car about, Super Bowls. I believe.

00;09;36;15 - 00;09;36;25

Ron Zappolo

That one.

00;09;36;25 - 00;10;06;12

Woody Paige

Of the best Super Bowls I've ever not been to was going to Las Vegas. I'm thinking the people up there are. Las Vegas is suffering, but athletes go to Las Vegas. They instead of going to the especially now the Pro Bowl, I and I believe that Las Vegas has taken away a lot of the, glamor, if you will, of going to the Super Bowl.

00;10;06;12 - 00;10;10;14

Woody Paige

And people say, well, let's go to Las Vegas. They have some incredible parties there.

00;10;10;16 - 00;10;15;16

Tom Green

I have a couple things I need to ask you about. One is, I mean, I wanted to handicap the Pro Bowl, but.

00;10;15;19 - 00;10;16;08

Ron Zappolo

00;10;16;28 - 00;10;39;13

Tom Green

The Hall of Fame today, word comes out that that, Robert Kraft is not going in. We get Bill Belichick not going in. Are they are the voters who we have to get into, who the voters are and what their motivations are. Are the voters punishing? Because clearly these are two people who would walk into the Hall of Fame just on their their resume alone.

00;10;39;15 - 00;10;46;04

Tom Green

Are they punishing them for Spygate, for all the all the Patriots malfeasance that they were accused of? It.

00;10;46;04 - 00;10;48;20

Woody Paige

Was all they remember for 15 years as.

00;10;48;20 - 00;10;50;00

Tom Green

A voter.

00;10;50;03 - 00;11;16;10

Woody Paige

Yes. In that, committee meeting, it was usually see what one of the mistakes they made. We used to meet the weekend of the Super Bowl. So there was no getting out reports because nobody knew until that period Saturday night. Yeah, we would spend, about eight, ten, 12 hours at it. And, they sometimes had to push back the announcement because of that.

00;11;16;17 - 00;11;41;01

Woody Paige

But I can tell you, being in that room and I kept saying to the organization, the board that ran it, because you guys have known me forever, I'd say these votes should be transparent. I don't like what I'm seeing with the anonymous votes. We would ought to pat right. Want to pat weed. Right. And and when you got down to the finalists, which they're talking about, did you say yes or no?

00;11;41;03 - 00;11;54;09

Woody Paige

And I couldn't figure out if you got this far. Why would you say no? I mean, it was through a serious process, starting with about 200 players, and we would work on it for months leading up to the Super Bowl with the.

00;11;54;09 - 00;12;05;08

Tom Green

Patriots in this Super Bowl and with what just happened. Ron, this is this seems like this will be the watershed moment you'd hope for the Hall of Fame to come to Jesus moment where people are going. You kidding?

00;12;05;12 - 00;12;06;23

Ron Zappolo

You would think well.

00;12;06;27 - 00;12;31;18

Woody Paige

But that is also causes a problem. And I'll just give you 2 or 3 examples. And quickly I got to get up. And his son is a famous broadcaster and he was a committee member. And he said, I'll never vote for a kicker or a punter. He said that in the meeting and I went, well, that's a strange thing to say because I thought the Oakland Raiders had the greatest punter of all time, Ray Guy.

00;12;31;18 - 00;12;59;07

Woody Paige

Right? And he didn't get a sniff because they didn't want there were people that didn't want punter, punters or kickers. There were people who didn't want Lawrence Taylor in there because of issues that involve drugs and other off field issues in the, in the, contract, it says you can't consider. I used to tell people this, you can't consider off the field actions.

00;12;59;09 - 00;13;30;29

Woody Paige

It's between the white lines. Well, guys paid no attention to that. But according to the contract, O.J. Simpson, who's in the Hall of Fame. If he'd come along after the killings, you couldn't have considered him according to the rules of the the Hall of Fame. So I found it funny that there Guys is still in there that, unlike baseball, where you consider Barry Bonds or Pete Rose or whatever might be Shoeless Joe Jackson, you can't put him in that.

00;13;30;29 - 00;13;59;23

Woody Paige

You can keep them out because of their actions, l feel, but I couldn't understand why guys would just violate that. Why could they do it? Because it's anonymous, right? And it should have been transparent that if you didn't want to vote for Lawrence Taylor, or if you don't want to vote for Robert Kraft, if you don't want to vote for Bill Belichick in baseball, as in the Heisman Trophy, all the others that I vote on, it's transparent.

00;13;59;23 - 00;14;24;02

Woody Paige

I, you know, I, I can say it before or after whatever I want to. It's in canton, Ohio. And I say that it's kind of run like, they have a parade down Main Street and, you know, with floats from high schools and it it's an atmosphere because that's where football supposedly started. It's an atmosphere that's kind of, small town.

00;14;24;04 - 00;14;43;13

Woody Paige

And I think that board and those that run it, treat it that way and they make mistakes and they're a mistake, which I used to say and I think it get me kicked off. They said I went to New York and I said, does that change things about me knowing Broncos players? But I think they kick me out because I was too outspoken, truthfully.

00;14;43;15 - 00;15;05;09

Woody Paige

But it should be transparent that that's the first thing you do. You make sure it I used to say to them and they've done it since I left. You bring in former Hall of Famers to vote. You bring in club presidents to vote, you break. It shouldn't be a bunch of sportswriters. And there were no women on the, I would say that every year you got to put women on this committee.

00;15;05;11 - 00;15;22;16

Woody Paige

Now they are taking care of that. But they got to be transparent. You know, I'll leave it at that. But I there's no doubt in my mind that Kraft will get in and Belichick, but I thought that Mike Shanahan should have been in years ago. His is coaching tree maybe the best in the history of the National Football League.

00;15;22;16 - 00;15;48;00

Woody Paige

And he won two Super Bowls as a head coach and a third as an offensive coordinator with the 40 Niners. Will Brady. No. John Elway got in on the first. Marino got in. Peyton got in on the first. Whatever happened with deflating the balls will be dismissed and he'll get in. And actually that happened off the field didn't it?

00;15;48;00 - 00;15;50;26

Woody Paige

So it shouldn't count.

00;15;50;28 - 00;15;53;14

Tom Green

Ron.

00;15;53;16 - 00;15;58;27

Ron Zappolo

Sorry. Very simple. Baseball usually gets everything wrong almost all the time.

00;15;58;27 - 00;15;59;19

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;15;59;22 - 00;16;17;21

Ron Zappolo

When it comes to the Hall of Fame, they're way ahead of the NFL. First off, their Hall of Fame is more important. Yeah, they think it's more important. And the general public thinks it's more important. This is pretty simple. He's right about the transparency. But here's the problem 50 people voting. Are you.

00;16;17;23 - 00;16;18;20

Tom Green

Small sample.

00;16;18;27 - 00;16;29;26

Ron Zappolo

That's way too small. You want to keep some sportswriters like Woody keep them. Do what baseball does have 400 people, right? So the no.

00;16;29;26 - 00;16;31;23

Woody Paige

One person. How about fans.

00;16;31;23 - 00;16;32;28

Ron Zappolo

Or I don't care.

00;16;32;28 - 00;16;33;22

Woody Paige

Add them into.

00;16;33;28 - 00;16;51;18

Ron Zappolo

The merrier. But if you have 50 people, it's ridiculous because every vote is incredibly important. And you know the other thing. But but baseball, they just baseball understands about the Hall of Fame.

00;16;51;18 - 00;16;53;05

Tom Green

Baseball's always had the numbers though.

00;16;53;05 - 00;17;13;14

Ron Zappolo

Football was a heart. You know, we all know baseball writers. They look down on all of us. There seem heads were not. I felt that for years with the Rockies, but at least baseball opens it up to a lot of ex-players. Yeah. You know and the know that they're they're veterans Committee is a group of Hall of Fame players.

00;17;13;16 - 00;17;20;11

Ron Zappolo

That's what if I have the bats. If you're going to vote on this, the programs in the NFL have Hall of Fame players.

00;17;20;11 - 00;17;37;23

Tom Green

To the Pro Football Hall of Fame also gets in its own way with all these specific categories and numbers and things, because you look at, I mean, every year, you look at those finalists, you go, yeah, those are all Hall of Famers. Yeah, all of them would be Hall of Famers. But let's get down to five. And I'm like, why?

00;17;37;26 - 00;17;38;26

Tom Green

Why do we have to.

00;17;38;29 - 00;18;04;12

Woody Paige

That's what I used to say. Well I'll tell you what. We had a again be short seven possibilities when I was on the committee. And sometimes we put in four and I would get up and say in the meeting we got seven openings there, guys. There are 150 guys out there that could should be considered. And you're not voting for three of the seven.

00;18;04;12 - 00;18;14;06

Woody Paige

But you know why? They hated they hated the player. He was ugly to them. Or they thought he was an ass, or they thought he didn't win enough Super Bowl.

00;18;14;06 - 00;18;31;18

Tom Green

Right. But I always baseball is the one. I always stop because I always go until Mariano Rivera, nobody'd ever gotten in with a clean sheet. And I'm going really? So when Willie Mays was up there, a couple guys going there, I don't know, they to take a look at some of his, you know, his open. Well, when.

00;18;31;19 - 00;18;33;13

Woody Paige

You're talking about human beings.

00;18;33;15 - 00;18;42;07

Tom Green

Oh but dude with that you can't vote for baseball's Hall of Fame if Willie Mays isn't a rubber stamp. There's so many guys who should be rubber stamping care.

00;18;42;14 - 00;19;05;28

Woody Paige

But can you have someone on the committee? I felt like we almost had to go through a process, of doing an audition to get on the Hall of Fame committee, and I told you guys publicly and privately, I sat next to a guy, I could see his sheet. He. And he said to me, he didn't bite. He would not vote for a black player.

00;19;06;00 - 00;19;06;23

Woody Paige

Yes. What part of the.

00;19;06;26 - 00;19;09;07

Ron Zappolo

White willie was not a unanimous.

00;19;09;09 - 00;19;15;03

Tom Green

That that could be a problem in and of itself. Let's go to the Broncos now. Do though suddenly they have their offseason.

00;19;15;03 - 00;19;16;16

Woody Paige

Why do you think to go in the Super Bowl.

00;19;16;21 - 00;19;37;08

Tom Green

Who do I think is going to win? Yeah, I like Seattle. I like Seattle solidly. I think I really think a lot of Mike Vrabel and it's going to it's part of why I look at what the Broncos are and aren't doing with play calling, because I think Mike Vrabel coaches the team has to say so. And everything that happens from start to finish.

00;19;37;11 - 00;19;55;23

Tom Green

But he has an offensive coordinator and he has a defensive coordinator and they call the shots. It all goes through Vrabel, but I think variable's going to do a really good job and surprise people and keep the game close enough. It'll be a matter of how well Drake May plays and how well Sam Darnold plays. I think both quarterbacks are a bit of a mystery.

00;19;55;23 - 00;19;59;08

Ron Zappolo

Two quarterbacks that are both injured. If you believe what's being written.

00;19;59;11 - 00;20;04;28

Tom Green

I when did they invent the oblique because I remember nobody's ever had an oblique injury until about.

00;20;05;04 - 00;20;05;24

Woody Paige

Where the oblique.

00;20;05;28 - 00;20;09;28

Ron Zappolo

Is. I think it was some guy that swung really hard and missed and went.

00;20;09;28 - 00;20;15;02

Tom Green

Oh, my side hurts. Yeah, no, we got to it. Can't a call it an oblique Pat.

00;20;15;05 - 00;20;30;01

Woody Paige

Patrick certainly in the second is pick predicted the Seattle Seahawks to win by the basically the same score. They beat the Broncos in Super Bowl 4030. He said 35 to 6 or something like that.

00;20;30;03 - 00;20;34;19

Ron Zappolo

It won't be that bad but I like I agree with everything Tom said. I think Seattle will win.

00;20;34;22 - 00;20;35;26

Tom Green

Well and you know.

00;20;35;29 - 00;20;36;09

Woody Paige

But I.

00;20;36;13 - 00;20;43;05

Tom Green

Coach who's who could walk in here and none of us would recognize him. Mike McDonald, you know.

00;20;43;07 - 00;20;45;14

Woody Paige

They confused him with the Miami.

00;20;45;16 - 00;20;52;03

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. Where Mike McDonald grew up. Well Scituate, Massachusetts rooting for the Patriots in the Red Sox.

00;20;52;03 - 00;20;54;10

Tom Green

Well, of course there's also Michael McDonald. You know who's saying.

00;20;54;11 - 00;20;58;18

Ron Zappolo

Well, who is a 75 year old guy with white hair I want to say.

00;20;58;25 - 00;21;00;09

Woody Paige

Who sings wonderful.

00;21;00;11 - 00;21;00;20

Tom Green

Sings.

00;21;00;20 - 00;21;02;29

Ron Zappolo

Very well done. Let's.

00;21;03;00 - 00;21;07;07

Woody Paige

Yeah, yeah. Sings on a song one one sentence every two minutes.

00;21;07;07 - 00;21;08;06

Ron Zappolo

He just runs into the.

00;21;08;13 - 00;21;09;03

Woody Paige

Cross.

00;21;09;06 - 00;21;10;02

Tom Green

Before it.

00;21;10;09 - 00;21;11;29

Ron Zappolo

Does that. He's had a great career.

00;21;11;29 - 00;21;12;06

Tom Green

So.

00;21;12;10 - 00;21;14;10

Woody Paige

We such a long way to go.

00;21;14;12 - 00;21;17;22

Tom Green

Do you, you're with us on Seattle. You like to? Yes.

00;21;17;22 - 00;21;26;25

Woody Paige

Yes. I got emails this week saying we agree too much, and I thought we agree because we're right. Right? Right. Says something. That's right. I'm not going to sit.

00;21;26;25 - 00;21;32;13

Ron Zappolo

Here and say, I love to disagree with you, but if you're right, you're right. What? I'm not going to fake it.

00;21;32;13 - 00;21;53;22

Woody Paige

I think it's going to be I'm with you. I believe it's going to be really close, because I think that the quarterback for the Patriots is not fully healed. You were talking about they're both kind of injured. I think that the Patriots and Seahawks are better team. I think they win. But I don't think it's going to be a break.

00;21;53;22 - 00;22;04;16

Tom Green

Man has not had a great postseason. But he's also played three games where it's been 14 degrees out. So it's going to be nicer than that in San Francisco. And I think that will lend it lend itself to him.

00;22;04;16 - 00;22;09;05

Ron Zappolo

And you made a good performance this week. Seattle's different on the road than they are.

00;22;09;06 - 00;22;15;12

Tom Green

They're Seattle at home. And then there's Seattle not at home. And Seattle at home is a monster. Seattle on the road is good team.

00;22;15;13 - 00;22;17;08

Ron Zappolo

Let's get to Sean Payton. It's more fun.

00;22;17;10 - 00;22;39;00

Tom Green

So here's what I want to ask you about because Sean Payton it does work out that they lose one one of their defensive coaches, Jim Leonard, is off to Buffalo. Vance Joseph is staying the new offensive coordinator replacing Joe Lombardi. And we have to thank Joe for all he did. Is going to be Davis Webb who moves up from quarterback coach.

00;22;39;00 - 00;22;57;27

Tom Green

And a lot of people say, why would he do it without the guarantee of being able to call plays and grow? And I just one thing does come to mind for me that the average salary of a quarterbacks and assistant coach is somewhere around $200,000 in the minimum, and an offensive coordinator makes a million. So that's a pretty good price hike.

00;22;57;27 - 00;23;10;21

Tom Green

So whether or not you're calling plays and we don't know that he actually had other opportunities. But Davis Webb is the offensive coordinator. How much coordinating will he get to do?

00;23;10;23 - 00;23;14;02

Woody Paige

Well a guy with two last names never trust.

00;23;14;02 - 00;23;17;09

Ron Zappolo

There you go. Never trust to go to first names are two less.

00;23;17;09 - 00;23;18;18

Woody Paige

What I thought about both.

00;23;18;18 - 00;23;19;07

Tom Green

For a punter.

00;23;19;14 - 00;23;37;20

Woody Paige

If indeed he's going to be the play caller, where is he going to be? Nobody's address that issue. He was always sitting next to Bo Nix. On working with him during the course of the game. Is he going to move up to the press box, or do they want him to still be there?

00;23;37;25 - 00;23;39;19

Tom Green

How about like sit in the stands?

00;23;39;19 - 00;23;57;27

Woody Paige

They what they named a quarterback coach and people go, I didn't know he was with the Broncos. They hired him away from a high school in New Orleans, where he was the quarterback coach for the quarterback that is at the University of Texas. That's his background.

00;23;57;29 - 00;24;05;17

Tom Green

Now. Is that because Logan Kilgore, they just moved him up. He was a quality control coach. Coach. Yeah, he's the one who is now the quarterback.

00;24;05;19 - 00;24;07;15

Woody Paige

And he coached Manning.

00;24;07;17 - 00;24;08;09

Tom Green

Arch Manning.

00;24;08;15 - 00;24;09;17

Woody Paige

At high school at.

00;24;09;17 - 00;24;12;22

Tom Green

That that school the Eli and Peyton High School is it on.

00;24;12;28 - 00;24;30;29

Woody Paige

And so he has gone you know pretty quick time three years. He's gone from being a high school coach to now being the quarterback coach. Is he the one that's going to be sitting next to Bo Nix. Is Davis Webb going to be still on the on the field if he's calling plays is is going to be in the press box.

00;24;30;29 - 00;24;53;18

Woody Paige

Most of the offensive coordinators we see them are upstairs. He's he moving when he's been what we think is so effective working with Nix during the course of games. So there's a lot of moving parts still to this. And I think when it's all over with Sean Payton calls plays with suggestions from his offensive coordinator.

00;24;53;22 - 00;25;10;23

Ron Zappolo

I agree with that. And let me just say Davis Webb played for the New York Giants in his very short career. I am convinced that the New York Giants would have hired Davis Webb to be their offensive coordinator, and for sure, he would have called.

00;25;10;23 - 00;25;12;12

Tom Green

Yeah, John Harbaugh doesn't call plays.

00;25;12;12 - 00;25;34;15

Ron Zappolo

He doesn't call plays. And that's a great job. They just hired Matt Nagy, who's got a lot of experience there as a play caller. I think that if Davis Webb took this job, I would think that he would have taken it with some kind of assurance that he would be more involved. But in he was previous.

00;25;34;15 - 00;25;45;09

Tom Green

But it's not technical. It's emotional. I think with Sean Payton. Can you see Sean Payton not calling plays? Every picture you see of me. He's got the menu up on his face and he's calling.

00;25;45;09 - 00;25;49;08

Ron Zappolo

Out of play. What is Davis Webb doing? Is he just taking a, pay raise?

00;25;49;09 - 00;25;52;15

Tom Green

What is Sean Payton doing? If Davis Webb is calling plays.

00;25;52;15 - 00;25;55;23

Ron Zappolo

Well then they you know what they didn't want to lose Davis Webb.

00;25;55;23 - 00;25;56;12

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;25;56;14 - 00;26;04;17

Ron Zappolo

So they found a way to give him an upgrade. But really I ask you if he's not calling plays is that an upgrade.

00;26;04;19 - 00;26;08;16

Tom Green

Well financially nothing else. He. Yeah but it's and.

00;26;08;19 - 00;26;09;22

Ron Zappolo

He wants to be a head coach.

00;26;09;22 - 00;26;13;04

Tom Green

And so he gets the OC title is that's his launching pad.

00;26;13;05 - 00;26;27;15

Ron Zappolo

That's his launching pad. But it's easier Eric Bieniemy will tell you this. It's easier to be the offensive coordinator and the play caller to get to the next level. If you're just the offensive coordinator in name.

00;26;27;15 - 00;26;29;00

Tom Green

Only, Andy Reid is calling all the.

00;26;29;00 - 00;26;33;29

Ron Zappolo

Play. Andy Reid's calling all the plays. Yeah, he'll tell you it doesn't work that way.

00;26;34;02 - 00;26;44;20

Woody Paige

I, I would say this. So I think people have kind of forgotten that Webb did call the plays in a preseason game and did.

00;26;44;20 - 00;26;45;07

Ron Zappolo

It did well.

00;26;45;10 - 00;26;47;01

Woody Paige

They scored 30 points in the game.

00;26;47;01 - 00;26;51;22

Tom Green

Now you are facing the basic defense of, you know, a bunch of guys.

00;26;51;22 - 00;26;52;15

Ron Zappolo

Who are now.

00;26;52;16 - 00;27;18;18

Woody Paige

I just wanted to I wanted to add that that he has done it for one game. It was a meaningless game before the season started. But you said request or added it. When you've negotiated contracts with a number of different medias, you demanded things you did, you asked for. You said, if I want this, I.

00;27;18;18 - 00;27;20;03

Tom Green

Never got it, but I did demand.

00;27;20;03 - 00;27;27;08

Woody Paige

Them. You're right. Me, me once putting in a demand for green demand EMS, because that's what rock groups did.

00;27;27;10 - 00;27;50;20

Tom Green

So here's the here's the question I think. Do you have to look at the Bronco organization from the very top down? And Sean Payton may have said, I want Davis Webb on our staff. I want continuity in our offense. I like what Davis does, all that stuff. But I wonder if it's more of a Greg Penner thing watching the operation from 30,000ft, and he asks questions as he says he doesn't make football decisions, but he asked questions.

00;27;50;20 - 00;28;12;02

Tom Green

He educates himself if he's looking at that workflow. Like most Bronco fans watching the play clock tick relentlessly on Sean Payton Sean Payton even alluding to it this year that as you get older, you know, things slow down a little bit for you. I wonder if Greg Penner had a nudge in this decision, and a nudge in which direction.

00;28;12;02 - 00;28;28;22

Tom Green

This will go as far as play calling, because, you know, does the play calling change dramatically? I don't know. Will it get faster? Will it become more efficient than it's been? Because it does seem like the Broncos have played up against the play clock now throughout Sean Payton's tenure.

00;28;28;22 - 00;28;39;14

Woody Paige

Do you find it funny at all, though? Another aspect of this is, Lombardi and Carmichael, who are former offensive, coordinators around the league and played.

00;28;39;14 - 00;28;39;27

Tom Green

For him.

00;28;39;27 - 00;28;53;17

Woody Paige

In the past two Carmichael's with the Buffalo Bills. He was the forgotten man with the Broncos publicly, nobody ever talked about him. Lombardi was the offensive coordinator. And Lombardi comes out and said, well, Sean is in one of his moods.

00;28;53;20 - 00;28;55;17

Tom Green

Yeah, that's why he fired me.

00;28;55;19 - 00;28;56;11

Ron Zappolo

Well, I got back and.

00;28;56;11 - 00;29;20;18

Woody Paige

He said, I know about working with him. So there that's why I said there's moving parts here that we will never know. But I think we'll find out what's the season starts of where Davis Webb is located. If he's behind Sean Payton, he's not calling plays. If he's in the press box, he's probably involved in the place.

00;29;20;21 - 00;29;34;20

Woody Paige

As you talked about with, bieniemy. He was always next right in the picture. And so I think this will unfurl itself more vividly as we get closer to the season.

00;29;34;24 - 00;29;36;07

Tom Green

What do you think Ownership's involved?

00;29;36;07 - 00;29;52;09

Ron Zappolo

No. At all. No, I don't think Greg Penner, who is a novice at football, is telling Sean Payton, I don't like the way the play calls came in late. I think Sean Payton is telling Greg Penner now. I agree with you. Greg Penner is.

00;29;52;15 - 00;29;52;26

Tom Green

Asking.

00;29;52;26 - 00;30;23;21

Ron Zappolo

Questions, asking questions, and he's learning. Just like in 1983, Pat Boland came in here with more football credentials than Greg Penner, but he still asked questions and learned. But I think, Sean Payton's got bigger problems than, Davis Webb. You got a quarterback was pissed off right now. And I find it funny because for a lot of us, it harkens back to another time in Denver when a quarterback was pissed off at.

00;30;23;21 - 00;30;24;18

Tom Green

A head shaving.

00;30;24;21 - 00;30;26;24

Ron Zappolo

And it was for different reasons.

00;30;26;24 - 00;30;27;19

Tom Green

This is Elwin Reid.

00;30;27;19 - 00;30;58;01

Ron Zappolo

It was about the style of play. Now, I don't know if maybe Bo Nix, maybe the style of play has little bit to do with it. But I do know this when a when a coach who's got a huge ego says too much and then tries to make jokes that the person who he's joking about doesn't find funny, and that person can't run to the microphones fast enough to say that the coach has no idea what he's talking about.

00;30;58;03 - 00;31;00;25

Ron Zappolo

You've got the germ of a problem.

00;31;00;25 - 00;31;01;15

Tom Green

More than a germ.

00;31;01;15 - 00;31;23;06

Ron Zappolo

Maybe it may be more. And you know my kid who bleeds orange and watches everything and calls me all the time, called me the other day and said, I got a prediction and I don't like it. And I go, what's that? He goes, there's always a balance of power. And an organization started out Sean Payton here and Bo Nix here when he drafted him.

00;31;23;08 - 00;31;45;24

Ron Zappolo

Now we're a couple years into Bo Nix instead of being like this it's like this. And he goes in another year or two, Bo Nix will be ahead of Sean Payton. And when the Broncos have a natural regression, which they will, don't be surprised if it comes down to Bo Nix and Sean Payton. Sean Payton goes.

00;31;45;24 - 00;31;47;23

Tom Green

That has a lot to do with Davis Webb I think.

00;31;47;23 - 00;31;54;24

Woody Paige

Two you got it. Davis Webb has been the liaison between.

00;31;54;24 - 00;31;56;20

Ron Zappolo

The Mike Shanahan.

00;31;56;23 - 00;32;19;04

Woody Paige

Exactly. Mike Shanahan was between Reaves and Elway. He took the side. Elway. That's why you wonder whether Webb says I'm the guy that works with Bo Nix. Not this guy that was a high school coach three years ago. Right. So I, I believe that's why I'm saying there's there's a lot of folders here that we're going to have to check into.

00;32;19;04 - 00;32;32;15

Woody Paige

And, you know, sources and sources are not that good at the Broncos. I'm saying that you can't get into, Pena's head like you could. Right.

00;32;32;17 - 00;32;33;07

Tom Green

With Pat.

00;32;33;13 - 00;32;36;06

Ron Zappolo

Sean was one one playoff game in three years.

00;32;36;09 - 00;32;42;24

Tom Green

Yeah. No, he's, But but it is his franchise. I mean, he still has the helm for now.

00;32;42;27 - 00;32;43;12

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, well.

00;32;43;13 - 00;32;48;06

Woody Paige

It'd be strange if the general manager leaves for the Minnesota Minnesota.

00;32;48;10 - 00;33;08;29

Tom Green

Vikings. Well, because the general managers next next task. I think Bo Nix would like to have his ankle healthy. But his next task is the Broncos need playmakers. Yeah they need they need game breaking playmakers. They need to somehow every other team seems to be able to find their tight end on occasion. Gosh.

00;33;09;02 - 00;33;11;00

Ron Zappolo

The Broncos even the bad tight end.

00;33;11;00 - 00;33;13;16

Tom Green

I know there's tight ends running around all over the.

00;33;13;16 - 00;33;14;29

Woody Paige

League except for tight ends.

00;33;15;06 - 00;33;17;28

Tom Green

They don't play at altitude. I guess for must be.

00;33;18;01 - 00;33;19;20

Ron Zappolo

Levels they do well.

00;33;19;23 - 00;33;24;18

Woody Paige

They haven't been factor with the Broncos through the last four coaches.

00;33;24;20 - 00;33;33;29

Tom Green

Well they kept drafting guys too. They kept wasting you know if I do a big take but they bring an Iowa tight end and they brought in the six foot seven inches from Utah.

00;33;34;02 - 00;33;38;29

Ron Zappolo

They brought the wrong Iowa tight end. There's a million great Iowa tight ends. They picked the wrong.

00;33;38;29 - 00;33;57;09

Woody Paige

You know, if I say this, there was a list of players that are now free agents. Totally. And I went through the in about six of them I never heard of. They were on the practice squad. The other four, I would, think they should get on the next bus out of town anyway. So it's going to be, exactly what you said.

00;33;57;11 - 00;34;10;29

Woody Paige

They have got to go out and get a tight end. Gosh, we say this every year and they've got to get another wide receiver who, if he's not one, he's at least one eight.

00;34;11;03 - 00;34;11;11

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;34;11;17 - 00;34;24;18

Woody Paige

And they don't have those two. And I was going to write about that going into the Patriots game. Think about what the tight ends did and the wide receivers did. It was a slow game, but it didn't snow the entire game.

00;34;24;19 - 00;34;38;06

Tom Green

Right. But even then you also have a running back as a question. Whereas Jake Dobbins, if they're going to keep Jake Dobbins, which sounds great. He was terrific when he was healthy, but he's never stayed healthy. So you need a real plan B. I mean, why.

00;34;38;06 - 00;34;43;02

Woody Paige

Did he have a press conference and say I'm not I always injured.

00;34;43;04 - 00;35;01;19

Ron Zappolo

No, I didn't see you to Woody's point. I did see a quote from Evan Ingram when they asked him about it this year. He goes, hey, dependent position. I didn't get the ball enough, you know, and I think, you know, no one ever no one other than Josh Allen ever steps up and says, it's on me.

00;35;01;19 - 00;35;02;02

Tom Green

Yeah I had.

00;35;02;02 - 00;35;03;18

Ron Zappolo

A it's always somebody else.

00;35;03;18 - 00;35;04;25

Tom Green

I didn't bring much to the table.

00;35;04;26 - 00;35;05;23

Ron Zappolo

Yeah well.

00;35;05;23 - 00;35;09;00

Woody Paige

They were dropping the football, let me tell you, based on my.

00;35;09;00 - 00;35;10;05

Ron Zappolo

History, I'm.

00;35;10;09 - 00;35;10;22

Tom Green

Together.

00;35;10;22 - 00;35;15;07

Woody Paige

I was a tight end in eighth grade. That was only time. I time there.

00;35;15;07 - 00;35;17;05

Ron Zappolo

Were a lot of tight ends who are.

00;35;17;08 - 00;35;18;11

Woody Paige

Thumbs together.

00;35;18;11 - 00;35;18;25

Ron Zappolo

00;35;18;25 - 00;35;27;19

Woody Paige

And catch the ball out of here. You don't catch it in here. Yeah, with your hands spread, because it's going to get bounced off. So I.

00;35;27;20 - 00;35;30;03

Tom Green

Tight end tips only here on only the.

00;35;30;05 - 00;35;30;26

Ron Zappolo

Only here.

00;35;31;00 - 00;35;46;11

Tom Green

Well, it'll be interesting to see how the Broncos do try to upgrade their roster and how they maintain. And that's you know, this is the salary cap year. As I was talking about Mack on my show, about how they had Bo Nix cheap for two years, but it wasn't really they were still paying so much money to Russell Wilson.

00;35;46;11 - 00;35;49;13

Tom Green

Great point. There was like having a veteran high paid quarterback.

00;35;49;13 - 00;35;50;06

Ron Zappolo

Now they've got money.

00;35;50;06 - 00;35;56;27

Tom Green

This is this window right here this year. Money to spend, money to spend wisely and implicitly.

00;35;56;27 - 00;36;18;04

Woody Paige

All the numbers are going to go up. Seriously? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. The cap number because the league is so successful. So, turning away, from that, if we can. I watched a basketball game the other night. I went, I don't care how many people are injured, that that's a better team than this team.

00;36;18;04 - 00;36;38;13

Tom Green

We're going to talk about the nuggets. But first I'm going to remind everybody about our friends at American Financing. These times can be especially tough right now. The math not adding up for many people lately. The grocery store skyrocketing insurance premiums. So even with a steady job, more families are being forced to rely on high interest credit cards to cover expenses.

00;36;38;15 - 00;36;57;07

Tom Green

So if you're a homeowner that is caught in that cycle carrying balances with interest rates in the 20s or even 30s, it's time to get some relief. Right now, mortgage rates have dropped to a three year low. My friends at American Financing are helping homeowners pay off that high interest rate, interest debt, I should say, at rates in the low fives.

00;36;57;10 - 00;37;19;19

Tom Green

Now, they're salary based mortgage consultants don't just push loans. They build exit strategies from debt. On average, they're saving customers $800 a month. And if you start today, you might even be able to delay two mortgage payments. And there are no upfront fees or obligations. If you want to find out how much you can save. Colorado is home for home loans is American financing.

00;37;30;23 - 00;37;33;16

Ron Zappolo

Well done Tom. Thank you. Let's pick up on what what he talked.

00;37;33;16 - 00;37;34;07

Tom Green

Let's talk about the.

00;37;34;07 - 00;37;40;13

Woody Paige

No. Just a moment. And nobody has ever asked you to do, menial tax task.

00;37;40;16 - 00;37;41;03

Ron Zappolo

Oh yeah.

00;37;41;05 - 00;37;52;09

Woody Paige

I've gotten all these people saying why don't you. Everything on the coffee table, would you reach behind you? Which beer can you do? This? Sure. See that little pot? Would you put that on the healthy table?

00;37;52;12 - 00;37;52;21

Ron Zappolo

My goodness.

00;37;52;24 - 00;38;01;14

Woody Paige

And if you want to, if people reach out to us. Natasha, this you should be in charge of this.

00;38;01;16 - 00;38;05;03

Natasha

We can take suggestions where he want to see you on the table.

00;38;05;05 - 00;38;23;00

Woody Paige

And I would like to go before we, I was one too. Hastily moved on to the nuggets. What did you think about all of these decisions being made by the Broncos? Since you are representing the millions of Broncos fans?

00;38;23;00 - 00;38;26;11

Tom Green

Broncos country, you're the fan. Yeah. You could I mean, oh.

00;38;26;11 - 00;38;27;03

Ron Zappolo

A lot of pressure on.

00;38;27;03 - 00;38;44;18

Woody Paige

How about the Sean Payton Bo Nix controversy? What about the offensive coordinator? What about, the defensive coordinator not getting a job as a head coach? Yeah. What is on your, gripe list? Well, let's grind your gears.

00;38;44;18 - 00;39;03;08

Natasha

You know, I agree with everything that you guys said, and I know, I know to agree too much, but we did spend a lot of time on the Broncos. And I will say that my number one job ahead of being the Broncos fan correspondent is to keep us on track. And we're on a time crunch because you're going to the Super Bowl.

00;39;03;09 - 00;39;05;26

Natasha

So we so I would say you can go on to nuggets.

00;39;06;03 - 00;39;12;06

Tom Green

So but the plane doesn't leave the wood. He gets on. It's like a private jet. It's like a guerilla sports page on.

00;39;12;06 - 00;39;15;12

Ron Zappolo

The Tar Heel. Just pay a pay the fine and just be late.

00;39;15;12 - 00;39;16;13

Tom Green

Just fuel.

00;39;16;15 - 00;39;31;00

Woody Paige

What said to me, I said, are you going to the Tennessee game? And he said, yeah, aren't you bringing your plane? We'll go in your plane. And I said, I don't have a plane. I said, You're Peyton. Peyton fucking Manning. We can say it on this show, a.

00;39;31;00 - 00;39;31;14

Tom Green

Plane.

00;39;31;19 - 00;39;34;27

Woody Paige

For years. He said, I'm not taking my plane.

00;39;35;04 - 00;39;59;26

Tom Green

Yeah. So. So, last week was very interesting. Week for the, local, winter sports teams in that the nuggets got Jokic back and played a really cool game against the Clippers. And then the Avs went into Detroit and steamrolled the Red wings. Everything was going great. And then Sunday came around and Oklahoma City came to town and reminded the nuggets of who they were.

00;39;59;29 - 00;40;13;20

Tom Green

And then the Avs, their second to last game before the Olympic break, got shut out by the Red Wings at Ball Arena. Two nothing. It was really good till it went really bad. So let's talk about it. Let's start with the nuggets.

00;40;13;22 - 00;40;30;28

Woody Paige

I said I watched the game the other night. And once again, I mean they've got to get everybody healthy. I think they've only had 14 games where they've had four of their five starts. Right. It's almost been none. But they've got to figure out the sugar problem.

00;40;31;03 - 00;40;33;01

Tom Green

Nobody can though. They're not alone.

00;40;33;08 - 00;40;38;20

Woody Paige

And and I'm sitting there going, gosh, I always say that Joker is the most valuable player, the best player in the world, that if.

00;40;38;20 - 00;40;40;11

Ron Zappolo

You watch that game, yeah.

00;40;40;13 - 00;40;47;21

Woody Paige

And plus they had 14, guys that were making three pointers. And we've never seen that case on Wallace.

00;40;47;21 - 00;40;49;12

Ron Zappolo

They turned him into Kobe Bryant.

00;40;49;14 - 00;40;51;17

Tom Green

He's on his way to Springfield.

00;40;51;17 - 00;41;10;21

Ron Zappolo

You know what you'll catch Friday night against the Clippers. I watched both games in their entirety. He was phenomenal having sat out all that time. Just incredible. We get to Sunday night and this in no way is meant to be a criticism of Jokic. You can't take one shot in the first quarter and you can't take nine shots for the game.

00;41;10;22 - 00;41;38;24

Ron Zappolo

He's got a stiff Isaiah Hartenstein checking him. And one of his great strengths is he's so unselfish. There are certain times you got to be a little more selfish. One shot in the first quarter when Oklahoma City is allowed to get control of the game and get the tone of the game, and there you can't do that. The other thing, if you're a person watching that on, which was on national television and you've heard all about Jokic, is the MVP.

00;41;38;24 - 00;42;03;26

Ron Zappolo

And you'd had you'd watch that game and go SGA is by far the MVP. He was so far and away the best player on that floor. It wasn't even close. So they're the champions the nuggets of the challengers. Nuggets have to throw the knockout punch. And from what I saw Sunday you better get Gordon back because they're not capable of knocking out OKC based on where they sit right now.

00;42;03;26 - 00;42;17;09

Tom Green

So that's the deal. Now if you if you draw the the road map for the nuggets into the playoffs, they're going to have to face Oklahoma City likely. Or do they need somebody San Antonio seems to be able to to handle Oklahoma City. They need somebody to take care of business.

00;42;17;09 - 00;42;29;12

Ron Zappolo

Well the problem might be based on how things are going before the nuggets can get to Oklahoma City. They might have to play San Antonio. Right. And that may be a very difficult series for the nuggets.

00;42;29;14 - 00;42;37;23

Woody Paige

If I'm the Nuggets, I try to. Squeeze it where I don't have to play.

00;42;37;26 - 00;42;38;05

Tom Green

Well that's.

00;42;38;05 - 00;42;40;05

Woody Paige

Already.

00;42;40;07 - 00;42;41;00

Ron Zappolo

Laid it.

00;42;41;03 - 00;42;51;04

Woody Paige

Absolutely. That's that's what I do because you might be able to stay with with OKC, but you may not be able to stay with San Antonio.

00;42;51;04 - 00;42;51;19

Ron Zappolo

Exactly.

00;42;51;22 - 00;43;04;02

Tom Green

Getting Joker back. And I think this will be a bit of a process for him getting back in, because, you know, a lot of times you'll see a guy come back, play a good game and then there's a lag after an injury. And so maybe that had something to do with Sunday, who knows.

00;43;04;03 - 00;43;07;27

Woody Paige

And you talked about you talked about,

00;43;07;29 - 00;43;20;28

Ron Zappolo

The I thought of you watching the game though, because you made a great point the other day, which I hadn't considered. And you said, enjoy, Peyton Watson, because you're not going to pay him. Peyton Watson was their best player, and by far.

00;43;20;28 - 00;43;23;11

Woody Paige

He's been the best player for the last month or nine. Yeah.

00;43;23;11 - 00;43;26;12

Ron Zappolo

And they're not going to pay him. He's he's he's the.

00;43;26;12 - 00;43;27;10

Tom Green

One to.

00;43;27;12 - 00;43;30;06

Ron Zappolo

The want to but he's taken himself into

00;43;30;10 - 00;43;33;00

Woody Paige

Well you better do something before the trade deadline. That's what I'm saying.

00;43;33;06 - 00;43;34;14

Tom Green

You got a couple days left.

00;43;34;16 - 00;43;35;27

Ron Zappolo

You got only got to play.

00;43;35;27 - 00;43;42;13

Woody Paige

You got to bring him back. If you remember, the Joker put him in a commercial with you when he was.

00;43;42;16 - 00;43;43;08

Ron Zappolo

They were good.

00;43;43;10 - 00;44;05;12

Woody Paige

Yeah. He's worked with, with Grant. He idolized Duran Duran, took him under his wing and worked with him for years. So he is a present day, clone, if you will, of Kevin Duran. He's now shooting three pointers in, like, 42, 43%. He is. He's taking it to the basket. He's. And he said, did you I love this quote.

00;44;05;12 - 00;44;18;29

Woody Paige

He said I want to be one of the two. The two best two way players, one of the top 2 or 3 two way players. He is playing. He's blocking shots. He's he is taking on the best player on the other team.

00;44;18;29 - 00;44;28;28

Tom Green

It would be there would be tumult for the nuggets if they were able to make a deal at the trade deadline. That would allow them to keep Peyton Watson, though. You're talking about a big a big you're.

00;44;28;29 - 00;44;30;16

Ron Zappolo

Talking about a big move like.

00;44;30;16 - 00;44;35;10

Tom Green

I am Johnson type of I mean, he'd be the one guy who has the salary that you could maybe,

00;44;35;15 - 00;44;47;10

Ron Zappolo

But they can't trade him. People aren't going to they don't want people that are injured. And who knows when he's coming back would. He's probably right. They're probably going to make a, trade, but it's going to be a more.

00;44;47;11 - 00;44;48;02

Tom Green

A Zeke or.

00;44;48;08 - 00;45;02;23

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, something similar unless you want to, you know, there's three guys out there that are available that are massive. They're all hurt, but they're massive. Yanis, John Morant and Anthony Davis. Now they're all going to come back at some point in the next few weeks.

00;45;03;00 - 00;45;04;29

Woody Paige

Well, I don't think there's no I don't want any.

00;45;05;03 - 00;45;08;29

Ron Zappolo

I don't want any of those either. But those are the names that might I.

00;45;08;29 - 00;45;27;26

Woody Paige

Have I'm sorry. It I always was on ESPN. I've always been with you guys. I'm solutions oriented. You take the money, you just got from Portland for your Colorado Rapids and you move it. If you're the Rockies from the rapids over to the nuggets,

00;45;28;01 - 00;45;31;08

Ron Zappolo

That's a little, that's a little incestuous there.

00;45;31;08 - 00;45;33;07

Tom Green

But it's always, you know.

00;45;33;09 - 00;45;35;12

Woody Paige

It's tricky when you get another.

00;45;35;15 - 00;45;35;26

Ron Zappolo

You're getting.

00;45;35;27 - 00;45;55;01

Woody Paige

$3 million for their only homegrown grown player talking about the Colorado Rapids. And now the nuggets are kind of playing with, the second level and the second tier and things like that. You got to go over that. You have got to go over that stand. You got to keep pace.

00;45;55;02 - 00;45;59;22

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. When you tell owners about going over aprons, they get a little, you know.

00;45;59;23 - 00;46;08;09

Tom Green

That's that seems to be a freaky one. The other thing Sunday that happened was Jamal Murray finally made it an all star team and did not shoot the ball well it out Sunday.

00;46;08;09 - 00;46;09;10

Ron Zappolo

For for 16.

00;46;09;10 - 00;46;12;22

Tom Green

Yeah he but he's been obviously he deserves it.

00;46;12;22 - 00;46;13;15

Ron Zappolo

He's he's been.

00;46;13;15 - 00;46;21;16

Tom Green

Tremendous of their first very happy free. And he's also been the one guy who shows up every night. Every night. Other guys you know were in suits one on the basketball.

00;46;21;16 - 00;46;24;28

Woody Paige

So on the other extreme, Hardaway sometimes shows up at the gym.

00;46;24;29 - 00;46;26;09

Ron Zappolo

Well, he doesn't show up.

00;46;26;11 - 00;46;34;10

Tom Green

He's been terrific. He has you know what I would say those two guys if they have a tough day shooting I can struggle. You know they've been tremendous.

00;46;34;10 - 00;46;44;01

Ron Zappolo

They're playing in Detroit tonight against the best team in the East. Let's see how they, bounce back from a beating like that on national TV.

00;46;44;02 - 00;46;51;10

Woody Paige

How are we going to we meaning Denver. Have we done in the last 24 hours against teams from Detroit?

00;46;51;15 - 00;46;57;03

Ron Zappolo

Not that well. But if you ask me on Saturday, I would have said we're killing. We're killing them.

00;46;57;04 - 00;47;00;27

Woody Paige

I watched that last night and I said, you can't score one goal.

00;47;00;27 - 00;47;14;17

Ron Zappolo

You know, it's bad about that. We all get up for the wings. I watched both games. I don't watch every avalanche game, but I'm still in the mode of the rivalry. There's a whole new generation of people, and I'm not rivalry.

00;47;14;17 - 00;47;19;23

Tom Green

I'm an old guy. So any time it's original six, it's it just looks better. Well, I love that.

00;47;19;23 - 00;47;30;26

Ron Zappolo

Stuff, but it's the Red wings. You know, we covered a million of those games, and it was fun to see the avalanche kick their ass on Saturday. And then they kind of. But they gave us a no show the other night.

00;47;30;26 - 00;47;33;08

Tom Green

You know, they're playing average to below average.

00;47;33;08 - 00;47;35;22

Ron Zappolo

Yes they are over the last 2 or 3 weeks.

00;47;35;25 - 00;47;42;26

Tom Green

You know they missed Landeskog. I'm hearing land. He's going to play for Sweden in the Olympic Games. So he's getting healthy. I don't know if he's going to play.

00;47;42;27 - 00;47;46;18

Ron Zappolo

You know what that would bother me though if I was the avalanche.

00;47;46;19 - 00;47;49;07

Tom Green

Well let's see, because they, they have the one game left with San Jose.

00;47;49;07 - 00;47;52;26

Woody Paige

If I'm him and I'm the captain of this team, and I helped you.

00;47;52;28 - 00;47;53;15

Tom Green

Get a.

00;47;53;18 - 00;47;55;29

Woody Paige

Win in Stanley Cup USA, I wouldn't give a.

00;47;55;29 - 00;47;56;24

Tom Green

Shit up.

00;47;56;27 - 00;47;57;24

Ron Zappolo

And he brought.

00;47;57;26 - 00;48;02;00

Woody Paige

Probably to play for Sweden. I want Sweden to win. Yeah.

00;48;02;07 - 00;48;08;13

Ron Zappolo

Well then if I'm the Avs management I say, hey, how much is Sweden paying you? Yeah, I know what we're paying you.

00;48;08;16 - 00;48;34;10

Tom Green

Well I but he's a different cat altogether too. He is and has always been since he was a teenager. The captain and in just you can tell he wears that C well better than almost anyone in any sport. And, for him it matters a lot. And if you were going to say if you're Jared Bednar, Joe Sakic, and you want to say, hey, don't play hard, it's never too hard.

00;48;34;10 - 00;48;37;25

Ron Zappolo

That they never say never. It's hard to say not play. It's the Olympics.

00;48;37;26 - 00;48;42;18

Woody Paige

We remember the avalanche saying to Ford, Burke, yeah, it's up. He was in the league.

00;48;42;19 - 00;49;03;11

Tom Green

Yeah. No, but it's just there are guys who are going to play. So there are eight Avs who have who will be playing in the Olympic Games on the unique ice arena they've built over there. But this break can't come soon enough. They've been playing. They're not their worst hockey, but it's just the most indifferent hockey of the year.

00;49;03;18 - 00;49;17;27

Woody Paige

I would like to, in my aspect of, of both the teams that one of them has 36 victories, which is number one, the National Hockey League. I know they go by points victories, but I still consider they're.

00;49;17;27 - 00;49;19;10

Tom Green

Still on top of all those piles.

00;49;19;10 - 00;49;43;26

Woody Paige

And the the nuggets are now fourth overall. I think San Antonio has passed them with the victory they had. So you have two teams that are in the running to be number one possible number one seeds. I don't think it's gonna happen with the nuggets. I think it's going to I think be able to come around when they get their injury problem.

00;49;43;29 - 00;50;15;22

Woody Paige

Major injury problem. They had a sickness last night or one of their best players. But it's good that they're following the trend of the Denver Broncos, not the trend we've seen from the baseball team here over a period of, what, 35 years or whatever. But Denver still a sports city. And it's amazing to me. Started covering the nuggets in a place that seeded 6000.

00;50;15;24 - 00;50;41;07

Woody Paige

And the original hockey team was playing in a place the Denver Coliseum. Right. The minor league teams that they're drawing 20,000, 19,000 every night. And it's longest streaks in the NFL. The streaks are long in both basketball and in hockey that I applaud the people of Denver, though, that they're really supporting those teams and they even support the Rockies.

00;50;41;07 - 00;50;58;20

Tom Green

They still I just I just happen to be looking at Super Bowl one. Some of the ticket stubs of ten bucks was the bucks. Yeah, 12 bucks if you wanted to really live it up. And then I was looking at the 1993, the first year of the Rockies. I have a flier I was taking pictures of, I think the top ticket price.

00;50;58;20 - 00;51;02;21

Tom Green

If you want to be right on the rail. 16 bucks to go to.

00;51;02;23 - 00;51;07;18

Ron Zappolo

Do you remember the first year of the Rockies? I don't know if you remember that you and I were together down.

00;51;07;18 - 00;51;08;12

Tom Green

Yeah, we were working.

00;51;08;12 - 00;51;20;17

Ron Zappolo

And the first Rocky who ever came out of the dugout in the first spring training was Brynn Smith. And and there was nobody to throw with. And Tom said, give me a glove off.

00;51;20;17 - 00;51;21;01

Tom Green

No, he.

00;51;21;05 - 00;51;36;00

Ron Zappolo

He or he asked me. Yeah. And everybody that does it. Brant Smith is warming up throwing to Tom. And I thought, that's perfect. I'm standing there watching it going this is great. Did you always dreamed of Major League Baseball? And this is what it is?

00;51;36;00 - 00;51;53;01

Woody Paige

Yeah, I bought two season tickets the first year. Yeah, seven rows behind home plate. And now I got some tickets from a guy gave me like, a dozen this past season. I left them in my car. I left to 12, and someone broke into my car. It left 12.

00;51;53;01 - 00;51;56;04

Tom Green

More.

00;51;56;07 - 00;51;59;12

Tom Green

Well, pitchers and catchers.

00;51;59;15 - 00;52;18;09

Woody Paige

That's any day now. Gosh. And they just flood a guy gets they're going to San Francisco. The Giants just scored, a first baseman that actually was supposed to be in the Rockies radar. If were going to sign somebody that was, you know, a, at least a well known.

00;52;18;09 - 00;52;25;08

Tom Green

They got TJ field in that deal from the Yankees. You mentioned, you have heard, have you? They he signed for a.

00;52;25;11 - 00;52;34;16

Ron Zappolo

Signed a one year deal for $15 million and that Reds. But I guess he was too expensive for Colorado.

00;52;34;19 - 00;52;35;22

Woody Paige

Or the Red Sox.

00;52;35;22 - 00;52;41;29

Ron Zappolo

Or the Red Sox. Well, the Red Sox are concentrating on defense. So they're they're narrative that they were.

00;52;41;29 - 00;52;44;27

Woody Paige

Allowed to go to starting rotation. But now they've.

00;52;44;27 - 00;52;52;16

Tom Green

Moved. But Suarez, you could have signed Suarez to pay for half of what you're paying Chris Bryant not to play third base.

00;52;52;16 - 00;52;58;11

Ron Zappolo

And and I'm how many home runs would Suarez hit in.

00;52;58;13 - 00;53;01;14

Tom Green

He'd hit 55. Hit 50 or.

00;53;01;14 - 00;53;04;29

Ron Zappolo

4849 last year in Arizona in Seattle what would he hit.

00;53;04;29 - 00;53;10;18

Woody Paige

And it wasn't like he was going to the Dodgers or the Yankees. Yes, he went with the census.

00;53;10;20 - 00;53;11;01

Tom Green

Don't you?

00;53;11;01 - 00;53;12;03

Ron Zappolo

Come on.

00;53;12;03 - 00;53;32;01

Tom Green

So here's the deal, April. The Rockies will start, but April is when we really start to hone in on where our hockey and basketball teams are. And I think that's the trick for a professional team, both hockey and basketball is staying dialed in, because these are those days. Like the nuggets are.

00;53;32;04 - 00;53;33;02

Ron Zappolo

Due to get.

00;53;33;05 - 00;53;38;13

Tom Green

A break. I think the the Avs need the Olympic break. You know, what they do to their team is going to go play.

00;53;38;13 - 00;53;57;06

Ron Zappolo

You know. But I think what he made a good point. And about how both teams could get top seeds I think in the NBA that's everything when you get a top seed. Yeah I think in the national Hockey League a top seed gets you nothing this year basically on and the Avs could be playing the Dallas Stars in the second round.

00;53;57;08 - 00;53;58;06

Ron Zappolo

That's ridiculous.

00;53;58;06 - 00;54;01;05

Tom Green

What are the nuggets at home. Are they 13 and ten at home.

00;54;01;05 - 00;54;02;09

Ron Zappolo

Not being good at home.

00;54;02;09 - 00;54;03;08

Tom Green

So I mean I don't.

00;54;03;08 - 00;54;06;19

Ron Zappolo

Know but and again I'm not making an excuse. But what are the nuggets.

00;54;06;22 - 00;54;07;24

Woody Paige

What are they on the road.

00;54;07;24 - 00;54;10;00

Tom Green

They have the best record in the league.

00;54;10;02 - 00;54;16;17

Woody Paige

It's a it's amazing. Yeah. It is amazing in basketball you'd you expect that kind of in the National Hockey League that.

00;54;16;17 - 00;54;17;03

Ron Zappolo

00;54;17;06 - 00;54;35;00

Woody Paige

Yeah. What does it mean that much. Particularly in the playoffs. But wouldn't it be something what I was trying to get to and take too much time because I'm old but number one seed in football, number one seed in basketball. Number one seed in in hockey. That would be an incredible unfortunately hog.

00;54;35;02 - 00;54;39;08

Tom Green

He's got that Presidents Trophy thing. Yeah. You get the Presidents trophy and they hand it to you as you.

00;54;39;08 - 00;54;42;12

Ron Zappolo

Leave the ice after losing game six somewhere.

00;54;42;14 - 00;54;48;00

Woody Paige

And the player who gets it from them drops it in the hallway and it breaks it.

00;54;48;03 - 00;55;00;26

Ron Zappolo

That's the thing about hockey, though. We've all loved it forever. You can you can analyze it all you want fairly. And then it comes down to which goaltender, yeah, is better.

00;55;00;26 - 00;55;02;17

Tom Green

And if you think of football bounce as well.

00;55;02;23 - 00;55;18;21

Woody Paige

Yeah. And we just saw that like you know in a game for a number one seed a couple of weeks ago that quarterbacks make the difference. And yeah we found one that didn't make the difference at all in the backup quarterback. Yeah. That where we are.

00;55;18;23 - 00;55;24;05

Tom Green

You look at a game like last night with the avalanche, though, because, their goaltending was terrific.

00;55;24;08 - 00;55;34;02

Ron Zappolo

Well, there was, but which which would. Yeah, should be the starter in the playoffs or should both. Woods, share that role going into the games when they really count?

00;55;34;02 - 00;55;39;03

Tom Green

That'll be a decision sorted out with the play of the goalies and the team in March and April.

00;55;39;03 - 00;55;42;12

Woody Paige

And I'd like to turn over my nickname of Woodman to both those.

00;55;42;13 - 00;55;44;00

Tom Green

Devils, Mackenzie and Scott.

00;55;44;00 - 00;55;46;12

Ron Zappolo

Love. And how we get to woods in goal.

00;55;46;14 - 00;55;59;28

Tom Green

Hey, real quick for our listeners, if you're not watching, we have the chalkboard behind Woody. I always like to remind people, and if would if you could lean to your right a little bit. Good will hunting is me shopping for clothes. There you go.

00;56;00;03 - 00;56;01;00

Woody Paige

Do you ever go to goodwill?

00;56;01;00 - 00;56;01;15

Tom Green

Oh, yeah.

00;56;01;15 - 00;56;02;07

Ron Zappolo

Yeah, I love it.

00;56;02;09 - 00;56;19;04

Tom Green

I actually I have a great quick story to tell. I went, to Scotland, play golf with some buddies, and they said, we want to go and we want to at Prestwick they have this lunch, but you got to wear a jacket and I'm going, man, I'm packing for five days. I don't want to bring a jacket. And they said, no, we're going, we're going, we're going.

00;56;19;12 - 00;56;22;18

Tom Green

So I go to goodwill and I bought a really nice jacket for $4.

00;56;22;19 - 00;56;23;13

Ron Zappolo

I hope we still have it.

00;56;23;13 - 00;56;27;00

Tom Green

I know I left it in Scotland, I didn't need it after that. I just wore it to this.

00;56;27;05 - 00;56;30;24

Natasha

What would you to play golf in Scotland? And if the people you know.

00;56;30;28 - 00;56;37;06

Ron Zappolo

Well I just, you know he go he pays for a trip to Scotland to play golf and expense for bucks.

00;56;37;08 - 00;56;40;07

Tom Green

So my job I like my jackets.

00;56;40;08 - 00;56;41;03

Ron Zappolo

This help was would.

00;56;41;03 - 00;56;42;02

Woody Paige

You, would you take.

00;56;42;04 - 00;56;42;16

Ron Zappolo

I bet it.

00;56;42;16 - 00;56;48;05

Woody Paige

Was. Would you take one of your best friends to goodwill and give me a new trench coat?

00;56;48;07 - 00;56;49;05

Tom Green

I do something.

00;56;49;07 - 00;57;04;10

Ron Zappolo

I own, I own, but you know what? That's a good point. My wife lives at goodwill. I'm going to go home today and say, hon, next time you go, I. Oh, Woody, a trench coat. Would you find a good fight with interest? Trench coat. And I'll give it to him. Good point.

00;57;04;17 - 00;57;14;09

Tom Green

Well, we're looking forward to the Super Bowl. We appreciate you taking the time as always, to join us here on After the Horn. Woody's going to San Francisco. He'll be reporting from there starting tomorrow.

00;57;14;10 - 00;57;19;02

Woody Paige

Tomorrow? Tomorrow. Shelby, Horace and I will be. You won't be the dancing Harris's.

00;57;19;02 - 00;57;20;15

Tom Green

No. You're going to be Harris.

00;57;20;16 - 00;57;32;29

Ron Zappolo

You still be. Do you still cover it the way we used to cover it? Will you still be doing all the things? Going to all the news conferences, going to a few parties? What's your game plan for this?

00;57;32;29 - 00;57;35;09

Woody Paige

I think you get that backward.

00;57;35;11 - 00;57;35;17

Tom Green

I'll.

00;57;35;17 - 00;57;37;18

Woody Paige

Be going to most of the parties trying.

00;57;37;18 - 00;57;39;02

Tom Green

To fit in, trying to fit in an.

00;57;39;02 - 00;57;44;04

Woody Paige

Interview. I'm going to the media party tonight, which is in a place called Redwood City.

00;57;44;12 - 00;57;46;00

Ron Zappolo

They still have the media party.

00;57;46;00 - 00;57;47;14

Woody Paige

Yeah, on Tuesday night.

00;57;47;17 - 00;57;49;23

Ron Zappolo

How many people will be there?

00;57;49;25 - 00;58;06;16

Woody Paige

Well, I don't know what's going on in San Francisco. The people are not showing up. Usually about a thousand. Yeah, yeah, because they they count people in the media, you know, the like, squirrels.

00;58;06;18 - 00;58;10;28

Ron Zappolo

How many, how many, accredited media members cover this game? Now.

00;58;11;00 - 00;58;19;04

Woody Paige

They have said over the last 3 or 4 years, it's been about 6000. So, you know, that doesn't make it really. I told him, though.

00;58;19;09 - 00;58;20;20

Tom Green

Because that's what it takes to.

00;58;20;22 - 00;58;21;14

Ron Zappolo

Come. Yeah.

00;58;21;19 - 00;58;33;05

Woody Paige

I'll even go on my favorite all time quote. I told him in the car that when Washington played, I think the Rams, they ask, one of the great, the hogs. Hogs.

00;58;33;05 - 00;58;34;11

Ron Zappolo

The hogs. Yeah.

00;58;34;13 - 00;58;56;17

Woody Paige

What does this game mean to you? And he said, this game is so important to me. I would run over my mother to win the Super Bowl. I knew it. Wow. That's. It's really something. So they're talking to the defensive lineman who lines up against him and they for the other team. And they said, what is the Super Bowl means to you Russ Francis I think it's Russ Graham.

00;58;56;17 - 00;59;03;21

Woody Paige

Maybe Ross Graham said he would run over his mother to win the Super Bowl. He said, well, I agree with him. I would run.

00;59;03;21 - 00;59;05;29

Ron Zappolo

Over some.

00;59;06;01 - 00;59;06;18

Tom Green

Tough stuff.

00;59;06;23 - 00;59;08;10

Ron Zappolo

We can have one more question.

00;59;08;10 - 00;59;09;04

Tom Green

Yeah.

00;59;09;07 - 00;59;20;02

Ron Zappolo

This is important. Are you in the press box? Are you in the auxillary press box or are you somewhere else?

00;59;20;05 - 00;59;23;22

Woody Paige

I become over the last 3 or 4 years. I'm an ox.

00;59;23;22 - 00;59;27;13

Ron Zappolo

All those guys. Because the ox could be.

00;59;27;15 - 00;59;29;13

Tom Green

In the corners.

00;59;29;15 - 00;59;31;09

Ron Zappolo

Up in the foul pole area.

00;59;31;12 - 00;59;39;07

Woody Paige

No, but, you know, you're not on the real list if you're in a tent outside the stadium and they put a lot of press people.

00;59;39;07 - 00;59;52;12

Ron Zappolo

This is all inside baseball. But we've all been through the, you know, the old stadium, and we would cover the Broncos and then the league would come in and say, yeah, you guys come and we need the we need the press.

00;59;52;15 - 00;59;53;00

Tom Green

Or the.

00;59;53;03 - 00;59;58;29

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. Could you share a seat with Paul Zimmerman or would you guys go down in the south stands there. We'll get you.

00;59;59;03 - 01;00;05;07

Woody Paige

And I went from being in seat number one at the old Mile-high Stadium. First row seat.

01;00;05;07 - 01;00;07;13

Ron Zappolo

One is second row, seat one right.

01;00;07;13 - 01;00;26;25

Woody Paige

Behind you. All right. And so then I become a general columnist for a few years, and I want to go to the Super Bowl. And our favorite Jim, our favorite PR guy, Zarco gives me it says, playoff game ticket, no seat. I work from seat one.

01;00;26;27 - 01;00;28;03

Tom Green

I stand you.

01;00;28;06 - 01;00;40;00

Woody Paige

No safe seat. You know what? Really? That's how how quickly they fall. So where am I going to be? I'm probably going to be in San Jose. Do you know the way to say an airplane? Yeah.

01;00;40;02 - 01;00;47;01

Ron Zappolo

They learned a lot of things you could do and cover that game remotely and maybe have more fun watching on TV than.

01;00;47;01 - 01;00;48;01

Tom Green

Than being in the market.

01;00;48;01 - 01;00;49;22

Ron Zappolo

Yeah. Yeah.

01;00;49;25 - 01;01;05;11

Tom Green

Well, we'll see where Woody's covering the Super Bowl from again. Super Bowl 60 this weekend. That's it for our Super Bowl edition. Next week I think is our Post-super Bowl edition. Yeah. Of After the Horn. But, thanks, as always for joining us. You can always reach us.

01;01;05;12 - 01;01;07;26

Woody Paige

To be, trade deadlines and.

01;01;07;26 - 01;01;10;11

Tom Green

Then. Oh, yeah, let's talk about. Right. Yeah.

01;01;10;14 - 01;01;17;01

Ron Zappolo

We'll have when we have Giannis Antetokounmpo is a Denver nugget. We'll have a lot to talk. And John they got him a job.

01;01;17;02 - 01;01;22;10

Woody Paige

That's all they need is one more injured player that's out for 6 or 8 other headaches.

01;01;22;12 - 01;01;28;14

Tom Green

You can always reach us at at gorilla Sportsnet. Thanks for joining us. We'll see you back here again next week.
